I think she's quite attractive, even without the outfit fanservice and giant chest. In fact, I prefer her to the blatant-fanservice-r-us fanmade versions, to be honest.

Wow, this is pretty awesome.
A so called "official" 7-tan.

Going to be interesting to see if the design sticks.

Seems at least the japanese chapter of M$ have caught on to things...the right way, this time around.

Let's forget about THAT and pretend it never happened, guys, k? ಠ_ಠ ^-^;

I really hope it does. There's already one fanart of her on Pixiv, and the reaction on nijiura.ath.cx is mostly positive. It seems that most of the fanartists are waiting until the actual release of the system so that the have a full view to work from.

NejinOniwa: "THAT" being?

The horror has been, to some extent, recorded in this (http://ostan-collections.net/topic-757-40.html) thread. Read, possibly google for moar, try avoiding killing yourself before you can bathe your eyes on proper imagery again, and do never speak of it again.

Oh the horror.... THE HORROR OF THOSE LEGO RIPOFFS!!

Glad THAT's over with. And this one sure is likable. Now, if only they were as good as have these uploaded to the Internet.

Hmm... I wonder if they'll continue the tradition of making a "tan" for each version though. Oh well... let the HUGE AMOUNTS OF HENTAI COME! (as it happens with every single anime character that ever exists).

Well, yeah. At least we have something to say "THIS IS OFFICIAL, FAGS, GET OVER WITH IT" about when the newfags whine. -.-

But well, the designers obviously did their homework in Our department before coming up with things, so I'd say this is a win-win.

Added after 2 minutes:

AND HAY. GUISE.

Official mascotry...

...perhaps...

...might mean a chance of other officially endorsed products.

MANGOS AND ANIMUS A'COMAN.

And hey, with M$ backing them, they're not exactly gonna have a flimsy budget to throw around, so if it comes (and knowing how much japanese business listens to 2ch it WILL, quite certainly) it will be qualitative FO SHO.

(well, in theory that works at least -w-; )

Not just cute... it's the only officially supported Windows 7-tan --or rather Nanami-- and likely even the Windows... save for that horrible team of el cheapo LEGO ripoffs (the Source Fource). Yeah, that POS group of crap art is still alive... much to our dismay.

By the way... I realized...

TH FREAKING WINDOWS TANS NOW HAVE A FAMILY NAME!! MADOBE FAMILY FTW!!!!

Same haircut, same jaket/vest thingie.

Post by: Aurora Borealis on September 27, 2009, 11:22:28 AM
I also see the resemblance between her and Hacchan.

Still, she's got a good character design but I'm actually disappointed that there's a 100% official Windows 7-tan design.

The OS-tan phenomenon has for years been 100% fanmade, by the OS-tan fans, for the OS-tan fans and to me it just doesn't seem right that there's an official and company-sponsored OS-tan character all of a sudden!

I can find other 3 designs too, btw owO, my favorites are official and that look as XPpro...

OH. MY. GOD.  NUKER APPROVES! ;036

An official 7-tan? Drawn in actual anime style instead of being a lego rip-off? Borrowing some great design ideas from the OS-tan community itself? And voiced by Nana Mizuki?

That's just overkill man.

And the name thing is just genius. Windows family name FTW!

The temptation of buying a copy of 7 from MS Japan an then downloading a language pack is strong, but Ultimate costs waaay too much for me. I guess I'll just wait until MS releases the special content separately.

Obviously option a) for me, though I agree with Aurora on the fan-made thing. This is gonna be a big change.

Considering what wrath 2ch would bring down on them if they DID, I don't think they fukken dare to.

Sure, Nanamado will be copyrighted as a program, but the design? I mean, srsly, I dunno. But I don't think so, at least.

(besides, japanese law for that kind of stuff is at best extremely vague, and at worst as full of loopholes as a swiss cheese - why else do you think we have doujins, etc, anyway? oi, oi.)

..true. i'm just worried that, due to cute corporate sponsorship like nana-tan, we will be limited in our creativity of creation. the new -tans will already be decided for us. and only 2 OSes have survived with multiple representation, XPMCE, who is barely known, and, of course, the infamous vista. -____-;

Just because this OS-tan got official support, I wouldn't guarantee that all future Windows-tans will be given an OS mascot.
Title: Nanami Madobe: finally, an (100%) official 7-tan!
Post by: Aurora Borealis on October 12, 2009, 04:18:39 PM
I agree. I think Nanami was created as a marketing ploy to boost the Windows 7 hype since it's marketed as a very revolutionary OS, or at least vastly better than Vista. It's possible that only Windows 7 will have an official OS-tan.

We know for sure that MS wouldn't bother making mascots of the older Windows OSes, so Vistan and her predecessors are 'safe' from 'replacement'.

You think that MS wants to advertise Vista, much less XP, in ANY way now that they have 7? They were already trying to get rid of XP so people would buy Vista, and because few reviewers liked Vista, I think they're trying to get rid of it in the same way. As for the others, they're not for sale by retailers any longer, so why bother make an "official" -tan for them?

and then we'll build em' and crash em' by installing windows. ^^

sooooo.....DOES ANYONE HAVE AN ISO FILE OF WINDOWS 7 I'M DESPERATE AT THIS POINT AND I CAN'T TORRENT

Which way are you going, top down or bottom up?
(You get extra points if you have a clue what I'm talking about...
You had to pick a thread which had someone in it who ACTUALLY knows about strong AI's)

Are you talking about intelligence evolution process?

I've been reading too many tech articles about lots of things... and something like this came, only it was on how to make the perfect tablet OS. Turns out that going from neither end was a good idea... at least for tablets.

Why start from an end, when you can just take it all in one fell swoop?

From what i hear the really difficult thing ain't to make a smart AI, it's to make a human AI that can make mistakes and have feelings, just like a human. Artificial clumsyness i think it was called.

It's also pretty hard to build a computer powerful enough to house it and allow it to operate properly...we ain't quantum enough for that yet.

True, computers have become very intelligent the last few years though. I hope that in maybe 20-30 years a full AI will be created ^_^

Oh, it won't be that long. I'd estimate at most 15 years, earlier if I can get my hands on the hardware easily. In any case, we're on the fast track -w-

Well, GET SMARTER in that case? And integrated systems will be a necessity in the near future anyway, to keep up with stuff. In the end it'll come down to your own mindset, you know?

I see you are the "robot apocalypse" kind of paranoid? Uhm.. yeah... I don't mind robot apocalypse if it happens and I get to kill myself painlessly (throw myself into the sun at light speed).

Anyways... I want to have a real "Madobi OS" with me... even if not with a robot body.

Throwing yourself into the sun at light speed will be quick but very painful me thinks, since ur atoms will get teared to shreds and transformed into pure energy XD E = Mc^2  :3 Anyway, on topic: I'd also like a real OS-tan, it would be awesome. It would get very frustrating to keep em happy though.
Me want moar RAM can i haz? :3
No, i need it for the game i run atm.
please master!!
Ok here, have some RAM, but that's all you get untill i quit playing!

20 mins later

Can i haz moar RAM master? :3

Lightspeed doesn't necessarily tear you apart in any way, as long as you take necessary precautions (and don't accelerate like a iron capsule in the LHC)...so no MC^2 worth of energy here. -w-;

Indeed, it would take a lot of programming to make sure that any sort of synthetic being is kept satisfied...then again you could just play dirty and insert a function that automatically keeps the thing on the happy side of the scale, so yeah. -w-;

But then it wouldn't truly be sentient eh? A sentient machine could reprogram itself ^_^

Well Einstein said it himself, nothing can travel at lightspeed except pure enrgy aka light.

Could, sure...but if you told it not to, would it still? It's the AI equivalent of telling your child not to cut off a leg - or dye her hair, depending on the action.

I'm not quite sure Einstein said so - the only thing that's sure is that an object traveling at lightspeed is unaffected by the effects of the chronopulse, and thus does not perceive time. Thus, we can never PERCEIVE traveling at lightspeed in regular dimensional fields - with proper modification this might still be possible, however. Then again, R-axis movement makes the entire thing with lightspeed obsolete, so it's all about getting them to work properly. DAMNIT YOU, NOW YOU'VE GOTTEN ME STARTED ON PHYSICS AGAIN, I'LL BE STUCK THINKING IN 8 DIMENSIONS FOR A WEEK NOW. ;___;

Well a sentient being is able to make it's own descicions, it can decide if it wants the child to cut its leg or not. But by putting up a code saying: You can't do this. will effect how sentient the being or AI in question is. For when it is at the moment that it should decide if the child should cut it's leg or not it's decision gets guided by the code and prevents it from truely making an unuiqe descicion based on it's own thoughtpatterns. Instead the code tells it, you CAN'T think like this. Wich makes it less AI and more just a program.

EDIT: Sorry for the physics talk though ^_^'

installing a program in a sentient AI to prevent it from doing something takes away it's sentience, no matter how small the change. the definition of sentience is
sen·tience  (sÄ›n'shÉ™ns, -shÄ"-É™ns)
n.
The quality or state of being sentient; consciousness.

Feeling as distinguished from perception or thought.

basically the ability to make one's own decisions. by preventing the AI's choice in the matter, we take away the ability to make one's own decisions, aka sentience.

and nej, don't worry, goplay some touhou. you'll feel better.

though, lightspeed travel has not yet occured as far as we know, so we have no idea of its ACTUAL effects, as einstein's theory is just that--a theory.

(FORGIVE ME EINSTEIN-SAMA ;___; )

Lightspeed is impossible, for one simple reason: if one was traveling at a quater of the speed of light, and your spaceship collided with one SPECK of space dust, the resulting explosion would be equivelent to 10 tons of TNT going off.
In case you didn't know, space is full of dust.

this has not yet been proven or tested outside of stars, whose composition at that point in time is a volatile explosive anyway.

this has yet to be tested with a vessel.

Hmm... hijacked thread aside, it'd still be cool having true AIOS (Artificial Intelligence Operating System) available on my computer or a robot... or even my "smartphone" (which would then be a true-to-life smartphone). Then again, it will probably end up bugging us when it starts nagging about how we pay more attention to "that other person" than we do them" and we'd just shut down the feature for the benefit of more computing power and, more importantly, getting them out of our necks.

Hmm... maybe I'm starting to have second thoughts on some things regarding AI-based OS.
