Title: Most underrated OS-tans?
Post by: Lily1027 on April 22, 2026, 11:28:02 AM
Who do you think are the most underrated OS-tans?
I think the most underrated OS-tans are Claude Madobe, Ruri Azumi, Manager (the guy in the official Madobe Nanami ad.), Moseko and Gigeko.

Very much agreed on Moseko! XP MCE-tan has been a favorite of mine since I first saw her.

MS-DOS-tan is also criminally underrated IMO. Both the school outfit & EGL-style designs are super cute.

Also agreeing on Moseko. She's had some stellar fan art through the years, but seems quite forgotten in the recent times.
I've been kinda thinking of putting MCE on my 2002 project PC, if it gets resurrected.

I also think that!

Good luck! I also had (still have but it is probably done) Windows XP Home Edition laptop without an adapter, one day I bought the adapter to it, charged it and it worked!

I also do whenever I have some Windows, I always set up as wallpaper an OS-tan that is a personification of that Windows.

I also think the reason why some OS-tans are underrated is because the OSes they personifities are not popular or not so many people uses them.

MCE especially was quite niche OS. Lot of people who used regular XP had already the tools to do the same exact things as MCE was built for. I remember streaming TV broadcast over internet in VLC back in XP days. And VLC could do all the movie playback anyways.

Moseko and Gigeko I def think are a bit underrated, and I love their designs.

I also think the Futaba Seven-tan is not nearly as popular as she could be simply because Nanami exists.

If you want to talk about heavily underrated though, most OS-kuns get a pretty short end of the stick. 95-kun, Me-kun and Mac OS9-kun I think all deserve a bit more love. I love 95-kun so much.

I used to do this so committedly. Now days I just have all my OS-tan wallpapers shuffled and I see them all. It used to make more sense when I was using XP, 7 and 8.1 on different machines. Now most things I use are 10, so I include all my -tan and -kun wallpapers regardless of if they fit the OS.

I worked IT for neighborhood friends back in the day and there were so many MCE installs on family computers, Dell and HP especially. I don't think most of them realized it was different from Home Edition.
I never understood why MCE was a separate edition. But if you look at all the editions of Vista, it's clear Microsoft back then had some kind of obsession with making new editions.

Obaba is greatly popular in the Eastern fandom but doesn't get much attention in the Western fandom by comparison

And yeah I also think that the Futaba Seven-tan is not nearly as popular because of Nanami, but I see that Futaba Seven-tan is popular among the Futaba channel (most likely because she originates from here lol) while Nanami is more popular among people who enjoys Madobe OS-tans.

And yeah! OS-kuns are super underrated!

I also agree with that!

3.1-sama is really cute, definitely one of the characters that got me into OS-tan fandom.

I don't know about "most underrated", but my favorite underrated OS-tan is IRIX-tan.

If we're counting fan-made -tans I wouldn't know where to start, tbh... ^^;

3.1-sama and MS-DOS-tan definitely agree.

IBSYS-tan, UMES-tan, and BESYS-tan.  Any of the mechanical/hydraulic -tans. (For fan stuff)
