Title: CALLING ALL EAST-COASTERS (and Nejin and Red)
Post by: Chocofreak13 on July 26, 2010, 07:42:28 PM
given that i have taken to aquiring as many OSTAN-ers as i can, come next july i will be dragging as many of you as i can get to Otacon. keep your schedule clear.

now then, one of the things i request is that, with coming, you cosplay as a (CANON) OS-tan (or -kun, respectively).
as follows, i am handing out RECCOMENDATIONS (this may change if you like) of which -tan/-kun people may be best suited for. i do not mean to sound tyrannical; feel free to suggest something else, as long as it is NOT a custom-made -tan (sorry, no vintage -tans. ;____;). the more canon we are, the more likely we are to be recognized, and that way everyone has fun. ^^

3.1: StewartSage has volunteered to be 3.1-kun (thankyou very much, stew ^^), but given that this is a year in front of us, we can work thins out differently if people prefer.

95: in my opinion, Bella, you would make a lovely 95-tan; i can provide all the costume materials and if you grow out your hair a bit you might not need a wig (if you don't want to we can find one).

98: i was on the way to convincing Red to cosplay as 98; if he arrives here a little early from the UK we might even be able to get together the Kamen Rider themed version of him. ^^

98SE: no one yet. (technically i could cosplay her in a pinch, or we could get a giant box. :3)

NT/Inu-T: No one, but, come to think of it, i have a furry friend that might like to sell her stuff at otacon. she could go as inu, someone remind me to contact her >___< (nej, you remember ki, right?)

ME: No one as of yet. (ME-kun is really easy to cosplay, guys, all you'd need is a small suit and a green wig, and technically i have the suit. :3 )

2000: Me! ^^ No needs to worry about that, just a few kinks to work out in the costume.

XP (any version): No one yet, though i know a girl who has the same "endowments" as XP; she could cos as her but she's a tad short (i also have an XP Pro-kun cosplay lying around, but it's a little small)

Vista: Nej, unless he wants to be someone else. He pulled it off something splendid this year, and whatever kinks you have in the outfit nej, we got plenty of time to work them out.

7: No one yet. (This one does not have the option of a -kun yet, so technically i could fill in for her if everyone prefers)

Norton Antivirus: Probably our driver (my friend/brother type person), Gabe. He's the one that introduced me to this whole thing, and the one that reccomended we all cosplay in sync, since he used to have a habit of putting on an unofficial skit based on 1 anime.

don't get mad or anything. this is a year away, so we have PLENTY of time to plan. but we shouldn't squander it, which is why i decided to put this thread together EARLY.

also, everyone that comes (and dresses up) will get to carry on the tradition of "file sharing" from this year's Anime Boston, by passing out porn folders. ^^

DISCUSS, PEOPLES.

wish i could go, but i can not, i live 40minutes away from it, but i got no car (my pacer stopped working.)

I would dress up as 7-tan, or we-tan.

if we exchanged porn, you would have to have a spare 500gb external, my porn is at 411gbs.

I wish i could be a part of it, but i can't.

My attendance is contingent upon my robb- having enough money to get there/arrange quarters not my car/pay for gas/convince my mother I won't die in the City.

That aside I love Baltimore and can probably make some sort of 3.1-kun costume, though I'll need to find larger epaulets.....

Maryland's hella far from here, doubt I'll be able to go due to my duties to the family business + not having balls enough to DRIVE TO FFFFFCKING MARYLAND. D:

But if I can wriggle out of my duties to the family business + find balls enough to DRIVE TO OH GOD SO FAR AWAY you might see me there. (Prolly not though).

YES, YOU CAN.

Not that I mean to sound bitchy, but if you put your mind to it you'll likely be able to go, regardless of your current situation. It's one year; more than plenty enough time to scrounge up flight money/driver/ride/confidence/opportunities to get there.

Manchester-Baltimore (for lack of more exact directions) is 444 miles; a considerable distance, but nothing that I haven't done in a single day before. For easy you could team up with someone and switcheroo.

You're a bit off on this one... -w-;

In any case, I recommend anyone who IS remotely interested to start seeing just how (im)possible it really is. What does a flight ticket cost? Is there anyone you could bother to get you there? How much do you need to work extra/save to afford shit?

It's a bit unfortunate that train lines aren't as widespread in the states as in Europe, because that would've made things easy pie; then again, it is a bit different as a base problem, as well.

And here's to me, hoping I won't be all flat out of cash... -w-;

Mass huh? Eh... that makes it a far more feasible, but it'll be hard to get out of work AND explain to everyone why I'm taking a trip to lovely Baltimore Maryland.  >>

Maybe if I convince my family/boss I'm going on a quest to build up my travel self-confidence or something. This coming from a person who's terrified of auto travel (especially behind the wheel) and commercial flights and strange new places. <<

Okay, I need details. Should I decide/be able to go:

How long will the trip be? What are the exact dates of the trip?
How much will I be expected to kick in for travel/lodging/ticket expenses?
Any idea where we'd stay?
Would we be taking a car or traveling by bus?

If I have an internship, I have no way of knowing at this point what sort of vacation days allotment I'd get.  Though that way I would be closer to Baltimore that way and it might not even be a problem.

they haven't even announced the dates yet.
assuming everything is still as planned (since the guy who set this all into motion had fallen off the edge of the earth and no longer talks to me, it's shaky) we'll be going by car and sharing a hotel room. i say A hotel room due to the fact that 1. it will cut down on costs 2. we will be able to keep track of everyone and 3. everyone will have a place to go at night.

everyone must pay for their own ticket to otacon. (sorry, no free rides in that sense.) it'd make things easier and more tangible if we could split the cost of a hotel room, and of course you bring your own spending monehs.
(any extra for gas is also appriciated. :3)

everyone good? it's A YEAR AWAY so we have plenty of time to slowly make this real. <3

NO LIMITS ON HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN COME. WE'LL FIND A WAY.

THE DATES FOR OTACON ARE JULY 28-31, PEOPLE.

MY FRIEND RUSSELL HAS VOLUNTEERED TO TAKE US TO OTACON, PROVIDED EVERYONE CHIP IN FOR HOTEL AND GAS MONEY.

WE WILL MOST LIKELY STAY AT A MARIOTT.

WE WILL GET 1 ROOM. I REALIZE THIS WILL PROVIDE SOME SPACE CONSTRAINTS, BUT DUE TO COST-CUTTING, IT IS NESSACARY. PLEASE REMEMBER WE HAVE PEOPLE COMING LONG DISTANCE.

I FIGURE WE'D CHECK IN THE 27TH, LEAVE THE 31ST.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR OTAKON 2011. HOWEVER, I WILL CHECK BACK PERIODICALLY AND LET YOU KNOW WHEN IT IS. (MAKES A GREAT HOLIDAY GIFT!!)

EDIT: AT LAST COUNT THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE WERE ATTENDING

CHOCOFREAK13
NEJINONIWA
STEWARTSAGE
RED-MACHINE
BELLA
PIZZA DRILL
RUSSELL

PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED ON ATTENDANCE.

THAT IS ALL.

you pay for what you get. that means that if you're riding with us, you chip in for gas. same goes for room.

I really want to go, but there's still a ton of variables that will have to be fulfilled in order for everything to work. -.-

When we talk about "chipping in," how much money do we speak of?

And also, what's all this about registration and stuff-- do you have to buy membership in advance? And what are the payment options? (I don't have a credit card, so online shopping is a pain. >>)

^ Ah! I was gonna suggest 95-kun too!

If (IF IF IFFY IF!) I make it to otacon I wanna cosplay generic Mac-tan or Sonata-sensei.

Blonde wig, check.
Simple, light outfit, check.
My Apple Evangelist sentiments, double check.

Although knowing me, I'll probably take artistic license when it comes to making the outfit. (No qualms 'bout wearing a white leotard and gloves and thigh-high socks, but it might not be so comfortable.) D:

BWI isn't in Baltimore proper so you'd have to take the MARC to Penn Station (in the city itself).  Rail travel can be kinda expensive; it varies a lot but if I go at least part of the trip will be by train.

And in fact, flights to Boston are like the cheapest there are if you're bound for the States. And I was thinking I'm likely gonna try getting there some weeks early, to hang around with you guys and actually have some summer vacation for once. -w- (Would suck spending 600$ on flight tickets just to go home after half a week >_>) So that needs to be planned as well.

Going by train might... um... sweeten the deal slightly.

Still undecided about going. And by undecided I mean almost certainly not, barring all sorts of FANTASTIC TWISTS OF FORTUNE! >>;

What, like having a Demon Overlord showing up at your front door with a very large and hungry grin on his face kind of twists of fortune? 'Cuz I think I could manage that. -w-

now nej, are you offering bells something that belongs in the hentai forum? xD

yay, demonic summer vacation <3 love that idea. and bells, you're coming. end of story. save some cash and register soon.

krizo, this is before your time. if you're on the east coast meet us at Otacon next summer dressed like an os-tan/kun.
and you're not 12, silly-willy. xD

nej, i was thinking flying directly in, since it would save you monehs on train tickets, but if you want demonic summer vacation, i'm not complaining.

DEAR OSC: WE'RE GOING BY BUS.

i keep switching things around, ik, i'm sorry, but idk why i didn't think of this sooner. i take a bus 4 days a week. =?

anyway, apparantly megabus goes directly from boston to baltimore, meaning no annoying extra piece of how to get from DC to baltimore (since most trains/buses/etc don't go to baltimore), and (i seriously doubt we'll get THIS good prices) they apparently start from $1 a ticket.

i see plenty of megabuses leave from south station all the time. as long as we don't overpack, this is a perfect solution, compared to the cost of train/plane/automobile. ^^

unfortunately, since the con is over half a year away, i can't judge ticket prices yet. however, they usually aren't more than $20 (idk if that's round trip, but it's still GOOD), which is MUCH cheaper than train.
stew alerts me that it would be a REALLY, REALLY long ride, however i think in terms of cost because the cheaper it is, the more people can go. :3 (and the more monehs for con swag. >:3)

http://us.megabus.com/
lemme know what you think. :3

EDIT: just so everyone knows, Otakon next year is July 29-31, 2011. If we could get down there the 27th or so, that would be best me thinks.

please plan accordingly. ^^

(doublepost~lolwut)

psst, hay guize. i'm making an account on the Otakon BBS as we speak, this will likely fill in all the info we need. ^^

i know this sounds impossible, but if we take it one step at a time we can do it. it sounds like it would be so much fun to gather everyone together like this. i hope everyone else feels the same way. (you guys are some of my best friends. it's time we met in person. ^^)

And what If I DID live on the east coast, by chance? ;)

I don't know much about you people yet, and I have no porn to exchange (unless you count the hilarious ecchi of my os tan) but meeting with all of you could be fun!

no no mah boi, not REAL porn. -w- tis a gag i came up with at this past year's AB. Basically we (dressed as OS-tan) did a little "file sharing" by passing out manila folders labeled "porn" (the contents inside were anything from us ranting to really bad doodles to dumb ecchi puns).

me and bells are in NH. stew's in virginia somewhere, svx just sorta.....exists, and pitkin, fedora, red and nej are all in europe (this forum is based out of france). where you at? (if you can make it, then make the pilgrimage to the holy land, my son. -w-)

Ah, I see,
I could probably pass out something then.

I'm in SC, so it's pretty far south, but hey, it's in the middle of the summer, It'll be summer before I go to college and I want to dress up as System 7 Kun! (Gangster overload)

will they stop me if I bring my Sword?

otakon has a more liberal policy in terms of weapons, but idk. is it a real sword?

i can't stop you from going as who you want, but it's highly appriciated if you go as canon as possible (the more people recognize us, the more fun everyone has). do as you want, but it'd be nice if we could all sync up. :\

SC isn't far from otakon. far from here, yes, but not far from otakon (you're actually closer than us :\)

i had a friend that lived in SC. don't know what ever happened to him....

Yeah, it's real, but I will admit it's not very professionally made.

Well, I was thinking I could go as Mac os 9 kun, but I don't think I really look like him much.
XP kun doesn't have a shirt, and neither do the OSX Kuns.

But I could definitely pull the System 7 gangster theme, you saw me in those sunglasses!
/puts on sunglasses
YEAHHHHHHHH

Plus I already have pretty much all I would need to dress up, gangster hat? check, gangster coat? check! Rainbow colored neckerchief? I'd be danged if I didn't own one. :D
I think I could pull it off very well is why I'd recommend me going as Pleiades Kun.

Though if you have anyone else in mind, I'll definitely listen :)

who the fuk is pleiades (besides the constellation).

from what i remember from your pic, grow your hair out a bit, bleach it, shave any facial hair, and you're good. -w- or you could be ME-kun since it seems like no one wants to and we could use one. :3

if you can grow your hair out enough in time, you could also make a passable 95-kun (since bells is being so resistant to going).

wait, wait, i just remembered, you're not even in college yet? how old are you? =? (ik we have 2 youngin's here but i didn't realize we had 3!)

@Krizonar: Oh... So that's System 7/Pleiades-kun in your avatar! I fail!

Too bad there's no way I can go to this (I'm so isolated! I'm probably the only midwesterner here!), but if I totally could, I'd dress as one of the Mac-tans!

Another feller to the works is all fine with me... -w-

Though I sincerely doubt you'll be allowed the sword in. Unfortunately.

Here around these parts things are a lot looser - once when I was at Sweden's largest con, UppCon, someone had brought a full metal SCYTHE with them, and it was standing around the sleeping halls (no hotels here, we use cheaper stuff -w-). It was sorta blunt, true, but it was still almost 2 meters high with a 1-meter blade, and it must've weighed around 15 kilograms or something. More, perhaps, even.

So yeah. Next time I've gotta drag you all to some con over here... -w-

Actually it's not, so you don't fail, it's my online character identity (an OC) with my two favorite Tans.
And that's what I'm trying to do is dress as a Mac kun :)

@Choco; Pleiades is the name I give Mac System 7, because like Antares, it's a constellation and its other name is "seven sisters".
growing my hair out I can do, I'm pretty uncomfortable with bleaching it though...
but don't worry, my hair is kinda long (shoulders) and it's wavy.

I turned 18 this month :D

@Nejin; hm, It has a sheathe and I can probably say its fake (since it's poorly constructed and pretty wobbly)

~
For all intents and purposes, System 7 looks like this http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs39/f/2008/332/0/1/Chibi_Macintosh_System_7_tan_by_C_quel.png and I have a dress shirt almost exactly like that (blue with white stripes). So I am absolutely sure I could pull off a male version of that look (except for having blue hair down to my knees...of course)

edit; My parents think this idea is fun and are willing to buy me any clothes to make my outfit be good! :)

yay, go you! ^^ so we have another one on board.

if possible, could you, um, go as maybe OS9-kun? (i have a bad feeling that if OS7-tan wasn't invented here, she might as well have been.) it's fun if people are like, "OMG!! OS-TAN!! <333" and we're like, "omg!! yay!! ^^"

well people, we've discovered how the majority of us are getting there. (and it turns out megabus is a double decker, whoo! ^^) now we need to figure out how much everyone would need to pool in for a hotel, where we'd stay and how/when we'd get there.

OK, IZ SERIUS TIEM.

i'm double posting since i have a few announcements:

WHO'S GOING (so far)
Choco
Nejin
Krizo

possibles
Bella (you're going bella. this is just a formality.)
Red (haven't gotten a confirm or deny yet)
Russell
Stew

METHOD OF TRANSPORT
plane (internationals only)
bus (megabus for people coming from new england area, everyone else we'll figure it out)
possibly subway or such (in baltimore)

OTHER MATTERS
~all questions regarding weapons at the con, refer here. (http://otakon.com/policies.asp#weapons)
~i am currently inquiring about hotels (which are closest, cheapest, most willing to turn a blind eye to a bunch of nerds in a room)
~i am also inquiring about pre-registration (when it begins, how much it is).
~stew requested that i ask about group events (i agree, it'd be fun to do something together ^^), so i'm asking about that as well.
~i know it's still far off, but otakon recommends we bring plenty of water, so everyone is required to bring a big water bottle. :3

if anyone wants me to find out anything else, let me know. i don't know bus prices yet as it is too soon to tell (ask me in a few months).

here (http://www.otakon.com/pdf/bcc_map.pdf) is a map of the convention hall. :3

STRUCTURE ON THINGS <3

I'd really appreciate a cost figure, to start with - adding that to my flight ticket will give me a good lookout on how much this adventure will cost me overall.

As for weapons, I doubt I'll be able to bring anything anyway seeing as I'd have to get it through fukken customs first >_>

But it's nice to see some fire in this thread again! Makes anticipation rise for this summer. -w-

...OR RURAL NH.

Srsly, I have a WAAAAAY better chance of convincing the family to let me go on some solo quest to the West Coast, braving the groping TSA agents, terrorist infested Skies and the utter foreignness of San Fran - not to mention the $500-$700 cost of plane tickets - than going to the Con with you bunch of (and I say this from the most loving of ways) crazies. ><;

Basically, I need an excuse to go. An anime con is not an excuse that will fly. Now, if I were to go on some solo quest to Baltimore and just happened to visit an anime con and just happened to run into you totally awesome bunch of crazies, that could fly. I don't have a suitable excuse to go to Baltimore, however.

NOW, Washington DC is a place I've wanted to visit since childhood -- so IF I could get permission for that trip, and attach the Baltimore visit/Otacon on as a side-attraction, that could work. COULD. They're still really wary of letting me go solo to DC, since, you know, it's a big city with plenty of crime. And politicians. But THAT's the best "in" to a Baltimore trip, and Otacon, I have.

QuoteThey're still really wary of letting me go solo to DC, since, you know, it's a big city with plenty of crime.
I think I could fix the "solo" part of that sentence... >:3

Well, not that I know what you mean - it may be less common here, but I know my deal of restrictive parentry as well, I suppose. Not that I've had that misfortune, luckily - however, the main part of your go or not go seems to be which of the two basic strategies you'll be using. Truth-and-sheer-force-of-will, or White-lies-incomplete-stories-and-deception. Both should go if you push enough, and noteworthy is of course that legally you are your own woman, so as long as you have the finances in hand you should be able to do whatever you want, barring any contracts made beforehand. Not that I'm suggesting you draw the wrath of your family or whatever over your head, but as long as you're positive, you will be able to pull through.

The crossroad needs to be taken, though - strategy number 1 is essentially hit-or-miss, while strategy number 2 would need careful planning and a good bit of discreteness - and neither are very easy to pull off once you've tried the other, unless your opposing party is A: forgetful, B: gullible/very open to negotiations, or C: plain incompetent - neither of which are epithets I'd attach for a dollar.

In the ways you describe it, things sound like you're best off with #2, and possibly even - as sad as that'd be - avoiding co-transit with the rest of us; then again, that's just a reflex reaction to go full-out confidential with thing from my part, and I'm not denying there's a good bit of paranoia fueling that. You know your situations best - if in doubt, though, I'm fairly confident in my abilities as a strategic counselor.

a wild pillow appeared! choco used hug! it's super effective!

a-anyway.....bella, i have another option, though it is likely to land you in the steampot later. take funds, go to boston, run off, ?????, profit!!

i think you'd also have a better chance of going if you mention the plan, but say that you came up with it yourself, and stress the fact that it's CHEAPY CHEAP CHEAP. (cheaper than flying, at least, and with alot less stress.)
SRS
if your folks want to meet some of us so we can prove anti-crazy, i'm willing to do that. on the net i'm much more insane that i am irl. (mind you, i'm still batshit crazy irl, but i have moments of SRS BIZNES, and can be SRS BIZNES if need be.) i have nej to back me up on this. if i can keep everyone together and find our way back to the condo from an unknown location at 2am, AND organize a trip to the biggest con in the country, i think i'm a LITTLE responsible. ^^

sides, if they're worried about your safety, just know that i consider you one of my best friends, and i'd take a bullet for anyone i'm that loyal to. :]

UPDATE PEOPLES, SOMEONE REPLIED TO MY POST:

"Pre-registration usually begins anywhere between January and March, depending on when the folks who run it are ready. Keep checking the main site - it will be announced eventually, along with the price. Last year it was $65 to pre-register, if I remember correctly.

A lot of people I know who bring large groups to the con like to stay at the Tremont Plaza. It's a bit of a walk but I've heard the rooms are good-sized and comfortable. The Days Inn and Holiday Inn are both close by, but they sell out quickly. Your best bet is probably to check the hotels page of the main site and see what's still available, and then narrow down to what fits into your budget, and then you can check distances in Google Maps or another mapping site.

From the downtown Greyhound bus station, I believe you can take the MTA Route 27 bus towards Port Covington to get to the Inner Harbor. You can check their website for schedules and fares, it's http://mta.maryland.gov. You can also take a taxi - the ride is quite short to any of the Inner Harbor hotels and the fare will probably be less than $10, which isn't much split among a group. It might be worth it to do that if you have a lot of luggage."

CHOCO IS WANTED TOO, YANNOW >_>

And that's a damn nice effort. Really. Saves a lot of time for us all, especially coordination...

And 65 bucks is pretty cheap for me, what with the Krona/Dollar courses being what they are and seem to continue being.

Anyway, I'll be checking up the flight prices when they start popping up - with any luck, this'll turn out cheap enough for me to go without expending too much of my power points.

(lol, i just realized that i posted all the pics in the mac-kun album! xDD)

you could go as OSX-kun. :3 shirtless catboy? xDD

yay choco is wanted. ^^ and krizo, YOUR EMOTICON IS BACKWARDS, MAH BOI. xD lol.

now we just need to decide what hotel we wanna stay at, who's DEFINITELY going, and reserve the bus tickets/hotel.

we should also nail down when we wanna leave, and how we wanna get around baltimore. :\ (my vote for departure date is the wednesday before, early morning.)

SO PEOPLES, NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA.

figuring out which hotel we're gonna stay at, how to pay for said hotel, and finally BOOKING said hotel for (i'd say) 5 days/4 nights. (wed-sun ?)

good friend/veteran con-goer colleen says sheraton is likely to turn a blind eye to large groups in one room, as long as we don't book in the quiet suite (apparantly old friends of ours liked to have drunken orgies in the sheraton).

lolol drunken orgies? -w-; sounds like this'll be one heck of a trip indeed.

My only issue is that Sheraton (at least here) is assingly expensive - then again, if we group up on the cost, it won't amount to all that much, so it might be A-OK.

i'ma check some prices, but idk if i'll be able to get a figure this far from the actual trip, so unfortunately everything might just be spectulation....

okie, lessee. after searching on a baltimore travel site found on otakon's home page, i have the following info (using the search criteria "check in 7/27/11, check out 7/31/11, 4 adults, 1 room, in the inner harbor region of Baltimore[i'd like to book asap to lock these rates]):

Sheraton Inner Harbor Hotel(all prices 'estimated'):
"1 King Bed Government Rate - ID Required Not Valid For Government Contracted Vendors Government Employee ID Government Employment" : $144 (i doubt we'll be able to book this room, i think it's for gov. employees)

"1 King Bed AAA Parking Package AAA Or CAA Membership ID Required At Check-in Special Rate Includes Self - Parking For 1" : $302.10 (any room with AAA offers, we can book, my mom has AAA and has offered to loan it)

"1 King Bed AAA Parking Package AAA Or CAA Membership ID Required At Check-in Special Rate Includes Self - Parking For 1" : $315.60 (idk the difference)

"1 King Bed Best Available Rate Traditional Non-smoking Sweet Sleeper Bed Stadium View High-speed Internet For A Fee 32" : $319

"1 King Bed Best Available Rate Traditional Non-smoking Sweet Sleeper Bed Harbor View High-speed Internet For A Fee No" : $334

Hyatt Regency Baltimore(all prices 'estimated'):

"Queen 1 Queen Bed Floors 4-14 372 Square Feet Non-smoking" : $359

"1 King Bed 1 King Bed 244 Square Feet Floors 3-9 Workdesk" : $359

"Awaken Package* Queen 1 Queen Bed Floors 4-14 372 Square Feet Non-smoking" : $374

"Respire Room Hypo - Allergenic Room Desk 244-259 Square Feet" : $379

"Busn Plan 1 King Bed Includes Full Breakfast For 1 High-speed Internet Access" : $384

Hotel Monaco Baltimore(all prices 'estimated'):

"AAA And CAA 375 Square Feet Non-smoking King Deluxe Room Ihome Docking Station Animal Print Bathrobes" : $233

"AAA And CAA 435 Square Feet Non-smoking Room With 96in King-sized Bed Ihome Docking Station Animal Print Robe" : $251

"AAA And CAA 400 Square Feet Non-smoking Room With 2 Double Beds Ihome Docking Station Animal Print Robes" : $251

"Best Available Rate 375 Square Feet Non-smoking King Deluxe Room Ihome Docking Station Animal Print Bathrobes" : $259

"Best Available Rate 400 Square Feet Non-smoking Room With 2 Double Beds Ihome Docking Station Animal Print Robes" : $279

out of these, i like the monaco the best (we get the most for our money, and animal print bathrobes!! ^^), however i left some out so if you'd like to look for yourself here's the site i searched at:

http://baltimore.org/

just enter the search criteria i used in the "online reservations" box. (if you don't use the criteria, at least make the location "inner harbor". that's where the convention hall is located.)

i also just shot off an email to the Baltimore chapter of Hostelling International USA (a hostel), though given that we'd want a sanctuary from the con i doubt we'll be booking there.

gimme some response, guys. i'll keep you updated when i get a reply from the hostel.

I don't really need the bathrobes anyway, I have Snow Leopard patterned lounge pants already.

If it helps, I'll pay for my own room,

if we had the money for a ride, or could figure out the local subways beforehand, we could probably book outside of the city, which would save a BUTTLOAD.

There are no subways.  There's MARC if you want to go to or from DC (Not sure about prices but it's commuter service so it can't be terrible/you can probably get a card/I'll look it up) Amtrak for longer distances and the light rail but I don't know much about it's route.  I don't know, my last map large map of the city's from 1959.

Even more so if the convention is spread out over a few k's and the general populace knows NOTHING of it all...

First UppCon I went to, '06. <3 We were a party of 6-ish crazies, and while I wasn't very dressed up, some of my mates - and the rest of the con-goers - certainly were. Innocent regular teenagers out strolling at night, and we were getting to one of the cinemas that had been hired for showing stuff - the WTFWHAT looks were veery nice. -w-

well, that IS fun times....i was merely thinking of how much it would suck to half to walk multiple blocks late at night. :\

i had a crazy sleep-deprived half-baked idea last night as i was wandering off to dreamland......

we get a tent
and find a place in some obscure part of the convention hall/hotel with a set of bathrooms......(some place that isn't being used)
and set up the tent. and we move to a different location every night of our stay.

i just remembered that tents are large and cumbersome, but if we split up the parts among ourselves then it could work. xD

Title: CALLING ALL EAST-COASTERS (and Nejin and Red)
Post by: Chocofreak13 on December 04, 2010, 08:34:31 PM
i've seen people sleeping on floors, in hallways, heard of people doing this, sleeping in subway stations, etc. a friend of mine almost did that at AB, but we caught him just in time and dragged him back to the condo (nej, you remember tom, right? good times -w-). another friend of mine at AB (who was SUPPOSED to drive us home, but he lost his license -.-; ) ended up sleeping in a nearby apple store (it was during a midnight release, so it was less frowned upon).

basically, the rule goes: the bigger the con, the bigger the shennagins. and otakon's the biggest here.

lemme put it this way: the guy who enlightened me to otakon used to do unofficial skits with his friend during the con, each year with a different anime as a theme. one year they did get backers (look it up), and they decided to "get back" things from the dealer room for people. they took requests, went in, and just took whatever they wanted, and got away with it. :3

another year was trigun (his first year there actually) and the con was double booked with a gay/lesbian/whathaveyou convention (complete with religious protesters outside) which made it funnier when he shouted "MAKE WAY FOR JESUS!!" when his friend (dressed as wolfwood) came through.

us setting up a tent somewhere on the premises and sleeping in it is MILD. especially if we pick out-of-the-way locations.

don't worry, i'd make sure we had a backup, but i think this one would be interesting. besides, we'd all get to know each other REALLY well. :3

Hotelguides seems to offer a fairly nice selection of hotels extremely close to the con center (if I googled everything correctly ._.), though I don't really understand what "standard rate range" means in practice. Just randomly, I checked for four people per room in a place called Quality Inn Downtown, and seem to get something like $160 as price. Not really bothering to delve deeper in it, I don't know if that's the price per person or per room. If per room, it'd sound fairly ok, and if per person, insane for a two-star inn.

Truth be told, even though I did read through the thread a while ago, I cannot recall the problems really: walk distance and price, I believe. Sorry, I'm not probably of help and not even participating, but I thought I'd look into it quickly after Choco's post. ._.

@Pitkin: I checked that one as well, and it gave me something 67-ish for 2 people a night, 1 room. Which suggests it's the full 4-people price.

On the topic of status, and schedule - at least for my own part.

On the 13th of August my brother is getting married, which means I hafta be home a bit before that happens - possibly as much as a week. What I would like to do, however, is to visit DC at some point; and it seems flying home from there wouldn't be all that problematic/costly. So since I'm in the area once Otacon ends, I figured I might as well.

So, anyone else up for a little post-con DC trippin'? -w-

Basically anything short of long distance travel, I'm good for as long as my mother knows what's going.  Or close enough to knows.  Thing is, I have no idea where she gets it.  My grandparents are unbelievably chill, so *shrug*  Only thing is, if I apply for and get this internship it really won't matter.  I'll be able to take the MARC to DC/Baltimore, stay with my grandparents, and it won't be a problem.

Thing is, everything's just in too much of a flux now for me to know whats going to be happening in July.

THIS.

They're pretty trusting of me and consider me rather responsible (see: staying out of trouble for the most part and acting generally un-teenagerish) but travel is definitely a sore spot (years in New England have prolly made them a bit xenophobic to the outside world, lol).

Money and whether or not our house get finished by the summer will be the two determining factors in my case. = =

Do you mean 2012?

I'm going to sound like a selfish bitch, but if it's being put off till 2012 I'm thrilled... as much as I'd have loved to see you guys this summer, the extra year, to me, equals a heck of a lot of time get my crap together. There's no way I'd have been able to make it to Otakon 2011 (house-building project taking up tons of money and time, work responsibilities, general lack-of-money and [wo]manchildness on my part, not to mention my schooling situation), but by 2012 the house should be long finished, the funds will have normalized themselves (for the most part), I'll be in college (hopefully? >>) and the family will likely be more supportive of my taking a summer vacation. Plus, who knows? We might even be able to get more people on board. *looks at you, Aurora, Chozo, European OSC'ers...*

Plus, 2012, you know what that means? We can have OSC's official End-Of-The-World Celebration! >:3 Okay, it'll be six months early, but still. XD

Most likely going to Ota with 2 other friends whom need me to manage money and all that stuff for them... they are hopeless!

We are driving because one of them got their license and the other along with me will be getting our permits soon (I could get mine right this second but I'm just lazy I guess ._.; ). ~250 mile drive (~400 Km) from Da Burgh to Baltimore so I would be one hell of a trip for us high-school students :V!

The total for the trip would be $1,497 when combined so cut between three of us makes it $499 each (This is on the bare minimum to survive at Ota) which is really a pain (we all have good paying jobs though so saving up the money isn't really a problem).

So if anyone else is going (I noticed Pizza is going!), we could meet up if you'd like!
