yay, thankyou for organizing this. ^^

lesee, changeling can be crossed over with other games of the whitewolf series (vampire, werewolf, mage, wraith, etc) but for the first game we play of it i'd like to keep it simple in the name of getting everyone started. once everyone has their feet wet, then we can dive into the heavier stuff, such as expanded races/crossovers/different settings/etc.

i will provide the core book on request, however if we play i have 3 conditions:

1. take it seriously. changeling is crazy, so i'm all for randomness, but purposely goofing off, talking on the side, or detracting from the game is just rude, and i won't tolerate it. >:[

2. i don't tolerate backseat DMs. after one almost ruined my birthday, i'm not gonna take someone telling me how to do my job. >__<

3. don't piss me off. i'll thumb-of-god anyone who breaks the rules or breaks the plot on a regular basis. >__>;;

sorry if this sounds bitchy, but i want to lay this out now before it has the chance to cause problems. >__< (i wouldn't peg any of of you to do any of this, but this is just in case. ^^; )

i'd really like to play with you guys. nothing's more fun than playing a game overnight, well into the stupid hour. ^^

Uh, hullo :)

This is Nejin's cousin. Not sure what introduction would be correct - I'm an old RPG:er, never online but many years offline. Been a while now but I'm excited to play.

AW KAY, FOLKS, HERE IS THE DEAL.

Tonight at 6pm Eastern Standard or at midnight Scandinavian Standard, there will be character making works over skype. All players are advised to be present (Me and clone will, K-chan as well, so report in plz) so we can get this done.

The first gaming session will be on Saturday (the 12th feb) and will (preliminarily) start at 6PM EST/24:00 SST. LET'S DO EET~

Do we use audio or video when we play or just chat? This affects where I need to be saturday night as Nejin's internet is a ducati compared to my bicycle ADSL
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: NejinOniwa on February 11, 2011, 08:23:44 AM
Audio is likely to be used. OpenRPG - the program we'll be using - has chat channels, but we'll be using that for technicalities only.
Would be easier if you were here anyway, methinks. The more the merrier~ And Nightwalking on your own can be quite boring if you don't get into things properly.

Video seems like a far shot, though. It tends to lag a lot, even from my end.

Alright, all, I've setup the OpenRPG room. It's on the Blackstar Games server (I couldn't for all I tried manage to get a server of my own running) and named, appropriately, [HNCO-NeoN] /OSC/ Skypetable. The password is demon overlord. Hop in so we can try it out, so we can figure out how this works! -w-

execute Setup.py
then start the program

There should be a help file around somewhere.

I see Setup.py; but there are no program files to speak of. .__.

EDIT:

I'm being a lazy as hell, maybe I'll just install it on my virtualized XP system.

At least, I assume it's easier to install under Windoze. -w-

THE FIRST SESSION HAS BEEN COMPLETED. MINOR SETBACKS WERE HAD, BUT FUN TIMES WITH WINNAGE AND MUCH GOODNESS MARK THIS A SUCCESS.

The next session will be on Friday 18/2, from 5pm EST / 11pm SST.
Try to ensure you all have audio capability proper, and monopoly on computers/internets you will be using.

Best of luck!

Alright, this is ultimately the GM's call but as King of Games in general I hereby decree the following:

ALL CHARACTER CREATION MUST BE COMPLETED, AND REPORTED AS COMPLETED ITT OR TO GM IN CHARGE, AT LEAST 6 HOURS BEFORE PLANNED START OF A SESSION. If not, you are at the GM's mercy and goodwill for getting let in.

We'll mod this rule later to fit our current needs, ofc, but I'd say it's a good rule of thumb.
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: Chocofreak13 on February 13, 2011, 08:33:34 PM
nah, you nailed it right on the head. -w- after this test game, i'd like to get everything set at least 3+ hours before game time. gives me a chance to relax and get organized, since this time i was covered in piles of paper and kept my dice in my tanktop (which is lucky, so i might again anyway).

@krizo: pitkin said that too. but gaming is a great way to break the ice, so if you'd like to join and have a mic (and won't have anyone breathing over your shoulder to vacate the computer), you're welcome to join. ^^
(of course, pitkin also has the time zone difference. :\ )

@nej: don't crown yourself king of games when someone else is running. you're 2nd in command here. (but you're still my wingman here, thanks for the backup. 8) )

so. ROLL CALL:

I'll be working saturday and not fri/sun this week for some reason so I can't be up all night friday night :( Sorry for not having my schedule properly in my head... I work 15-22 saturday which means I'd have to go to bed prob around 0400 at the latest. Friday still works, but we'd have to start early, which I guess Bella would like - would that work for the rest of you? Otherwise swithching to sat would work for me too - if i go straight to Nej after work I'd be ready to start at 2300 at the latest.
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread

I'll be gone all weekend again, traveling Friday, ??? Saturday, and Sunday afternoon/evening might do.
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: NejinOniwa on February 14, 2011, 08:21:13 AM
If we do Friday and can manage to start earlier, then that would work, I suppose. How early is "doable" for everyone on Friday? I figure we could start as early as 20:00 SST, but that's 2pm for you guys, so I dunno if you're available.

For saturday I have work; at latest I will be back by 2300, just like mah clone, which means we'd be ready to start by then, but that'll make it another late session. Which alternative seems better for you people?
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: Chocofreak13 on February 15, 2011, 09:01:36 AM
i'd prefer the late session again, sorry. but i'm not going to get home till 4pm EST on friday (22:00 SST) so the session would be kinda short. i'd rather go for a time when we can go as long as possible, that way if we get to a part that's interesting or important, we don't have time constraints.

i'd prefer saturday, but if you guys want to go for a shorter session on friday, we won't be able to start till at least 4:30 EST/22:30 SST. with that in mind, i'm willing to do either.
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: NejinOniwa on February 15, 2011, 12:18:26 PM
Well, that sort of settles it for my part, at least...

I propose we go ahead and schedule the game for Saturday, 2300SST/5PMEST and onwards. It feels pointless to waste sleep before a workday (since both me and clone have work on sat) if you can't gain much of it anyway. SO ALL: Roll call, are we all A-OK with this setting?

Post by: Bella on February 16, 2011, 01:01:06 PM
THE EARLIER THE BETTER.

I'm not, simply NOT going to be able to join in on Friday if it goes late again. My ideal time for any game would be on the weekend (pref. Sat. or Sun.) between noon and 7pm.
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: NejinOniwa on February 16, 2011, 01:47:57 PM
Like earlier stated, that'd be ideal for us as well, under most circumstances, however this sat both me and clone have work until rather late hours, which leaves us with, well, what we have. At least it is during the weekend...

Hopefully we will be able to catch some of this precious time space (rofl) in the following weeks' sessions, but please bear with it for the moment -~-

So, Saturday session is cleared. Next week's session must be friday or saturday, since i will be jumping skiwards on sunday (and staying there a week). Starting earlier = y/n? Specific thoughts?

My random proposal is 21:00SST/3PM EST, Friday or Saturday. What say you, all?

Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: NejinOniwa on February 20, 2011, 11:58:56 AM
I'm packing my bags on saturday, so I'll prolly be home all day. 1pm/1900 would be just after dinner though, so we might want to delay it a slight tiny bit...

How early is acceptable, is what it  comes down to. But shall we say saturday, then?
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: Chocofreak13 on February 20, 2011, 01:00:38 PM
for me, usually the later the better. >__< i'm available all day, so that's not a problem, but my preference is when it's dark out. :\
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: stewartsage on February 20, 2011, 05:29:46 PM
Saturday I'm around all day; Friday no earlier then three would be acceptable, and that's pushing it.

i'm unavailable friday till 5-6, anyway. :\

When it comes to my availability on weekends (Sat and Sun), follow this rule of thumb: anytime after noon and before 5-7pm is best. The evenings during weekend tend to be the time that I have friends and family visiting (or am off to visit family and friends) - the earlier, the better. =.=

Hullo I've been off the planet for a while but I'm back now. Weekdays work for me this week but weekend will be tough.

May I suggest we let the party vary a little from game to game so that planning doesn't have to include everyone every time? I have a lot of free time right now - I could play a lot - but when I do work it's weekends and nights which kind of messes things up. (just quit school so i'm not scheduled on weekdays yay!)

You FINISHED school. That's a bit different.

To detail, my new job starts at 7am, which makes me quite unable to nightwalk efficiently unless I reverse-walk and wake up at midnight or something.

HAY GUIZE

today me and my sister got to talking about changeling, and it reminded me just how long it's been.

so i was thinking. anyone still want to play? i'm going to HAVE to get speedy up and running for school, meaning i'll be back on skype, and i'll have a schedule, meaning i'll be more regularly available.

one of the problems we had last time was coordinating times, so i'll give a rundown of my schedule:

mon-thurs i have school, and friday me and my sister run errands for my mum, so during the week i'm only really available from 7pm on on fridays.
as for weekends, obviously due to projects and homework i can't be available all the time, but for the most part i'm available weekends. sundays my mum works, so i'm usually not around saturday mornings and afternoons, but saturday nights and sunday (all day) i'm free.

lemme know if anyone's interested. i feel like scratching the RPG itch with my friends again, even if i don't have most of the books i used to anymore. :3

Can't say I'm not.
But.
Now I'm in uni, so I've studies to mind...
So schedule is pretty much weekends and most wednesdays free. Also timezones.
Hummum.

this is why i suggested weekends, as out of the people who expressed interest in playing, 6/7 of us are in school. when projects get heavy, we can skip a week.

it all depends on your workload. if you can't, that's ok. i'll find something else to fill up my saturday nights. :\

I can join, since I primarily work in the mornings on weekdays.

Also, if anybody's interested, Stew supplied me with some of the PDFs needed for Maid RPG, if you want to use that as a base, unless you have another system setup

changeling is a game with its own system. however, MaidRPG sounds interesting in itself, so provided we'd have someone to run it, i'd be willing to join that. :3

I'd be willing to step into the breech for MRPG.  It's not a terribly complex or difficult system, but it certainly provides the chance for plenty of wacky hijinxs.

Wacky hijinks are my favourite. @w@

Isn't MaidRPG the one that has the weird character generators?

If we get a Maid RPG campaign started, I'll definitely join. I'm always up for a game with wacky hijinks

hrm hrm, ok. :\ changeling seems to be outshined by maids, but the character sheets and core book are in .pdf form earlier in this thread.

Okay guys, come on, we've let this fall apart again!  I have tons of games to offer, ask and chances are I can provide!  Tapepunk? 50's dystopian thriller?  Paranoia?  Twilight 2000?  Dr. Who?  Maid?  Something!

I was only offering what I have, anyone else should make their own offerings.

The rules aren't very good for that set though....

The only one I have papers for is Maid RPG, although I read on TV Tropes about a Warehouse 13-inspired RPG. I'll have to look it up later for more info

I can provide for any game I suggest.  And a lot of things I don't offer.

Dr. Whooooooooo (I still think either Changeling or that would be awesome for this group)

I'd still like to see Maid RPG happen
Me gusta maids

But, a Doctor Who RPG would also be good

a friend of mine actually mentioned that a friend of his was running a dr. who themed D&D game. this tells me that with the right amount of planning, we could adapt any game to fit a dr. who theme. :3 (though dr. who maids just sounds like a recipe for tasty, tasty pony chaos. >>; )

Well, I do have rules for both Classic Dr. Who and New Series Dr. Who games.  Maids as well.

if people want to play, it'd be fairly easy to make a campaign for changeling based off Dr. Who.

I still kinda want to DM a campaign of MUTANTS, SWEEEDISH STYYYLE
What I'll do is just translate the character sheets and stuff and then be encyclopedic so I don't have to do SHITLOADS OF WRITING.

Character sheets for Mutant: Heirs of the Apocalypse, translated.

I'll roll up some basic materials on classes and whatnot, but I'll be walking you through character making manually anyway, so I won't translate more than necessary.

GET ON WITH IT YOU PONIES FIRE-BREATHING SIX-LEGGED MOOSE EXPLORERS

_____________________

BASIC INFO SHEET
Welcome to post-apocalypse Scandinavia, where everything is crazy and wants to kill you in five to eight different ways. And/or eat your weapons. (no, seriously, they do that.)
The gameworld encompasses a fairly small part of Northern Europe, with a lot of radioactive holes and wastelands in it. A LOT, seriously. But for simplicity's sake let's ignore the most of that, and stick to the main part of the setting - the Pyri Communion.

Or, well, to be exact - the Pyri Communion and its bordering lands, including the city-states Göborg (Gothenburg) and Moss, the raider-infested no man's lands of Frihetens Slätter (Plains of Freedom) and the towns it encompasses, as well as Pyri's main military rivals - Gotland and Ulvriket (Wolfreich, formerly known as Denmark).

Now then. Those big, ominous circles you see? Those are the Forbidden Zones - or more straightforwardly, nuclear wastelands. They house a good blend and large variety of things you do not want to meet, things you definitely do not want to meet and things you want to find and whisk away to sell for credits at the markets of Hindenburg and Pirit. And other things you want. Like laser guns! Who wouldn't want one? The problem, of course, is that you have to get past a good number of nightmare creatures, unfriendly mutants and homicidal robots to get to them...and you're armed with muskets and swords. Sound fun?

Don't worry, though - that's not all you're armed with. After all, what would a game called Mutant be without, well - Mutants?
---
The peoples of the land are of many different kinds, but to generalize there are 4 distinct groups - classes for you to choose between.

First we have the regular Mutant Humans and Animals - physically altered from their normal form and, in the latter case, granted sentience and the ever-important twiddlethumbs and trigger fingers. Somehow. Hell knows how those moose mutants operate a gun...
In any case, the MH/MA class have Powers called Mutations (no shit, Sherlock), that range from multiple limbs, double brains (sorta), suction cups, photosynthesis, poison, poison immunity, WINGS AND FIREBREATH AND SO ON. You get the deal.
Politically the MH/MA are the working force of the nation, the rank and file of society - they are the Lower Class, except for some who managed to fiddle their way upward by way of skills, kills or a bit of both.

Then we have the Non-mutated Humans (NMH). These guys are, or at least claim to be, the Heirs of the Apocalypse. They've got the brains, the power, the flair, the money, the pizzazz - they're the guys in charge, the Bloody Aristocrats. Their Powers are a bit less diverse, and go under the name Talents. These range from things like connections with the higher strata of society, servants and estates, or an imperial carte blanche; to more defined personal skills like Artistry, Dueling, Strategy and Command. A note: Talents can be purchased by the other classes as well, if they are eligible for it, for increased costs. This represents the bitter truth of the Communion's hierarchy - the emperor is human, and so are 90% of the aristocracy and upper strata. You can get in, but it's going to be tough.

Next we have the Psi-Mutants and their animal counterparts, Mentally Mutated Animals (which sounds really, really stupid, so stick with PSI, please). If the regular mutants are the lower class, PSI/MMA are the outcasts and casteless - feared and hated for their magical powers, they live their lives hiding their true selves, hiding from society or forever seeking recognition where there is very precious little to be found; even less, even, than for the comparatively normal MH/MA.
PSI/MMA have Powers called Psi-mutations (ORLY I WOULDN'T HAVE GUESSED), that range from classics like tele-, cryo- and pyrokinesis, telepathy and astral projection; to things like walking through walls, walking on walls, EMP bursts, manipulation of weather and plants, et cetera. It's magic! But watch out when you use it, or you'll get backlashes in the form of Resonance, afflicting you with things from horrible migraines or sensory overload to brain overheating and death. Or even worse, you'll get spotted by one of PSIPO's hunters, and get their xenophobic hounds on your heels...

Lastly we have the unarguably rarest of the classes in M:UA - the Robots. RBT are the loyal, artificially sentient servants of the upper echelons - in most cases, anyway. The Robot Laws, hardcoded into every robot's core circuits, dictate that a Robot is not allowed to harm a human, and must follow their orders - however, if one is so inclined (or On A Mission) mutants and beasts are generally considered Not Human and thus fair game, and there are even some units who have had their behavior limiters removed to ensure no pesky humans can stand in their way - all the more, making for a strange, exotic class of beings that nobody fully understands anymore.
Robots have Powers called Options. They are the things that define them, that sets them apart - the various physical parts and abilities that separate them. Options range from subtle things like intercoms, sensor suites, microscope eyes and translation units - to cooler things like eye lasers, weapons platforms, wheels or maglev units.

Now I'm getting too tired to keep doing this, so I'll just ask you to report in for character generation, which I will help you with manually.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE?

@pentium: always welcome! ^^

I only wants my forum-based games back. Those were the only ones with characters I actually cared for..... :Z

Though the potential for this next game of Changeling to be only text-based and not have to include the veritable clusterfuck and scheduling headache that is 5+ person Skype voicechats offers some incentive for me to join in.
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: Chocofreak13 on February 01, 2012, 03:24:10 PM
yeah, i was thinking text-only would be preferable, since it'd be easy to keep a log of what happens. i don't know about you, but i absorb written information better than spoken, it seems.

@stew: then report to the changeling thread! ^^

That's EXACTLY what I was saying all last winter when you were trying to get us to do voice games. That and having a parent who seems to love butting in on voice/video chats.
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: Chocofreak13 on February 01, 2012, 03:50:28 PM
well, last time we weren't keeping logs. >>; plus, i never said you were wrong, i just wanted to at least TRY the voice option. but considering even non-gaming chats can devolve into where one person never talks and one person never shuts up, i agree that text-only is the way to go.

also, i'd like to keep it on skype, but i was thinking that since my internet restrictions have laxed quite a bit, if i can get openrpg working, that might be an option as well.

that said, more details should be redirected to the changeling thread (i'm never gonna give it up!).
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread

I vote text only. Voice calls are nearly impossible so long as my mom is in the house >_<
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: Chocofreak13 on February 01, 2012, 07:02:42 PM
especially since this will be an extended interaction, meaning that having anyone around to meddle makes it impossible. :\
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: Nichi on February 01, 2012, 07:08:07 PM
Yeah. Hopefully when we do this, mom doesn't interrupt me with trivial things such as "I want chocolate milk; you're making it even though I could have done it myself because I went through the trouble of getting up to go to your room to tell you this, walking by the kitchen in the process" :/

I should invest in a "Do Not Disturb" sign for my door, for when I'm RPing and the like :3
Title: Re: /OSC/ Skypetable RPG - Overview Thread
Post by: Chocofreak13 on February 01, 2012, 07:15:25 PM
the "do not disturb" sign will likely only concern her further. when we start, just tell her you're about to play a game and don't want to be bothered for several hours, so if she wants anything done, she should ask you to do it then.

that said, is everyone aware of what i'd like to see done for the potential changeling game?
