Title: Our childhood cartoons
Post by: Silentbob on November 03, 2007, 05:23:42 PM
I was messing around on Youtube trying to find an intro to an old cartoon I watched a long time ago, and I got to thinking that it had been so long since I had seen any of them.  So i decided to look up those I remembered.  Here's what I came up with:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEsHUel04dY   Everybody knows this guy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quzY7ONePM4   And She-Ra, of course.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPHIfCstm5A   Ooh, BraveStarr.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI0FbYe3lRE   Priceless.  :P
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0aTPc66lfk   I always liked the intro theme.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMNZqRH2n7A   Another one.  Kinda vague memory, but I remember the theme.

The series below are some of the ones I watched during our 5-year stay in Spain.  Si, si, ya se que vais a decir, el castellano iberico os suena raro.  ;144
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgQISG6u99k   Candy, Candy, some shoujo series. This was actually my very first anime.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoSbRLF0cKg   La Aldea del Arce, known as "Maple Town Monogatari" in Japanese. (Is this furry? :P )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0AZ7dCodtU   Ulysses 31, a french cartoon, woulda made a cool anime I think.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnXrtgxNycY   Los Diminutos, known as The Littles in English
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AIF167Zzis   Gummy Bears, always a classic.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otIyP4hZS7Q   Mofli, el último koala, kinda sweet Spanish cartoon.  :3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uoa8HOV0Lbc   El Gato Isidoro, known as Heathcliff in English.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbPixUAer6I   Don't remember much from this one, only the opening theme.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12r56z8CJD4   Dr.Slump. You probably recognize the art style. (In case you were wondering, the dubbing is in Catalán, one of the regional languages of Spain. We lived in the region, so some TV channels had transmissions in that language)

There are lots more of course, but frankly, too many to list.   :P

So, what are yours?

Now this could be considered furry. http://youtube.com/watch?v=bpNOLIHP14s
Alfred J.Kwak http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7U3NrQQtc8&NR=1
Dr snuggles, though it was in finnish and with a different intromusic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J98Mle_g2Fs&NR=1
Nils Holgersson http://youtube.com/watch?v=AzCygWJD4Og

Yeah, thats some of them.
Not to count Totoro, Porco rosso and Ginga nagareboshi gin which were kinda my first animes.

Hmmm.

Anyway the ones I really remember.

Sailor Moon (who hasn't watched this at one point in time?)

Dragon Ball Z

Reboot (does this count as a "Cartoon"? technicly it was CG.)

Samurai Pizza cats

Tom and Jerry

Alot of the early Cartoon Network shows that don't air anymore.
(Sheep in the big city, whatever happened to robot jones, Ed edd and eddy, ect.)

And "My neighbor Totoro" was quite possibly the very first anime I ever saw. (and since I've grown into the anime lover that I am today)

Also, thanks to a recent visit to youtube. I can you say I've seen Shin-chan in three different languages. (english japanese and spanish)

Yes, I was a "Pokemaniac" back in my childhood.
(In fact I still am, to a certain extent. IE: Still buying and liking the games.)
Deep down in my heart, I'll always be a fan of Pokemon.

*Probes his mind for other shows he watched when he was younger*

Well, there's

Goof Troop
Tiny toons

I didn't watch much TV as a wee one. The only two animations I remember seeing are Disney's Robin Hood (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O7LXy7Wrv4) and Chiisana Pengin: Lolo no Boken. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNc2kly-3h4)

Yeah! I really miss the original "Alvin and the Chipmunks" cartoon! (it was one of my favorite shows)

I don't know if the newly-released movie is good or not (although some of my classmates have seen it and like it) but I feel it will never compare to the original!

I have watched a great variety of cartoons in my childhood. A collection of cartoon serieses that spanned decades, from the 1930's to the 1990's (with the cartoons from the 1940's + 1950's era being my favorite, with "Looney Toons", "Merrie Melodies", "Tom + Jerry" and cartoons by Tex Avery!)

I really really miss the older original serieses made by Cartoon Network: the "Cartoon Cartoons" ("Dexter's Lab", "Powerpuff Girls", "Cow and Chicken", "Whatever Happened to Robot Jones?", "Mike, Lu and Og", "Johnny Bravo", "Sheep in the Big City" and "Time Squad"!)

And how is this for a blast from the past? Recently on Cartoon Network debuted the show "The Mr. Men Show" which I thought was a new show at first until I recognized some of the characters- I suddenly remembered watching one of the older versions of "The Mr. Men Show", which I remember watching on Small World (a Cartoon Network spinoff aimed towards younger children, lasted from the mid-90's to the early 2000's)

Speaking of cartoon network and old cartoons and today, I heard they just started airing a new "george of the jungle" and i hear the executive producer or something is the daughter of the late original creator of "George of the jungle"

BraveStarr? Oshiâ€"

I haven't seen that in ages.

Anyway, mine:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AWFRHduENIU - C.O.P.S.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hydiAR_XAd0 - Macron I
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Oo0FVs9KvrQ - Ghostbusters (the Filmation oneâ€"I don't think I ever watched DiC's version, not to say that I thought it better, I just probably never heard about it)
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NqGQyMF5a_0 - Street Sharks
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=36NgK-vJc1M - Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YUcEElPqSfM - Swat Kats

I did watch Extreme Ghostbusters later - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=wwHD7Y_Duso - as well as Godzilla - The Series - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=aQENCPSCVjg. I watched Reboot when it was on, and I watched it right up until the end of the second series when they had that musical thing. I didn't watch the next season, because I didn't know there was one, but since I've heard it left people hanging, I'd rather not be disappointed. :P

Inspector Gadget, Beast Wars (kind of, though now I don't like it so much), Rescue Rangers, Tailspin, Ed, Edd & Eddy, Freakazoid, Quack Pack, The Tick, Garfield and Friends, Biker Mice From Mars and The Ren & Stimpy Show are more of the ones I remember from "the good old days". There's one more that I can't remember for the life of me. It was some kind of animated variety show.

Invader Zim, Rocko's Modern Life, The Angry Beavers, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Samurai Jack, Batman Beyond and Batman: TAS were all great, though they came later.

My favourite north american cartoon has always been Beast wars fallowed by Reboot and Shadow raiders. I never really liked any other non-anime cartoons. Though I guess the old spiderman cartoons, the 90's spider man, x-men, x-men: evoloution, teen titans and justice league/Justice league: unlimited are okay. Oh and teenage mutant ninja turtles both the 80's version and the new one. (though personaly I always preferred the movies)

I grew up on a few things, including Reboot, Sonic the Hedgehog and the Super Mario Bros. Super show. I also VAGUELY remember Inspector Gadget. And I was a die-hard Dangermouse fangirl, for some reason...

I forgot about most of the episodes, but that's what replay value is all about. 8D

Pokemon, Digimon and such came later.

That's because Spike TV's idea of adult appeal is gay jokes and poorly-written double entendre (is that single entendre?)... because, you know, there weren't any adults watching Ren & Stimpy before Spike brought it back.  John K's not off the hook either, he didn't have to agree to sell out.

If you had announced your intentions to purchase the box set, I could've saved you the heartbreak.  I think they still sell box sets without the extra eps, and even if they didn't, my warning might've prevented you from watching them.

Sorry Xeon... at least you didn't see them when they were being aired ><;.
Title: Our childhood cartoons
Post by: Xeon on January 15, 2010, 06:25:20 AM
Actually I bought it knowing full well of the EXTRA episodes thinking that it wouldn't be THAT BAD. Of course I was proven wrong.

Shouldn't John K get the full blunt of the blame though?. I remember reading an interview of him saying how the old network *Can't remember the name* was preventing him from making his true vision and was excited how he can finally make Ren and Stimpy the way he wanted to. Excuse me if I'm wrong though.

QuoteSorry Xeon... at least you didn't see them when they were being aired ><;.
I'm sadly not spared of that either. Ren and Stimpy still air here on Nick at midnight and sometimes you can see bits of the extra episode before the network switches it back to the proper episode. Now I can't enjoy an episode of it without thinking of 2 gay retards.

I should have bought Mr.Bean *Non-animated* instead >_>.

*EDIT*And before you ask.. why the heck am I watching Nickelodean..... THEIRS NOTHING GOOD ON TV (#゚Ð"゚).

Post by: IanDanKilmaster on January 15, 2010, 12:10:42 PM
Now that I think about it, you're probably right, I can actually recall that interview with him now.  Of course, afterwards he tried to make it sound as if he were coerced to make the show as it was by Spike.  Billy West (the original voice of Stimpy and the voice of Ren from season 2 onwards) said he turned down an invitation to work on the new R&S because he knew how bad it would be (of course, it might have more to do with his own grudge with John K).

Yeah, you should've bought Mr. Bean... or you could've just avoided watching those extra eps :p.

Hmm... childhood cartoons...

I remember watching Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, the Jetsons, Speed Racer and all those other vintage cartoons Cartoon Network used to air; Dexter's Laboratory, Pinky and the Brain, Danny Phantom, Fairly Oddparents, As Told By Ginger, The Weekenders, The Tick and a bunch more I can't recall by name at the moment.

Most of these OLD cartoons you westerners speak of still air here regularly *Pink Panther,Recess,Dexters Laboratory* and some are even treated as new cartoons *The Tick*. Does that make our TV provider awesome or t3h suck? *Sailor Moon was banned here for a while back in the olden days ~-~*.

They do here if you have Boomerang (CN's classic station) or Nicktoons (Nick's whatever-the-hell-we-feel-like station).

I would vote the former ^^b.

Well, you can say somebody, be it Spike or John K, just didn't get it.

Speaking of old cartoons, CN has started playing Tom and Jerry on its regular lineup.  I think they're playing Looney Toons as well.
