Title: Saseko...
Post by: Meiko Taniguchi on July 22, 2007, 08:25:40 PM
Hi,

Have heard of people discussing the "nickname" of XP-tan, but am unsure of the meaning, or if this is a good place for discuss...

(I hope this isn't anything bad either, so please not the banhammer for I have only quite recently gotten into OS-tan)

Well, I can say with 100% of confidence that you're talking about me and C-chan...

And well, I'm just going to repost the same thing I said earlier: Long time ago someone posted on Wakachan a page of a doujin (http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/7992/sasekoxj4.jpg). The translation was "I'm no SASEKO!"

and according to the translation, Saseko translates into english as "whore"

Also, this is the translated page (the whole doujin was translated later):
http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/1946/sahaosnoatsukaikata25ax0.jpg

And that's it. Everytime you call XP-tan Saseko, you hurt her. And god kills a penguin.

And you don't want to kill penguins...DO YOU????

But It wouldn't hurt to have the word of someone who, unlike me, knows japanese

I meant killing penguins via calling XP-tan Saseko, thus inciting God to strike them dead.  ^_^;

No, no!  I was trying to plead for people not to kill penguins this way.  ^.^;

Although, if you, a penguin, want God to strike penguins dead....

OHSH*TTHAT'SWHATINAMEDMYPERSOCOM!!!! I named my crappy laptop Homeo and my Sony Vaio Homeko. But my DakTech that I don't use much I named Saseko! Maybe I can save her reputation by renaming her. But it's bad luck to rename a plane, but does it mean it's bad luck to rename a computer?

*starts coming up with possible names*

- Kei
- Misato
- Sheeta
- Nausicaä

Does anyone know any other names of heroines from anime movies so that I can recoup my poor persocom's reputation? BTW, 5 potatoes if you can guess all four movies which the characters hail from. HINT: the last one is easy!

Whenever I move my mouse to "させã"" (I have rikaichan installed in firefox) and strange enough it states that it does read "Whore" ;013

Hiragana: させã"
Kana: させ子
Romanji: Saseko

Personaly, I perfer to call XP-tan, "XP-tan".

5 potatoes, eh?

Kei - Hand Maid May
Misato - NGE
Sheeta - Laputa: Castle in the Sky
Nausicaä - Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

Anyways, I do believe we have successfully answered the OPs question thus leaving us without an answerable topic, ne? Unless, of course, someone has an alternate meaning?

I think that we have answered the original question, and now we are left without a topic. Unless someone comes up with a serviceable topic, you could close the topic. However, I see no need to close the topic. After all, it isn't clogging up the server, is it?

QuoteKei - Hand Maid May

Very true, but I was thinking of Kei from Akira. She's not quite as smart, though. Ah well.

No need to close it unless people start spamming. Who knows, maybe there is more to be said?

QuoteVery true, but I was thinking of Kei from Akira.

Ah, that does fit the pattern better.

2k-tan is referring to the wholly annoying XP activation function, designed to decrease piracy. While 2k-tan requires a CD key, XP is the first to require internet or telephone activation.

This link to Wiki would better explain it better:

Wiki: Criticism of Windows XP - Product Activation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Windows_XP#Product_activation)

Not to mention that XP has to phone home back to Microsoft to confirm that the OS is a legal copy.

I'm no expert, but aside the activation issue, the whole saseko thing may be related in part to the looks of XP-tan (the character, not the OS)...which are often criticized by a certain pig ¬¬

wow....I never Saseko meant that...
Title: Saseko...
Post by: Bella on August 11, 2007, 08:28:30 PM
I didn't know that Saseko meant that, either O__o

Maybe I will call her XP-sama from now on (but Saseko does go with Homeko...)

Is that an actual insult, or is it more like a title...eg, calling someone an actual w%^&e vs. "a Jezebel"...
Title: Saseko...
Post by: C-Chan on August 11, 2007, 11:27:31 PM
Sounds more like an insult adapted as a term of endearment, not unlike how in Mexican culture a husband may call his wife [in Spanish] "gorda", or literally "fatty".  It's a humorous term of endearment that (at least as far as I've seen) is still acceptable (and in fact was used in the Spanish dubbing of Shrek).

But trying that in the States (AND in English) will likely initiate some good ol' fashioned Domestic Violence.  ^^;

Oh, yes What a wonderful idea...

So we are falling from the frying pan into the fire...  ;012

i.e. we are falling from the Saseko into the Laputa, which all this implies into all Spanish Spoken "Se habla Español" countries...

We both C-Chan and me know what "la puta" means in spanish... ROTFL  ;011  ;012 ;088

Yes! Tsubashi and 95Direct wants politely let you aware of the fact that XP needs to phone Microsoft to require "activation", so she is truly a "call girl"...  ;015  ;006

-----

By the way... In other countries Saseko is not that bad...

In german language SaSeKo it is a short for:

Sach- und Selbstkompetenz

that is in english:

"Special and self authority"

Where "Kompetenz" in german means something like "Skills", "Authority", "Know how", "Competence", "Capability"...

(I hope I translated it well, thanks to Google, and some little german I know)

For example: "Sach- und Selbstkompetenz in der Sportlehrerausbildung"

"Special and self authority in the sport teacher training"

LOL! ROTFL!

I would wager Darknight_88 knows as well, and yours truly. (I lived for 5 years in Spain  ;) )

Personally, I call the OS-tans by their original names, just for the sake of clarity and for the benefit of the uninitiated.

Yeah, In Mexico you can call people with certain derogatory terms without problems. Terms as: gorda (fatty), vieja (old woman) or negro (Black).
Of course, they can also be used and understood in a derogatory way, but it depends on the context, grade of relation (family, friend, stranger) and tone of voice.

...
I actually doubt that "saseko" is used as a term of endearment, looking at XP-tan reaction in  this  (http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/1946/sahaosnoatsukaikata25ax0.jpg) page
Personally, I think there's a huge difference between calling someone "fat" and calling someone a whore >_>

The only way to be sure would be to ask in Nijiura's /os/ or 2chan
