Title: -tan of computer programs?

While looking for something else, I saw the above image. It's XP Home-tan with -tan of computer programs with her. That got me thinking of computer program -tan. I'm familiar with browser -tan, like Firefox-ko, Opera-tan, Safari-tan, IE-tan, etc. and I've seen drawing program ones too and that's pretty much it.

Have you ever seen other programs with designs?

And how do you think they'd act? With browsers, I think IE is adventurous in all meanings of the word, Firefox is helpful and adaptable but kind of hotheaded, Opera's elegant and gets stuff done but is also kind of a golddigger, and I have no idea about Safari. With the art programs, I think Paint means well but is an idiot and abused, while Photoshop is smart, but speaks in technobabble.

Anything else?

We probably had a thread/wiki talk about this somewhere, but likely that was waaaaaaAAAAAY back...so yeah.
Some more or less canon parts are included for prog-tans, but other than that, Idunno.

We've plenty of program-tans as it stands, "canon" and fan-made.

For the later category, we've Emacs-kun and a whole slew of other text editors: TECO, QED, Eve, Red, Vi and Expensive Typewriter among others; there's a BASH-tan, a MRDS-tan, different Unix Daemon-tans, Apache HTTP Server-tan, and a couple of IBM and CDC program-tans whose names escape me at the moment....

Does GIT-tan count?

There's a whole pack of CDC programs and utilities out there..... do you want me to list them all?

Or, you could look up there bios in the IBM thread : |

But for the new fellow's sake, here they are:

SMM-tan:
-CDC Repairman
-Keeps the hardware in working order
-MACE-kun's chief lieutenant
-Rarely leaves the Arden Hill plant.
-Status: Deceased?

Physical: Wears CDC coveralls and a hard hat, black haired, tall and thin, pale from lack of sun, usually carries a tool box.

KALEIDOSCOPE-tan:
-CDC software tester
-Responsible for making sure software is reliable before deployment
-SCOPE-sama's agent inside Arden Hill
-Nervous personality, brought on by stress
-Excellent eye sight
-Skilled diagnostician and chief medical specialist of the CDC family
-Status: Deceased?

Physical: Wears jeweler's glasses, short and sturdily built, has multicolored hair a la SCOPE-sama, prefers simple business clothes and a lab coat

MALET (Maintenance Application Language for Equipment Testing)-kun:
-Field scout for CDC
-Assists KALEIDOSCOPE-tan upon occasion
-The only CDC-tan that actually gets along with the field engineers
-Enjoys taunting and teasing the CDC OS's (MALET's job was to help engineers test for system errors)
-Plays pranks on SCOPE-sama frequently, but often serves as an emissary for her nonetheless

Physical: Dress a bit stereotypically, usually a button up shirt, tie, and slacks, about 6'0 but heavily built, black hair

there's several antivirus -tans and -kuns, and other programs, such as Saeko-tan (microsoft office), Skype-tan, and Outlook-tan. :3 (you have to look.)

i wonder, does WE-tan count as a program, or would she be some sort of child of the windows-tans....? :\

Poking life in this thread again, as it's always good to have places for things...

Now: I'm thinking of linking up my spawn GIT-tan with her interfacer/coworker in things, Trac-tan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trac).
For characteristics I'm thinking dark/red-white-black color theme, some sort of canine features (dat paw IS canine, right?) and large Trac-ts of land (herpderp). I'm not all too knowledgy about things though, so DEAR FELLOW SKIPPERS, PROVIDE A DEMON WITH A BALLPLANK.

Personality? Details? She's obviously a pretty social person, seeing as she's able to interface with a lot of different programs, and should be quite orderly and neat...but now I dunno how to keep going from there.

So I'm just gonna leave this here for a while and see if anything happens to it while I watch Shakugan no Gunfightan -w-

Alright, it's done~ The design, at least. Details on personality tomorrow.

The paw mark is Trac's own logo, and the shoulder thing is the Edgewall Software logo. Not coloring this now either, but color scheme is red for the Trac logo (black/red/white for the ES logo), white for the suit and her ears, and black for her hair. As for whether it's leather or latex...leather is winter coat, latex is summer coat -w-
Inb4 HORY SHET NEJ MANAGED TO DRAW TRACTS OF LAND. Lulz.
Also I think I might be better at freehanding, seeing as I didn't use any reference aside from a Momiji pic for the basic look of the ears, and it DIDN'T turn out like a total abomination. Woot.
Anyway, cheerio.

Looks good so far, and I'm liking the design quite a bit... might do a fanart of her. : )

As for the drawing itself, it has a few issues proportion-wise; I'd like to see the torso elongated a bit, the arms given joints (since they look a bit awkward being straight and positioned like that), the mouth given less detail perhaps (usually just a line for the teeth and/or tongue suffices) and the eyebrows raised a bit. The breasts actually look quite good, when drawing characters with larger endowments a lot of people just make two circles (thus giving the impression of a really bad boob job), but you've given them a proper form for the most part.

It's not necro if the OP replies, right?

NejinOniwa, that does look nice! I like her ears, hair, and suit.

I finally used Safari, so I got an idea for her. She's a reliable adventurer and loves to explore, but when she sees new things, she makes up stories about what they are. a.k.a. This page sure does look weird in that browser! XD

Yo Tenko. ^^

We're pretty lax when it comes to necroposting in threads, as long as it's something that's still vaguely relevant. Safari-tan has been drawn before, but never been assigned a personality, so i think your ideas could work...

dude.

safari was personified. (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i98/Chocofreak13/soul-replynetpage4.jpg)

......where did you guys THINK i got my info on os-tan relationships? :\

here (http://ostan-collections.net/forum/index.php/topic,1188.msg76557.html#msg76557) is the thread i got this from. there's more info on various -tans and -kuns there.

(however, i agree with bells that she could use some more characterization. however, we have a thread for -tan characterization now, so do it there please. =w=; )

Bella, thanks.

Choco, I thought I said that in the OP. I don't remember her having much characterization, though. I usually go with my experiences to characterize something, so I never used it, I have no idea what to say. Thanks for linking the thread. I'm going to start posting stuff there now.

i didn't link the characterization thread......please don't necropost the soul-reply.net thread ;^;
