I knew it existed also Nation-tans, which represent anime style girls from all nations, but this idea of food girls it is very funny!

Those are weird and pretty funny but make me wonder... what the heck are people going to make personifications of next?! And I've also seen Mecha Musume, flower-tans, furniture-tans, convienience store-tans, and even a Final Fantasy Potion-tan!

Flower-tans already exist AFAIK! ;001

And also some furnitures as Coca Cola-Tan (I just believe it MUST exist somewhere) and if not CocaCola something similar just exist for japanese products...  ;hi  ;014  ;018

I become hungry after those pictures... but what's next? I have a weird idea: maybe subject-Tans...(Math-Tan, History-Tan... o_o )

Uhh... What does "AFAIK" mean? I've heard that before but never found out what it means! ^^;

Soda-tans? That's possible! Pepsi-tan and Coca Cola-tan would be rivals (IIRC) willing to fight to the death to prove who is more popular, (also Coca Cola-tan has to fight a lot of rumors) Dr.Pepper-tan would have 23 sides to her personality...

And subject-tans are also possible too! Math-tan would work side-by-side with Science-tan and Computer Programming-tan, History-tan doesn't care about the future and prefers to know and tell about the past...

Nice ideas, and I wonder how those subject-Tans look like... and AFAIK is "As far as I know".

Do C-tan, C++-tan, C#-tan have anything related to C Chan?  ;003

Programming Languages-Tan? What about...
1. Fortran-Tan

3. ALGOL-Tan
4. BASIC-Tan
5. Pascal-Tan
6. Logo-Tan

Huh,....  '__'

Fast food-tans,... well aside from being unhealthy and "globalizing", not sure if I'd dig them.  I know they'd be cute (but what -tan isn't?), but wouldn't they also be, like,.... very very short...?  Ã,¬vÃ,¬

*sigh*

No Soda-tan support either.  ^__^;
I ain't giving those "chemical" companies anymore publicity than they deserve.  `v'
(you can do some very interesting things with Coke/Pepsi besides drinking it)

Subject-tans are interesting -- there's one floating around Waka right now, in fact.  ^^

QuoteThere should be a becon egg and cheese biscut tan, her and c chan would be BEST friends!

[imitating Invader Zim]  Dammmmmmn YOUUUUUUU!!  >o<
But no, that's a cute idea....
We can make her halal, so she'd be beef instead.  Ã,¬___Ã,¬

QuoteBesides Computer Programming-tan, I'd like to see Programming Languages-tan too.

Java-tan = drink tea?
Tea...?  '___'

,........................okay.  ^^;
I suppose, when you get down to technicalities, coffee IS an herbal tea.
It's essentially "tea of coffee bean".  ^^;

Haha!  C-tan....  ^___^
Yeah!  I'm written in C!!!  ^v^

But yeah, no,... no relation.  ^v^;

C, C+, C++ are used to make computers.  ^__^
I'm just used to make artwork and pork products.  ^___^;

2. Assembly-Tan
3. ALGOL-Tan
4. BASIC-Tan
5. Pascal-Tan
6. Logo-Tan

?

It's no OS-tan, but I did sort of do a Logo mascot...  -v-

(http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/10570/C64-tan_and_PET-tan.png)

PETchan is holding up "KameLOGO", the flying 3-appendaged turtle.  ^___^;
Will be better featured in a future drawing.  ^__^

Also, during my vacation, I also thought of another interesting -tan concept.

Normally I hate to branch out into other things since I'm already spread out with projects as it is.  ^__^

But I think Kana-tans would be a very efficient design concept....

They'd be cute, educational, easy to draw, MORE than enough to share between artists, and would help Anime fans and otakus practice Japanese.  ^__^

Hiragana-tans and Katakana-tans would be the established characters, and can be depicted as simple chibis more often than not.  -v-

Kanji-tans, however, should be more elaborate.  ^___^

No fair, I've been on vacation....  ;___;

Besides, the page demonstrates precisely the reason why we need Kana-tans.  The casual forum goer sees nothing but a sea of indecipherable Japanese.  ^___^
(before he actually gets to the romanized names for the Programming Language-tans).  ^^;

FYI, SleepyD is linking to a site with a ton of Programming Language-tans.  ^___^
One happens to be a true to goodness LOGO-tan, and [surprise] she's on a turtle.  ^^;

Pizza-tan,

Actually, there is a Pizza-tan. She's another character created by Futaba and she looks like 2K-tan but with red hair, no glasses and wears a dress that looks like a pizza. Her favorite thing to do is push people (she's especially after 2K-tan) and is one of the OS-tan wannabes like Taeko/WE-tan, Yamada and Komepo

Ice cream-tans would be cool! (pun somewhat intended) I could picture them wearing ice cream cones as hats and wearing poofy minidresses that look like ice cream scoops. ^^

The Cereal-tans would most likely be based off the cereal the represent's mascots and the well-known ones like Fruity Pebbles-tan, Cocoa Pebbles-tan, and Fruit Loops-tan also have knock-offs that want to be just like them (their knock-offs are Fruity Rice, Cocoa Rice, and Fruit Rounds) that they have to be aware of.

And I'd like to see a Ramen-tan and a Chicken Fajita-tan! :D

Somewhere in the depths of topicless thread you will find the awnsers you seek, but it is a perilis journey, you may not come back alive.  Or if you do, you will be changed by the horror of it.

But Ill say this again, as Ive said with the aviation tans and a few others.  Simply drawing a girl with bits of food stuck to her and calling her tan is no good -_- Think about it.  some of the best OS-Tans dont visualy have anything to do with what they represent.  Like 3.1 sama and doskitty,   other then the ribbon pin and the collar you wouldnt know who they are, but there personalitys come from how people viewed that system and that is what makes them who they are.  The way 3.1 goes now where without dos,  the age of her clothes to represent the age of the system (compairitivly) her expressionless face and emotions to show how 3.1 lacked much in the way of letting the user express themselves (backgrounds, theams yadayada)

Personaly, I think things are starting to get out of hand.  To many objects are simply being made into tans by combining things visualy and putting no thought into it.   Of all the other tans to come out the only ones that seemed to have the same amout of personality were the country tans. like merikan being the richest girl on her block, with a super hero complex and a strong sence of justice, but often belives her form of justic is right for everyone.   they didnt have to make her shaped like the USA to get across who she was.   Honestly.. people need to think a bit more before carelessly making a new tan..

Tho... Picture this:  MRE tan!  A girl in drab brown clothes(drab brown MRE bag), maybe dressed in fatuiges/cammies or something because she always out with the troops giving a them a pick me up when they are tired!  She also prolly wears alot of clothes, layers and layers of them complaining shes always cold (because MRES are 90 percent of the time eaten cold dispite the included chem heater, and also because MREs are known for exesive amounts of packaging.  a package of short bread cookies would be wrapped in sealed pouch inside the main sealed pouch, so effectivly being triple wrapped) Probobly has short almot boyish hair(again due to the lack of pizzaz to the packaging), and come to think of it she would be a tomboy cus shes always out hanging with the guys. Shes small but shes got alot of energy for her size (MREs dispite how little food they have in them volume wise, contain a metric shit ton of calories so keep you going) and loves to help out those in need(cus MREs are often given to disater victims)!  Dispite this tho, anyone thats been around her for some time starts to dislike her as he is a little too much to handle for a long time(gah, have you ever had to survive off of MREs for more then a week?  Blegh). She also looks very young for her actual age, and people are always shocked when she tells them how old she really is (ive gotten MREs that were over 6 years old before -_-)

Good point! I'll admit to not being very fond of all the weird personifications like Mecha Musume, the food-tans, etc. although I tried to consider some ideas. They can be amusing to see sometimes  but they just don't have the charm and the quality of thought put into them like the OS-tans have. BTW, what are MREs? But I can assume they have a buttload of preservatives if you've recieved MREs that old though!
Title: FoodGirls Food-Tans
Post by: Exa on December 16, 2006, 05:59:25 PM
It seems that there is a point where those personifications fail being personal. The number of tans grows fast, so it's impossible to create unique traits for everyone. Food-tans are not so finished, the idea of Mecha Musume is interesting, but in that case, design is more important than characteristics (I think)... OS-tans are still the most complete tans.

Actually MREs are Meals Ready to Eat.  they are the pre packaged iradiated long life food that the US Military uses as rations and humanitarian relife.  A person can survive off of two of these small meals a day for months and keep up their strength due to how fortified they are.  However the food isnt very good as I said and after a while you dont even want to eat your two a day...  they come with everything you need,   a main meal, some kind of fruit usualy, a snack, some crackers with either peanutbutter, jelly, cheese, or jalapano cheese, a beverage mix, and a few other things.  They also come with a small chemical heater that alows you you cook your food using only water.

(http://www.wildfirenews.com/photos/mre.jpg)

its so hard to find the "or something" so I go with a rock...

(http://www.browniepointsblog.com/wordpress/wp-images/2006/06/mre_inside.jpg)
a better view of the contents...

However, while im on the subject. MREs have spawned a new form of shinnigans, the MRE BOMB.  simply take the flameless chem heater and remove the chemical compond inside. take that powder and put it inside of a plastic soda bottle. collect up the mini tabasco bottles every one else has (they all come with one) and dump them into a small container.  Punch a few small holes in the bottle so it dosent expand too quickly... sneak up on your enemies unsuspecting tent or humvee they are trying to sleep in and dump the tabasco in the bottle, cap it, shake well and then drop in and move away quickly.  A gas mask might also help if using it in enclosed areas.  the tabasco will react with the chemical, venting tabasco filled steam burning and iritating the eyes throat and lungs of anyone who breathes it, and as long as you didnt poke too big of a hole in the bottle, it will expand rapidly and after a few seconds explode covering them in tabasco and filling their tent compleatly with the gas.

do not do this in areas where people are on edge or have weapons, as the exploding bottle does sound like a gunshot or distant explosion.

Post by: MisterCat on January 13, 2007, 08:22:15 PM
During my military service I spent a year in a combat zone; and every so often we'd be issued "C Rations" due to food shortages at the (lousy) mess hall.  Actually, they weren't C Rations at all:

QuoteThe "Meal, Combat, Individual," or MCI, replaced C Rations in 1958. The MCI was very similar to the C Rations in concept and packaging but had more nutritionally balanced meals and greater variety. Because of the similarities it was often called "C Rations" even if it was technically a new ration. MCI was the main field ration used during the Vietnam War and was still in service until the 1980s....MCI rations continued in use until replaced by the Meal, Ready to Eat (MRE) in the early 1980s.

There were, in theory, three different menu series; but we always got this one:

Meat.  Either beans and wieners; or spaghetti and meatballs; or beefsteak, potatoes and gravy; or ham and Lima beans; or meatballs and beans.
Crackers (4)
Cheese Spread, Processed.  Either caraway or pimento.
Either Fruit Cake, or Pecan Roll, or Pound Cake
Spoon, Plastic
Salt
Pepper
Coffee, Instant
Sugar
Creamer, Non-dairy
Gum, 2 Chicklets
Cigarettes, 4-pack.  Either Winston, or Marlboro, or Salem, or Pall Mall, or Camel, or Chesterfield, or Kent, or Lucky Strike, or Kool.
Matches, Moisture Resistant
Toilet Paper

We unanimously considered this bill of fare to be superior to anything the mess hall ever served.  It's my view that Air Force mess halls were the worst, Navy the best and Army somewhere in between.  I never ate in a Coast Guard or Marine Corps mess hall, so I can't rate their chow.

:smoke:

Post by: CaptBrenden on January 14, 2007, 02:33:59 AM
are you bloody serios?!?!?!  2 deployments by boat and several navalstations later I cant say Ive ever had worse military chow in my life then from the Navy.  Mostly because the seamen are too busy arguing over who has to do what then to care about the food.

Marine Corps chow isnt very good either.  -_-

However.. Ive eaten at several Airforce and Army chow halls, and they are usually above par.  I mean, relaly above par.  One I would have concidered a resturaunt if you didnt have to wait in line for the food o.o  Plus, the airforce dosent really eat MRE's, they get little lunnch boxes with deli sammiches and gab bags of chips some apple sauce ups and the like.  Everytime I fly airforce we get something like that, or have to wait in on of their staging areas.  and as for army, we fight over who gets to ride Adriver to the army FOBs so we can get a chance to eat at their chow facilitys over ours!

Tho.. a note on the  MREs... Yes, every case comes with a few vegetarian MRES.  They are horrible.  We will have several marines sitting around complaining about how hungery they are, and there will be 6 cases of MREs next to them, with all the meals exept the vegeterian ones eaten. Seriosly.. they are grosse.  If those are open.. its cus someone was picking them over for the skittles or the peanutbutter in them, or needed a spoon.

as for the "kosher" meals... I have never seen one. EVER. Nor heard of them.  A few years ago when that tsunami hit Indonesia, we sat in the belly of the ship opening every last pork MRE and taking out the pork bits before duct taping them back up to give out as disaster relife.

3 deployment in Iraq handing out food aid.. we simply get a breif as to what meals not go give out.

I bet they exist.. but Ive never seen them.  Prolly a seriose supply issue
Title: Aha!
Post by: MisterCat on January 14, 2007, 03:15:06 AM
Well, Captain, my experience with military food is from 40 years ago; so that's plenty of time for some service branches to get things gastronomically right and for others to get it wrong.  My brother was in the Army during the early 1960s; and his view was that it all depended upon who the mess chief or mess sergeant was:  Some of them gave a damn about the quality of what their men were preparing and how they were preparing it, whilst others did not.

Nowadays, with civilians having a presence in military mess-hall staffing, I've no idea what's what food-wise.  For example, I've heard that the kitchen police (KP) detail has been eliminated for military personnel; but I don't know if that's true for all the armed forces or just a particular branch.

Mind, I hated KP as much as the next guy!  My solution to the problem, whenever I got saddled with KP, was to sleep in and show up at the last minute ââ,¬â€ just to take the pots-and-pans job ââ,¬â€ rather than get to the mess hall early in hopes of signing up for a supposedly "easy" job, like re-filling the milk dispensers.

The bakers and cooks ââ,¬â€ and most of all the mess sergeant ââ,¬â€ left us pots-and-pans guys alone, because we supposedly had the hardest KP job; and they'd give the "easy" job guys a lot of grief.  I'd just slug away with my scouring powder and steel wool in relative peace!

Well yeah.. on bases its pretty much now run be civillians, but the quality comes from that the branch, and what they pay for.

However.. KP as you called it.. has been renamed to Mess duty.  Same thing, diffent name. Just like shell shock became PTSD -_-
However you only get it on ship.. as civilians arnt alowed on ship the cooks might ACTUALLY have to do something.

I had my fill of mess duty too.. and actually i dealed with it pretty much exactly the same.. however I turend the most hated job into the most skate.. in the period of a day.  after 4 months of dishes piled up to the celing filled with caked on food and seamen sitting around taking breaks every 5 minutes and not getting anything done, I colenteered to get off the line to scrub them. God I hated the line.. everyone gives you a look like you killed their kitten when you give the protion your soppose to.  THrough hard work I took care of all the back log, and then washed them as they came in faster then they could bring them too me.. soon I was sitting around like I was on break because there was nothing to do.  I think i got a meritorius mast for that.. and a few days of holiday routine from that...

I strongly agree with Captbrendn, an anime style mascot is one thing but an actual -tan is something completely different.
Tans' personalities and appearance are a huge reference to what they represent, with mascots it's usually a logo or some other thing that can immediately noticed by the way they look. A lot of people seem to be confusing these 2 facts.

Seems that american-jew soldiers should purchase pre-cooked meals with reduced prices apart from standard MRE.

Thanks, Captain, for your observations on the mess-hall scene these days!  Truth be told, I ate better when I was in the Air Force than I do now.

Regarding food-tans, maybe there could be a military-service food-tan ââ,¬â€ or one for each branch of the armed forces?  That would be an interesting project!

I think it's a great idea!  Of course, I've never eaten one of those meals; but if the older rations are anything to go by, I'm sure  MRE-tan would have her bad points as well as her good ones.  I'll bet the gals and guys on active duty would appreciate MRE-tan's persona.

A MRE-tan? Brings back memories of eating MRE's brought back by my dad after he served as a UN Peacekeeper in Iraq a couple of years ago. They make a perfect replacement for cup noodles when you don't hav time to cook, or just plain lazy (having a month worth of MRE's means I swore off cup noodles for quite some time) ^^;; Although I must say as someone who cooks his own food that MRE's don't taste that bad; some of them, like this Jambalaya rice one, was delicious IMHO. And then there was the powdered milkshake, just pour cold milk into the pouch, seal, shake and presto, my favorite of the MRE food XD

You should add one of MRE-tan's special powers: heating up when exposed to water =D

egads.. o_o i think if I had posted that at work, everyone would have thought you were clinicly nuts!! Oy i get sick just thinking about jambalaya!  the only ones a that wi would call "good" are the ones when they didnt try anything complicated.  Such as ravioli beef stew or spaggeti with meat sauce!  the crazy stuff.. like contry captain chicken, jambalaya, chicken teriaki... oy they turn my stomach. you cant take fine food, iradiate it and seal it way and expect it to be good agian.

but shakes are good. make you fat tho.. read the calories on that thing.. jebus its a meal in and of itself

tho... thats kinda funny, heating up when wet XD

Well, if you can't take most of the MRE food, at least there's the included mandatory tootsie rolls XD

Frankly, the only thing I didn't like about the MRE's was the powdered orange juice (which is basically just orange food coloring  ;020 )

well, the trick is to eat them with your boys.  then as you eat you swap them with your buddies to get the components you want.  Like say you want a spiced pound cake... your ass out of luck no one gives that up.  bad example.. say you like the porkchop in gavey.  but you were the last to the case and ended up with jambalya.. swapem!

plus, you get enough, you experiment so see what you can make with them.   Like you take the chili mac, melt the japano cheese, crunch up a cracker and mix it all togeather! mmm good

worst comes to worst, you can do like some guys do,  take EVERYTHING and mix it all togeather reall good in the brown bag it comes with and hope the unidentifiable goop is digestable.

A boodle bag of sorts? I don't think I can stomach that ^^;; I'd end up with a sweet/sour/salty/bitter/spicy/chocolatey milk flavored concoction that'll shut down all of my taste buds ^^;;

And I wouldn't give up that spice pound cake even if anyone pays me to XD

I didn't know the situation with the spiced pound cake was that bad... although I wouldn't know, out of the 30 MRE's I recieved, about a dozen had spiced pound cake IIRC... yum...

-_- you lucky bastard.  We have gotten into grappling matches over those things.  There are a few other gold items out there but thats pretty close to the top.  there are also a few that NO ONE wants.  like just about any vegiterian MRE

Alfredo you say? Dunno about the other contents, but I would've liked to have that pasta alfredo (Im under the bias that ANY form of Pasta Alfredo whether cooked, not cooked, uncooked, overcooked or undercooked is a good Alfredo XD)
