Title: PentiumMMX's Pokémon Crystal Challenge Run: The Topic
Post by: Nichi on June 19, 2011, 07:34:47 PM
After bringing up that I was doing this over in the Topicless thread, I figured I'd make a topic here to talk about my progress on my challenge run through Pokémon Crystal for anyone who might interested.
Also, this keeps Topicless from being taken over by teh Pokémons

Ruleset wise, this isn't too different from what I did in late '09 with the Pikachu-only run through Yellow; the major difference being that, instead of starting with a Surfing Pikachu, I just have a plain Wooper. As for the names of the main cast, the trainer is a girl named Yendor (In reference to my Green Mage from Disgaea), her Wooper is named Emmy (I just came up with a random girl's name off the top of my head, since the Wooper is female), and her rival is named Wang (Seeing as I used Khan last time I did a run like this, I once again pulled a name out of a hat and ran with it).

Anyway, the game officially began today, with Yendor checking stuff on her "PC" (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00002.jpg) (Which looks more like a Macintosh Classic II (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/567px-Macintosh_Classic_2.jpg) to me). Shortly after heading downstairs and receiving her Pokégear, she checks the oven to find that Mom was cooking her specialty; Cinnabar Volcano Burgers (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00001.jpg), which are likely so hot that one needs to sign a waver before they're allowed to eat them.

After some banter from Prof. Elm, Yendor finally got to pick her Pokémon; a Wooper, which was misidentified as Totodile. Also, just because, she remarks about how good her reflection looks (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00003.jpg) before setting out...only for the journey to Mr. Pokémon's house to be interrupted by the first wild encounter of the game (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00004.jpg); which thankfully wasn't shiny, or else I'd be pissed off because I don't have any Pokéballs yet.

Speaking of Pokéballs, an old man gave Yendor a tour of the town...and made sure to mention that that the store sells Balls (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00005.jpg). I know what he means, but you can't help but find it a bit uncomfortable when taken out of context. After arriving at Mr. Pokémon's house and getting more banter and a free Pokédex, I was faced with what amounted to a mini-boss: the damned Hoppip that wouldn't die easily (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00007.jpg). It couldn't fight back at all, while my only attack move barely did any damage to it; making this fight a lot longer than it needed to be...and the first battle against Wang and his Chikorita was worse, since his Pokémon was capable of fighting back.

Still, I made it through both battles just fine; as, now with all that pregame stuff out of the way, I can officially begin my journey to collect the Gym Badges and head to the League.

I'll post again when more happens. Until then, any questions and feedback is appreciated

I'm making my own thread instead of hijacking this thing, but inspired me it did.
GYM LEADER RUN TIME.

And good luck with that Wooper run. You'll be having living hell with it until he hits Quagsire .w.;

That's why I decided to go with a Wooper; since the Pikachu I used in my Yellow challenge run was too much of a powerhouse even early into the game (By the end, the damn thing could punch out Cthulhu with no negative consequences).

Also, which Pokémon game are you going to do a run on?
Title: Re: PentiumMMX's Pokémon Crystal Challenge Run: The Topic

Dunno, really, but it has to be something decently challenging for my tastes; and it's likely going to be one of the DS (or at least GBA) games, since otherwise choices would be VERY limited for certain types. I mean, Gen 1 with ice? Jynx, Dewgong, Lapras and Cloyster, all you get. Gen 2 with Ghost? Haunters and Misdreavuses and NOTHING ELSE. And let's not even start about fucking Dragons, because anyone doing a type run with Dragons is a fucking retard, in one way or another.

Also, an all Psychic run on Gen 1 would be way too easy, since Psychics are overpowered on that version

Yeah. Besides, not having Dark/Steel just feels wrooong.

Anyway - I think I'll be rolling with one of the Gen2 remakes (SS/HG), since they're fucking rad. Dunno which one.

Go with SoulSilver. It has the cooler name
Also, I own it. I actually was the first person in line at the local Gamestop on release day to pick it up, because I wanted my damn Lugia figurine

Anyway, I'll likely play more here in a few minutes I just finished playing for the night. Here's a rundown of what happened, with more pictures:

Departing from New Bark Town once more, Yendor obliterated Youngster Joey and his prized Rattate twice. Of course, I exchanged phone numbers with him for the lulz, even if this is what most conversations with him amount to (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00010.jpg), with a little bit of this on the side (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00008.jpg). After that, mere feet from the end of the grassy field and the gates to Violet City, I found myself completely screwed as a Bellsprout from Hell nearly finished off Emmy while she was defenseless (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00009.jpg). However, that isn't the one that got me; the one that did was in Sprout Tower, which speaking of Pokémon getting knocked out, why do I always black out, or in this case white out (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/bgb00015.jpg), when I have no more Pokémon left, but nobody else does?

After that, I just wondered around town for a while; seeing a guy talk about a wiggly tree outside of town that squirms when you touch it (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00018.jpg) (I know he's talking about Sudowoodo, but it still sounds wrong...), a teacher who speaks in Engrish ask if I want to be a winner (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00020.jpg) (He provide the strong funny promptly), and a little girl who named her Pidgey "Strawberry" (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00016.jpg) (Well, it's good to know I'm not the only person with a strange naming system...)

Tomorrow, I think I'll explore the Ruins of Alph before I attempt the gym, let alone venture back into Sprout Tower

Yeah, but I couldn't resist with a detail like that. That's part of the fun of the boards on GameFAQs; when somebody is trolling, point out little things like that in what they say and watch as it all unravels.

Anyway, I played some more tonight, so it's time once more for a recap with links to pics:

After resting at the Pokémon Center overnight, Emmy and I returned on our quest; going to the Ruins of Alph and into the first cave we saw, finding a message on the wall telling us to escape (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00021.jpg) (Which we obviously ignore) as well as a stone puzzle (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00022.jpg) that felt like something out of Ancient Empires (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/ancientempires.jpg) (To be honest, it was easy to solve), which opened up a trap door (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00023.jpg) upon solving it.

Down in the caves, I found the alphabet monsters of doom Unown (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00024.jpg) awaiting me. They where easy to defeat...until I got a little too cocky, as one got in a critical hit at the start of the battle; taking out Emmy, with a flawless victory on top of it (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00025.jpg). Yeah, time to black out again...

After more training, I decided to finally go to the gym and take on Falkner (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00026.jpg); who opened up the battle with a laughable level 7 Pidgey (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00027.jpg), which was much weaker than the level 9 Spearow one of the people training under him had. However, after taking that weak foe out (Leveling up in the process and learning a new attack), Falkner made up for it with a Pidgeotto of questionable legitimacy (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00028.jpg); which packed a punch for something that is at a unnaturally low level. However, I came out on top in the end (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00029.jpg), after using a Potion and a Berry to keep going.

Now with the Zephyr Badge in hand, I return to the Pokémon Center; which, while I'm there, Elm's assistant gave me a Pokémon Egg (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00030.jpg), which I believe contains a Togipi. I used to make fun of them...until I played Platinum back in summer '09, when Cynthia's Togekiss (The fully evolved form) totally obliterated my team including the cosmic horror that is Giratina (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/Giratina_Origin_English_Pt.png) (Yes, the fucking evolved form of Togepi took down a legendary with little effort).

With that done, I take a break for the night.

ho shit, togepi wins. -w- why do you think the most badass character in pokemon, misty, had one? :3

i'm thinking of looking up some of the early pokemon in crystal and yellow, to attempt a semi-challenge at nej's thread. :\

Do it!

Anyway, I played a little bit more tonight; which, aside from conquering Sprout Tower with a Pokémon that was at a major type disadvantage (Which I was defeated a few times, but kept coming back and returning the favor), the most noteworthy thing was how Joey kept calling to challenge Emmy, who is a level 14 Wooper, to a battle against his level 4 Rattata (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00031.jpg). Each battle ended about how you'd expect; considering the gigantic level gap (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00032.jpg). Now, Emmy and I prepare to head south; toward wherever the road takes us.

wooper's cry is so cute. ^^

and i feel bad for joey. he looks so determined, that i'd imagine that he'd be upset when he gets defeated. :\

After being a bit tied up, I finally got around to playing more last night.

My journey to Azalea Town was kind of boring, as Emmy is steamrolling everything that comes her way. I'll let this Camper sum up what the journey south was like for me (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00035.jpg).

However, I did learn that even in the world of Pokémon, some people are too busy talking on their cell phones to care about anything else (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00033.jpg). Also, Emmy fought off a male Wooper that was likely trying to hit on her (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00036.jpg); not realizing that he really needs to be a lot stronger if he wants to impress her.

Then, there's the creepy guy selling a SlowpokeTail for one million dollars (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00037.jpg). I remember when I first got to this part of the game ages ago, I found what that guy was selling to be a bit unsettling...

I made it through the cave without many problems; as the egg I was given earlierhatched into a Togepi (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00041.jpg)...which I then stored away in the PC because this is a Wooper-only run. However, it'll become useful later on as an HM slave. You know, maybe I should do a Togepi-only run on one of the other games after I finish this...
Title: Re: PentiumMMX's Pokémon Crystal Challenge Run: The Topic
Post by: Chocofreak13 on June 25, 2011, 12:41:26 AM
togepi-only would likely be badass, especially in the later games (as it would have 3 evolutions instead of 2).
OMG! DOUBLE WOOPERS!! WHAT DOES IT MEAN!!???
and every time i walked past that slowpoketail guy i always thought that he looked a little pudgy. :\

also, after looking it up, it seems that i can attempt both a psychic AND water run, provided that i have 2 working copies of the game (and one has to be ruby, sapphire, or emerald). if not, ik i at least have 1 working copy of Gen. 3 and ik my sister has a copy of emerald lying around. ^^

Yep; it's update time again:

We begin with a Rocket Grunt proving that even evil has standards (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00042.jpg); as he "guards the well" to keep people from falling in. However, he did eventually let me through; as those damn Zubats kept coming out of nowhere (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00046.jpg) while I made my way around kicking Team Rocket ass and chewing bubblegum. However, Emmy evolved (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00043.jpg) into a Quagsire (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00044.jpg); which made up for it.

After that, I went to the gym to do battle with Bugsy (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00048.jpg); who I though was a girl when I first played this game. It was an epic battle; with Metapod using Harden (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00049.jpg), Kakuna doing the same (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00050.jpg), and Scyther being it's usual badass self (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00051.jpg). Scyther gave me a run for my money, although I pulled through in the end and obtained the Hive Badge (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00053.jpg) for my efforts.

With Team Rocket now in the picture, things are going to get a little more exciting...

wait.....your trainer is named yendor....? .___.;

also, if there's one thing team rocket can do, it's fake it. -w-

Yeah. To quote the first post:

Quote from: PentiumMMX on June 19, 2011, 07:34:47 PM
...the trainer is a girl named Yendor (In reference to my Green Mage from Disgaea)

When creating a Green Mage on Disgaea 2, I went with spelling my first name backwards for her name; referring to that character as the "alternate universe distaff counterpart" of my Red Skull (Who is named Rodney). The two ended up trading elements in Disgaea 3; making things a little confusing.

Anyway, I'll probably play some more later tonight

ahhhhh, ok. forgot. ^^;

good luck, dude. considering starting my psychic run, once i get things a bit more settled on the water run. (also, is there a code to have eevee or espeon be the starter in crystal?)

In case anybody is interested, I got the code I used from this guide (http://www.gamefaqs.com/gbc/375087-pokemon-crystal-version/faqs/13441). Now you too can change what Pokémon you start with on Crystal.

Anyway, here's a rundown of what things where like tonight:

It all began with a battle against my rival (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00054.jpg)...and his demonic Bayleaf (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00055.jpg). I had to do this battle several times over because it kept kicking my ass, but then I finally pulled a narrow victory (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00056.jpg). That felt good; as Wang tried to make himself feel better by talking about how how much he hates the weak (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00057.jpg). After which, I carry on and help a guy catch his Farfetch'd, so he'll give the Cut HM (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00058.jpg)

After some random battles with some generic trainers, I made it to the gym, and hello nurse! (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00059.jpg) It'd be awesome if this battle lead into hot yuri, but seeing as this is an E-rated game, that obviously won't happen; much to the disappointment of me and several other people on this site. Also, I fight a suspected trap (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00060.jpg) before doing battle with the gym leader, Whitney (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00061.jpg). The battle was too easy compared to the past two gyms; I made her cry (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00063.jpg). Once she recovered from the shock of being beaten so effortlessly, she gave me the Plain Badge (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00064.jpg); putting me at 3 badges so far.

Also, the guy at the entrance is busy checking out the ladies (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00065.jpg). Of course, who can blame him?

and DAMN, that WAS a narrow victory! *0*

i'll begin my recaps in the other thread. :3

Lol'd HEARTILY at the Suspected Trap. Gjbro.
And I can definitely sympathize with you having to battle your rival with a 4x weakness uphill...while my Glaceon is only 2x weak to fire, Snover is Ice/Grass, giving him 4x weakness to it...fuck, am I glad I have a Shellder now.

@Nejin: I knew somebody would get a kick out of that joke

Anyway, here's a rundown of how things went tonight:

After beating the gym, I went to obtain a bike before setting out to do battle with a guy who wants to show off (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00066.jpg). Not long after, I engage in a battle with a juggler who has one of the the best pre-battle quotes I've seen (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00069.jpg) since this one from Blue (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/23509_362759753908_362724968908_3491658_24010_s.jpg). There was also a schoolboy who spoke very technically (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00071.jpg); making me think that he's part Vulcan.

However, the most noteworthy random trainer tonight was a Lass, whom I suspect is a gender-flipped version of Kriz (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00070.jpg), based on her name. Of course, there's a chance that she's his future daughter.

Anyway, I did battle with a a Sudowoodo (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00072.jpg), which I successfully captured and gave it a nickname I though was funny (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00073.jpg).
Title: Re: PentiumMMX's Pokémon Crystal Challenge Run: The Topic

the funny thing is, that's a lie since sudowoodo is technically not made of wood. on the upside, he's rock hard :3

Still, you have to love it when the game says "IHaveWood used Strength!"
If I actually fought with it, I'd make sure it knows how to Harden

Anyway, here's a rundown of the past 2 nights, since I neglected to update last night due to a lack of significant progress:

My journey last night began with a run-in with Bill (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00074.jpg); who finished working on a time machine. Although, since it only allows me to trade with people in the past instead of exploring through time and space, I'll probably never use it. After that, I went over to do battle with the Kimono Girls (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00075.jpg); each one fighting with a different evolution of Eevee. They put up a decent fight, as I decided it was high time to take on the gym.

However, an old man wouldn't let me in because the leader is absent (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00076.jpg), so I decided to go over to the Burned Tower. I had a run-in with none other than Wang (//http://), which lead into a battle; complete with Haunter committing suicide (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00079.jpg) and the return of the demon Bayleaf (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00081.jpg), and Wang calling me a wimp right after having has ass handed to him (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00083.jpg). After the battle, a hole in the floor opened; as I fell down into a chamber where the legendary dogs cats gerbils slept (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00085.jpg).

After they took off running, along with some other unimportant stuff, I was finally able to go to the gym and do battle with Morty (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00086.jpg), who fights with ghost Pokémon. Emmy only had minimal problems, because Mud-Slap = Instant Win (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00087.jpg); which lead to a fairly easy victory and the Fog Badge (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00088.jpg) being added to my collection. I just need 4 more before I go to the league...

After that, I head southwest toward Olivine. Along the way, this guy states the obvious (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00089.jpg) (Thanks; I couldn't have figured that out on my own) and this lady promotes milk (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00090.jpg).

I then arrive in town, only to find the gym leader here is away at the lighthouse; which I proceed to climb up...but not before looking at my reflection on the window to make sure that I'm still lookin' good (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00091.jpg). Atop the tower, I find her waiting...but she won't battle yet; I first have to fetch medicine for this sick Pokémon (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00092.jpg), which means a trip across the sea.

But first, I need to find the Surf HM...
EDIT: All right, it turns out I already have it. Tomorrow night, I sail away

It's been a while since I last played, but at last, it's time for an update:

Not long after moving the run to Asagi, since 2k isn't setup right now (Also, it's too damn hot to use something that generates as much heat as her), I sailed away; as Emmy turned into a Lapras when I used Surf (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00093.png), which does seem a bit odd when you stop and think about it.

While out at sea, I saw Tentacruel. Lots and lots of Tentacruel (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00094.png). I did try to capture one, to handle the other water-type HMs later in the game (To avoid clogging up Emmy's moveset with too many attacks of the same type), but I didn't have any Pokéballs on me. Thankfully, it wasn't shiny, or else I'd be pissed off; seeing as I've never seen a shiny Pokémon outside of the scripted ones like the Red Gyarados...although my team on Platinum caught the Pokérus while out training (Which the odds of that are even slimmer), so I guess it does balance out a bit.

There was also a girl with a name similar to Choco (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00095.png); just a single letter difference. Perhaps Johto exists in an alternate universe, where several OSCers happen to be Pokémon trainers with slightly different names, and in a few cases, are gender-flipped?

Once I reached land, I caught a glimpse of Suicune (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00097.png), before Eusine challenged me to a battle (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00099.png). However, Eusine isn't an ordinary man, he's a Mysitcalman (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00100.png); which makes me think of a song by Heart...

After that quick battle, it's time to hit the gym; as my Sudowoodo showed off it's moves by pushing a boulder (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00102.png), before I engaged the gym's leader, Chuck (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00103.png) in battle...which was much easier than I expected, but it wasn't completely pointless since I was given the Storm Badge (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00104.png). Right after that, I went back across the sea and delivered the medicine to complete that sidequest, allowing me to finally engage in battle with Jasmine (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00106.png); who actually put up a semi-decent fight with her Steelix (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00106.png), but I still came out on top and earned the Mineral Badge (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/bgb00108.png).

I have 2 badges left until I head to the League, reaching the half-way point of the run. Later tonight, I'll continue on my journey to the top

WISE FROM YOUR GWAVE

Since the Nuzlocke run has me on a Pokémon kick once again, plus I still have my save file for this challenge run, I figured it was about time to finally finish this Wooper Quagsire-only challenge run of Pokémon Crystal. I'll report back later with any changes

Well, here's the latest progress. I left off at Olivine, after defeating Jasmine, and now I finally follow in the footsteps of Paul, Nick, and Josh and continue the adventure.

...and I will be surprised if anybody actually gets the joke ^^;;

Anyway, the trek went smoothly; as I fought a Fisherman who had a Quilfish. This reminded me of Kari joking about wanting to catch one to go with a Hoothoot named Hootie xD
(http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/vsquilfish.png)

Once I arrived in Mahogany Town, I promply purchased a RAGECANDYBAR. I always liked the name, so I had to buy one xD
(http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x283/The_Real_PentiumMMX/Pokemon%20Crystal%20Challenge%20Run/ragecandybar.png)

Now, resting at the Pokémon Center, I prepare to make the trek north to the Lake of Rage; where apparently Team Rocket is preparing to cause trouble. However, apparently the Men in Black are there to cover the whole thing up.

What will happen next time? Stay tuned; same Poké-time, same Poké-channel
