Title: Claudia Madobe - Nanami's got family!
Post by: Kiso on June 09, 2011, 04:25:12 PM
Okay, so I was avoiding going to Wakachan's board for quite a while due to some megatroll posting CP on the boards and no one was modding the threads, but today I come and find this:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/ja-jp/windowsazure/claudia/

So her name is Claudia Madobe, and apparently, she's Nanami's cousin. No only that there is another guy in there called Claude Madobe (http://msdn.microsoft.com/ja-jp/windowsazure/claudia00_01).

Seems like Microsoft Japan went full force with these Madobe mascot characters... seeing as this is posted in their MSDN site. Next they'll meet the Silverlight family and the Bing girls and somehow we'll end up having a MUGEN game over all this. (/Seriously lame joke.)

Damn... fail... sorry. ^^;

I guess I need to lrn2srch then... although I did look in the first few pages of the forum for a possible thread specific to her. So I guess double fail... for not making sure it wasn't posted already. I guess I got a bit too excited with the news of Vocaloid v3 set for release and the future Append for Luka. Still, I am now trying to find a translated version of their promo manga.

yeah, once that comes around it'd be nice to have it in the gallery.

it also makes me wonder that now that microsoft's making characters for their programs, maybe the next OS will have an official -tan?

Title: Re: Claudia Madobe - Nanami's got family!
Post by: Kiso on June 10, 2011, 06:01:38 AM
Why not have the Japanese one in the gallery while were at it? Also do these guys deserve articles on the Wiki?

As for an official Mascot... I don't think the top execs would even approve such thing... a mascot. They did have Clippy, but that was a help guide... and a useless one at that. If I had control of MSFT, I would have already held several contests to have a mascot and have the winners featured as themes for their respective OSes. Heck, I think they should make VNs or "educational games" using dem mascots.

Seeing as Nanami features alongside Claudia et al (as does Toshiaki btw), she sure seems to be now.

The OS-tan fandom isn't going to die because of the 'official' mascots. Futaba barely acknowledges Nanami, for example.
Title: Re: Claudia Madobe - Nanami's got family!
Post by: NejinOniwa on June 10, 2011, 01:56:14 PM
Indeed. And I fair reckon MS isn't anywhere remotely close to bringing those anywhere close to our quarters...
Title: Re: Claudia Madobe - Nanami's got family!
Post by: Kiso on June 10, 2011, 04:30:27 PM
It's interesting, really. Futaba doesn't really give a damn about anything outside of their boards. It's as if there is nothing outside of their "perfect" little world. That's in huge contrast with Pixiv and the rest of the world that seems to not mind Nanami at all.

Buut... when did this become a matter of OS-tan fandom dying because there are some "official" mascots now? I mean, why would it die out because of it instead of simply gaining more widespread recognition?
Title: Re: Claudia Madobe - Nanami's got family!
Post by: Alex_Reetz on June 10, 2011, 05:39:33 PM
I was pissed when nanami came it. i saw it as an attack to the pure fandom that makes os-tans fun. when i found it is was just a cheap anime hook to get weeaboos, i loled. i actually love the futaba os-tans, but they are a bit perfectionist and racist when it comes to outsider's views.

Final Thoughts:
*Microsoft isnt taking the os-tan franchise seriously enough to be a threat.
*Fubata is in there own little world.
*I am the same way.

i like nanami. :3 (her design is less creepy than that futaba 7-tan with the red glasses and the grey hair. >>; ) however, i like some of the other mascots, too. (the schoolgirl with the white hair, for example, is pretty. :3) but nanami has the added bonus of having a themepack and commercial. >:3

the only thing that worries me is the "official" mascots might get all the art, and then there'll only be the futaba mascots and the "official" mascots. :\

EDIT: as it stands, i'm already expecting windows 8 to be a bit of a slut....(since she's purely touchscreen-based). >>;

I like her design because it has more of a professional look to it when Nanami's is more of a excited school girl design.

Title: Re: Claudia Madobe - Nanami's got family!
Post by: Kiso on June 11, 2011, 02:35:46 AM
Because he was replying to you... albeit out of context.

In my case though, I'm thinking of an 8-tan that would be more of a hipster (since windows is attempting at all costs to be different than anything currently available), using clothing with lots of basic shapes and references to the metro interface. In fact, I had made several sketches of what could that be, but I deleted most of them since I really didn't know much about the OS to even begin setting real references. Then again, most OS-tans have no real references other than the version (3.1, ME, 2k, XP) or a really abstract in-joke (the screws on Vistake).

I guess I'll draw some more and eventually give up and delete them today as well.

now i'm picturing a mod girl. but that sounds too cool to be windows 8. ><;

i get the feeling that she might be a hipster, but not with the attitude, since windows 8 is supposed to be near-idiot-proof. :\
however, she'd probably keep the "i'm different but i still fit in" mentality of hipsters. ><;;

Lol, reminds me of a friend who is trying hard to be a hipster but still wants to "fit in"!

On another note, I'm doing some sketches so I'll post them in the art thread (Free Cookies! I think its called...)

also, I was reading the web comic with my OK translating skills and figured out that Claudia is Nanami's cousin this was then confirmed by a translation done on Danbooru

The first comic is all in that Poll but the newest one hasn't been added yet...

lol

Anyhow, what you say about 8 being a hipster and still fitting in... I wouldn't be surprised of a Madobe of such qualities. It has been mentioned that Windows would indded be connected and would have social integration. MS wants Xbox Live in Windows 8 apparently, and I'm sure FB, Twitter and the other social networks will be added as well to keep users connected as much as possible. And then there's Skype's possible integration too...

Well, that's part of of how minimalist design (the philosophy behind Metro UI) works to begin with. It's so stupid simple that even an idiot should be able to get it right from the get-go. Too bad it doesn't always turn out that way... since there is always someone not willing to try doing things on their own when it come to technology. Something about being intimidated by new devices and shit.

Indeed it is, but when you change the way things are done, those that are accustomed to it feel like they need to learn again. This happens mostly with the more aged of people. They naturally resist change... but that's a matter for another topic, I guess.

Really? Its pretty much any other version of windows just with a new GUI and a few new apps... oh well, everyone is different!

finished a sketch out of Claudia today but I need to ink it or at least make it darker due to the scanner not being able to pick up on the light pencil marks (used a 2H pencil, really really light).

Only problem I ever have with Windows 7 is the activation stuff, I want to be up-to-date yet don't want to pay microsoft the retarded amount of $200 for an OS that should be $100 (If Apple is selling Mac OSX 10.9 "Lion" for only $30 then I should be able to get Windows 7 for $100 easy! I'm talking professional, none of this Home Premium crap...)

The updates are one thing, programs are another problem as well! Most companies are putting Windows Activation code into their software which then starts the Activation process, I'm probably going to re-install Win7 again and not install many programs other than Adobe, sai, Steam, and a few others.

My hope is that Windows 8 will be cheap due to its dumbed down design but I bet Microsoft still tries to pull a fast one to sell it at $200 -_-;;;;;

It's totally OT, but...I've always wondered... why IS OSX so low-priced compared to Windows?
Title: Re: Claudia Madobe - Nanami's got family!
Post by: Aurora Borealis on June 12, 2011, 11:56:27 AM
But each version of OSX doesn't last that long compared to Windows. It's still easy to find current programs that run on XP (2001), but now it's hard to find those that can run on OSX Tiger (2005), or even Leopard (2007). It's one of the downsides to OSX. Each version gets phased out too quickly. As much as I like Macs, I know this is a drawback I need to put up with. :(

windows 8 won't be cheap. it's not like Steve Ballmer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGvHNNOLnCk) is gonna sell it.

@kraus: what programs are you having trouble with? 9 times out of 10 there's a freeware alternative that works just as well. :\

Sadly, its impossible for me to tell because even if I look that the program's code, figuring out if it has the activation code within it is isn't possible with out that code in hand and I don't think Microsoft is willing to hand over the code ._.;

Post by: Kiso on June 13, 2011, 06:08:48 AM
Hmm interesting bits I read here, and I say, I do have a few replies to make in relation to those things. So here goes...

1. Claudia and Claude
Choco, even I like that... it's like the people that did this are actually paying attention to how the OS-tan phenomenon works. Maybe... MAYBE... maybe Nejin was right, and there is indeed someone working at MS that is also a 2channer.

2. Windows 8 designs
I guess I wasn't the only one that was interesting in designing what their own "Hachiko". I guess, if you do feel like showing them I might go see them. Not sure if I would show you what I made though, I like to think there is someone out there that might have the same idea of her as I do.

3. OS and Economics - Windows Cost v Mac OSX Cost
- - - | Time between releases - OSX has a new release every year while Windows is released every two or three years (XP being the exception, and for obvious reasons)
- - - | Development costs - Windows is closed source and everything has to be developed and maintained in house. Mac has open source parts that can offset the cost to the company when they develop things.
- - - | Business model - Apple primarily sells hardware and makes their super profits from that, and even that helps offset their development costs. MS doesn't really have a hardware business outside of KB/Mouse Xbox and Kinect, and a great amount of their profits depend on software sales, mainly Windows.
- - - | Shareholders - both companies need to keep investors happpy, and thus need to constantly keep making more money than the previous year, either by increasing their market share (Windows is already too big to increase significantly) or through other means. By creating different versions targeted at different demographics they can further increase their income. With that, at least the home users won't need to be charged huge amounts of money for things that they might not need/use.

They do sell OEM versions of their OS at a cheaper price though, and they are known for selling multiple licenses at a cheaper price (like the $150 3-license family pack).

Makes me wonder why MS doesn't just buy a couple of those OEMs they so praise and turns into a hardware company.

Did I ever mentioned that I really like that American Madobe? I really do!

Oh, btw, when I was sketching an 8-tan I actually had the idea of using the kind of boots that Claudia is using, as well as giving her glasses. I never thought that I would actually be quite as updated with fashion trends as I am (I'm usually way ahead of it or really far behind! lol). Maybe I will find the will to make a compelling drawing and show it to you people some time this century. heh

Just edited all of the first chapter of the web comic into English, will upload and share tomorrow!

I'm going to upload chapter two onto Danbooru for translation (due to my Japanese to English being broken English and vague) so hopefully that will get translated and pooled fast so I can work on that next!

Oh my gawd... that makes two triple-A seiyuu for MS using them as mascot voices. Hoepfully they don't make the mistake of trolling the otaku in Japan using the world (in)famous Aya Hirano. Would be fun to see their reactions though.

Anyway.. I think I need to change all of my lower body clothes... they're starting to feel sticky will all the JITP going in on here.

Just did minor inking (with a ballpoint pen, lol) so here is my Claudia sketch, this is the first time I've seriously sat down and drawn fanart out for over 30 min and come out happy with the product! TAT HAND IS TERRIBLE THOUGH, ITS BLINDING. Shading is also hard to see unless its the really dark shading...

Attempted to do that but failed miserably with the fingers being too long and going in to eyes O.O
These hands aren't my worst though, I've done MUCH worse with hands...

You know? I thought that drawing was threading on the Chibi style... so I went, "oh, tiny hands... chibi... cute... indeed cute". now I'm all "aww, no chibi style?" all over the place.

I think Claudia is adorable. I still don't understand what exactly the Cloud is, but I do understand what Azure is for.

Thanks fr posting the translations, Dr. Kraus. I was wondering what they were saying!

Answer for the cloud:
Cloud is quite useful these days and pretty secure with Azure around now so its starting to be implemented into schools, small business, large corporations, and even the home networks!
The easiest way to explain it is this:
Take your favorite game, lets say for an example, Touhou Perfect Cherry Blossom something you cherish very much (we are going to say you live in Japan and own a physical copy and didn't pirate it). You are worried that you might lose your high score which you worked your butt off it earn with a sudden hard drive corruption or file damage! Worry not, you uploaded the application to the cloud with Windows Azure, the application being THPCB, thus even if your computer's hard drive breaks or the file on the system is corrupted you have a back up instantly in the cloud! You could even run the game from the cloud if you wanted to, the things you could do are pretty much endless!

Reply:
Thanks! I'm going to start work on Chapter 2 soon enough and post it here and on the gallery (I wish the administrators could accept my posts though

microsoft cloud is a remote access application, as well as a networking application and web designing application. the commercials typically show people using laptops to coordinate efforts with others, remotely accessing other PCs, or designing things.
as kraus said, azure appears to be a built-in backup application for cloud.

also, welcome back tenko! ^^

Heheheh! I like the examples you used. That actually could happen to me with computer games.

With the Cloud, where does the stuff go? The internet? Some physical server Microsoft has? Somewhere else?

Hello, Choco! I'm glad to be back. :D I was without the internet for, like, a year. No fun.

Nope, Claudia's twitter is just little things about how the weather is hot and going to meetings about the cloud and stuff. No new web comic either or translation on the 3rd chapter, the 4th chapter shouldn't come out till about the end on the week maybe if they are quick plus twitter will let me know ASAP if that happens...

The final chapter of the Claudia webcomic was posted yesterday (though I was to lazy to click the little link on Claudia's twitter when I read it) and I gave it a little read, my translation sucks but I can get the jist of what is being said by the pictures and such. I haven't looked to see if chapter 3 was translated on Danbooru but I'll take a little peak in a bit along with posting Chapter 4 up for translation (hopefully someone will take the time to translate it, the dialouge is really short in the chapter...)

Also found these from "MicrosoftSpain":

Episode 3 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLdCyFn8RXs)

can't believe I didn't find these sooner. First time they ever came up in a search for me

sorry for the double post, but listening closely to the video, i hear Claudia call black-hair girl "Azumo-san". i googled "Azumo" and got references to izuma, izumo, azuma, etc etc, so methinks this is a name, not a misheard word. the closest result was Azuma, which is a name anyway, so it seems the little black haired girl is named Azumo Ruri (or Azuma Ruri, not sure which). :0

EDIT: listened to it again to make sure i wasn't hearing "Aizawa" and unless Claudia was slurring her words it is DEFINITELY "Azumo".

also, in the previous episode (2; was talking about 3 above), Claudia refers to Ruri as "kanojo". for anyone who's seen any anime ever, they know that this can translate to "girlfriend". given Ruri's reaction at Claudia in ep 3, i think there may be a canon-uncanon yuri budding here....
