This part of the board is looking a little dead so why not a little discussion to get the place going again? ^^
My first anime was Sailor Moon. I was about 4 when it came out. X3 I'm still loving it to this day. ^.^
The first anime I watched was a series called Candy Candy (In Spain, dubbed to spanish). I think it was in 1985/86. The anime that got me hooked on anime was a movie called Windaria, which I watched the following year. The first anime I watched undubbed was Akira, this was much later, in 1994.
Hmmmm...
wait im not sure which one was the first but here are several possible.
Kimba the white lion
Speed racer
Voltes V
Getter Robo
Princess Sarah
Little women
I'm not sure which of these was first but it has to be one of them!
The first anime i watched should be Captain Harlock.
I discovered it and other animes when i was baby thanks to my father ^^
First anime I watched...Pokemon, of course.
But what really got me hooked on anime - before that I had simply been reading lots of manga - was DNAngel. Delicious shojo tenshis YUM! :D

Pokemon was my second anime. XD Again, still watching it to this day. ^.^
DNAngel is pretty good! I just read a few of the manga books and it's not all that bad. ^^
Too bad it's like on Hiatus, though...NAZE, BUNNY-SENSEI, NAZE DA!?
Pokemon, here!
(a friend got me interested in the cards, then the show)
I guess the second would be, of all things, Cowboy Bebop ;)
Sailor Moon
Dragon Ball Z
Speed Racer
Transformers
Pokemon
Not in that order...
The ones I actually watched like religion was Sailor Moon, Dbz and Pokemon.
this is a good question...
hmmm.... my first anime was
Nausicaä
after that i watched Laputa, Castle in the Sky
my first Anime TV series was Sailor Moon (and i must say the story is/was interesting...) :D
I was around 8 when I watched Ginga Nagareboshi Gin, dubbed in finnish.
Watched as well Totoro and Porco Rosso.
First anime that I watched and really knew that it was anime was pretty much Ranma½, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop and Saber marionette.
This was some 5 years ago.
The first anime series I've ever seen was "Speed Racer". However I was unaware of that it was an anime!
First anime series that I've seen and knew they were anime were "Pokémon" and "Sailor Moon"!

Ha ha! this does not affect me at all! ha ha!
In order:
On TV:
Pokemon, Sailor moon, DBZ, Inuyasha, Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gundam.
Through freinds:
Chobits, Suzumiya Haruhi no yuutsu.
<3
Noob. :P
Only chobits and FMA... maybe haruhi, are made of wino n that list. Venture away from cartoon network animes! they will be the end of you.

=^_^= We dont get cartoon network up here in canada on full cable, just YTV, I watched em all online and bought a few DVD's (Region 1 ^_^)
Btw, Is wino a good thing?
Still TV anime, vs what you get online/dvd is fail. tho it still surprizes me the aired FMA in the US, that show is pretty messed up.
"wino n" is "win on" with the space in the wroung spot T_T

Yea, I actually like the japanese version of haruhi, its got more humour to it...
Too bad its only 15 episodes, but I like watching em in different orders, liek a "choose your own story" sorta thing.
Personaly I like the english version better. Im a westerner, western humor i understand better. if a sub titler has to explain a joke in notes above the screen then Im okay without it. Plus, I think they cast the characters pretty good, none of the usual annoying claw my ears off voices.

*claws at ear*
yea, I dont perticlularly like reading the subtitles, but it helps me learn japanese.
After i can just watch it dubbed.
My first was Captain Tsubasa...
Sailor Moon was my first anime, although, I don't know if it was really Sailor Moon, since it aired before (or after) DragonBall Z.
Totoro was my first anime, followed by Sailor Moon and later Robotech.
At least I think those are the first ones, I've seen so many that I can't remember. ;138
My first was probably Akira, the very first time it aired on Sci-Fi channel, many many moons ago. According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sci_Fi_Channel_%28United_States%29#Anime) (which we all know is the end-all, be-all bastion of accurate knowledge), the original anime programming on Sci-Fi started in the 1990s. So I'm thinking 1994, 'cos that year sticks out the most to me. As far as actual serial anime goes, Sailor Moon was probably my first, with DBZ being a a very close second. Of course, I didn't get a steady diet of anime from that date onward, in fact, I didn't get a chance to start watching anime on a regular basis until a few years back.
It's kind of embarrassing to admit to this, but the main reason I remember Akira as my first is because it just scared the hell outta me when I first saw it (yeah, my wild animation led to easy frights). Funny watching it now and thinking "I was 8 freakin' years old! How the hell did I find this scary?!" -__-'
Quote from: "Zalian"Totoro was my first anime, followed by Sailor Moon and later Robotech.

O....M....G..
That's the exact same as MINE!!
My first anime was Totoro, Followed by Sailor Moon, and DragonBallZ.
HUmm if you count the old shows like that robotech probobly was my first, or thundercats but i didnt really watch it much (i think it sucked personaly...) However like I stated before, my first REAL anime was Iria: the Zerim animation on sci fi channels saturday morning anime.. or it may have been their anime week where they played anime movies every day. i think they have stopped that...
So i guess i had my anime cherry popped twice. Once by the saturday morning cartoons type, and one by the serious buisness anime.
Shows like Pokemon and DBZ were the first ones that I saw, Tenchi got me hooked though.
Probably DBZ or Evangelion. This was way back and I was little and skimmed through the channels. All I remember was a little bit of DBZ and a few hazy scenes of Eva.
AAAAAAAAHHHHH A REALY TOO HARD QUESTION!
I belive what my first anime wasssssssss.................. Voltron! and "las Aventuras de Gigi" (the adventures of Gigi) of corse. I have almos 3 years wen i see it... in Mexico of Corse, im talking about 1985 or 1986... then i see the Thundercats and the SilverHawks(well, the animation of the Thundercats and SilverHawks was anime! Watch the credits! There is Japanese people!)...
Mexico has a realy old histoy of anime transmition... my fathers saw "Heidi" "El Fantasmagorico" (Golden Bat) "Astroboy"(In Black And white) "El Hombre Clon"(someting like "Clone-man", i dont know how it calls, but the draws seems just like Doraemon) "Josefina la Ballena" (Kujira No Hosefiina) and a lot more.
Voltron, Gigi, Thundercats and the SilverHawks, then comes Mazinger, Sebastian (there is a dog, i belibe), Remi, "Capitan Centella" (Moonlight Mask) Astroboy, The White Lion, The Last Unicorn (i see it in VHS) The Blue Buble (Half French and Japanese) Robotech, Peter Pan (There is a anime version of it!) Around the world with Willy Fog (Half Spanish-Japanese Production as well "Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds"), "Same, el duende de la Arena"(Same the Sand Gnome) Maya the Bee, (There is a anime about some rodents how want to go to a island of cats... but i didnt rememember the name)... may be here ends the History of anime in Mexico from 1984 to earlys 90's... well... i saw all this things, but in 1994 i noticed what this was draw in Japan.
My first one was akira, wich I now have on DVD, and my first bought series is GITS SAC (best anime E-VA)
My first anime was sailor moon, then pokemon, digimon, dragon ball z, then gundam wing. My first anime when I actually knew what anime was would be inu-yasha.
My first anime was Ranma 1/2 when I was eight... I never watched television, and I was so excited when I was twelve and I got to stay in a house with cable. But I was so disapointed with it all, and I've hated dubs ever since...
Also, I watched Record of Lodoss War, Macross Plus, Devil Hunter Yoko and Love Godess Rei Rei. Ranma was my favorite though. I still have the first season memorized.
i love ranma, ive got all 7 seasons X3
Honto ni!? O___O I've only seen the first and second season (and a few OAVs+the movies)
Ah... ahhha~n ;-; * lost for words *
I have 2 discs of ovas too.. but I havent seen the movie ;_; and Ive also got about 25 of the books...
Im a big ranma fan, but for good reasons XD I liked any show ive seen where a guy turns into a girl by magic or other means :P
I'd like to add Pokemon and the Digimon series 1.
Now, I don't really have a preference between Japanese with Subtitles and English dubs. As long as the dubs aren't too bad.
...Like Osaka who suddenly aquired a southern accent...
I haven't really seen any of the Ranma series, but I have read the Manga.
Have any of you by chance read a manga called "Tuxedo Jin"?
Also, Some of the Sonic the hedgehog based animes are good.
"Adventures of Sonic the hedgehog" Aka AOSTH is pretty good in a Saturday morning cartoon style. Like looney tunes.
But if you're going to watch Sonic X, I recomend the japanese version.
Well, in Azumanga Daioh, she speaks with an osakan dialect, which is more... like a new yorkers dialect, but southern is more noticable so thats how they dubbed it. I can understaaand that. I just don't like american dubs... except Porco Rosso. Disney dubs are really good... o.0 ãŠé,ªé"ã—ã¦ã™ã,,ã¾ã›ã,"ãŒ

Captain-san, there are two movies! Maybe even three, but I'm not completely for sure, I've only seen two ;-; The movies are really good. I used to have a big crush on ranma, cuz he could turn into a girl. BUT IT WAS OKAY BECAUSE HE WUZ STILL A GUY. RITE? Rite o-o; Another more recent anime where a guy gets turned into a girl is Kashi Mashi, it's so cute *-* I love it so much. Kyaa.
No, I don't like EN dubs either...It's just unnatural since I started Anime with JP dubs...
*looks at his DVD-box of GITS SAC and his DVD of GITS for wich I had to search THE WHOLE EASTERN HALF OF HOLLAND!!!*
Yeah >:0 Unnatural. Dats what it is. Unnatural like duh mexicans.
btw I'm half mexican so I know better than most ;-;
half Dutch, half English, with an ancestral hint of indonesian gipsy, with love for the gljorious Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik and Japan here.
Nice to meet you
*Smiles with a wide, almost insane grin*

Thats so cool :3 I'm the two most hated races in America. Mexican. And French.
Well...at least you don't refuse to speak ze english, like some other french do.....
Ah oui? ^^ Is that so?
I feel almost ashamed of myself when I say I'm a pure-bred viking, now.
Aww... Nordic? :F Thats cool...
I only speak English and japanese... ;-;
well, the vikings were a misunderstood people...They were really good merchants, and merciless warriors....
WAIT! Your french?! Does that mean your delicious sammiches could be french dip?!?! MAH FAVARITE!

I seen that one, i found it kinda sad too. But it was good. :P
another good one kinda like that ive seen recently was Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru. He didnt actually turn into a girl, but he dressed like one and went to an all girls school, and became the most popular girl in school X3 very good, you must see it.
Quotewell, the vikings were a misunderstood people...They were really good merchants, and merciless warriors....
Misunderstood...check.
Good negotiator...check.
Merciless warrior...check, sorta.
Huge beard and stench of mead...NOT-CHECK.
Well, 3 out of 4 is quite well I guess ^^
Yay! I still know history!! :D
*dances*
Ok, off-topicness detected.
To return a bit, any of you guys know any viking Animu? I's detected shortage much, ef.
in Claymore they seemed kinda norse :P least the symbols reminded me of it.
Hoo. Not seen it, although I've heard words of praise for it from others. Might want to try it out.
Very well drawn and animated, however.. i felt the actuall "claymores" were too.. indistinct. Other then a change of hair style they vary very little in visual cues...
Mwuh....now that's something I dislike...might try it still, though.
Viking anime... viking anime... Record of Lodoss War almost... not really. I don't remember. o.o It's been a while.
Well don't know i been watching cartoon for a long time but i think it was buy excel saga boxset.
-Dos, Meow
I'm not sure, but I used to watch Marine Boy, The Amazing 3, Tobor the 8th Man (not too much, though), Speed Racer, and Kimba. Most likely it was one of those.
I have Kimba but I still havn't watched it...
Not counting Sailor Moon, Pokemon or Digimon (As when I was a kid and watched those, I didn't realize it was a style), I think my first real anime that I watched in Japanese was Ghost in the Shell. Then I think Cowboy Bebop.
It's nice to have a knowledgeable brother to get you into this stuff. 8D
Nice, wich GITS was that, then?
Quote from: "Smokey"Nice, wich GITS was that, then?
Stand Alone Complex. C:
Awesome... I saw the movie first, then I discovered that there were 2 anime's and another 2 movies...
Solid-state society is the last one I saw, and I can't wait for the next one... ;010 (I'm hooked)
I saw the original Ghost in the Shell when I was nine or so... I drew buff women in skin tight suits for months afterwards >_>
Hey...Toki's back.... YAY!!! :D
Anywayz... Since I can't really draw... I've ben trying to figure out AI and Cybernetics since I saw GITS.... I still believe it's alot simpler than it looks, all we need to do is map our entire nervous system, program a suitable processor system and hook it up... Then we could use it for great medical advancements...
Um... yes ._. Mapping our entire nervous system is a peice of cake.... Mm cake <3
I'm doing my best to stay on topic!! So. The first animated movie to ever really have an impression on me was Heavy Metal xD Which I saw when I was four. I remember it very vividly.
To be brutally honest my first anime was actually DBZ, but i didn't like it much, cuz the story just looped and looped...
My first proper Anime wat the old-skool-classic Akira... :D
HIGH FIVE. * does it * Akira is so amazing, even if just for the fact that it was animated at 20 fps... * drools *
*high five's Toki* Yeah! Akira roolz... :D
I enjoyed Akira. I was able to see it projected on an auditorium screen during a free showing at a university.
Woah, that musta been pimpin' o__o I watched some Black Lagoon on a big screen at Sakura kon, but that was the only anime I watched while I was there >.> It was pretty good.
Added after 2 minutes:
I just realized I never really watch anime at anime conventions xD I can watch animoos on my own time, you know o__o But it's good for people who don't have access to lots of animes I guess... Can they only show licensed anime at cons?
I would guess they can... (only show licensed anime)
Although over here (in holland) it's really confusing to understand what's what...
My first was MMPPP. I kind of watched it on accident...
Eeeehm baffled here, MMPPP????
Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, wikipedia tells me, and it looks like something i'd watch when i'm in a "Heck-why-not" mood, but i'm very title sensitive... :D
MMPPP...that sounds like A: a politic party somewhere WAY off, or B: a strange, muffled sound effect.
What about GOTYE? LOL
Game Of The Year Edition...
First one I watched - I didn't even realize it was anime at the time. Teknoman / Tekkaman Blade, which has since become one of my favorite series after watching it again in Japanese.
First conscious anime would be Vampire Hunter D.
First conscious anime series would be Gundam Wing, like too many other people.
my First Anime that i watched....
It was the Anime Movie from Hayao Miyazaki "Laputa, Castle in the Sky"
I recently realized the first anime I remember seeing was Speed Racer; I remember watching this...oh, I don't even know how old I was...probably 6 or so...
QuoteWoah, that musta been pimpin' o__o I watched some Black Lagoon on a big screen at Sakura kon, but that was the only anime I watched while I was there >.> It was pretty good.
indeed! it was much fun watching it, and the english voice actors wernt that bad. Really too bad about geneon US closing its doors.. they will never finish dubbing it.. ~_~ Anyhow, It was dissapointing that it was one of the few times during the con that I got to hang out with the toki :( Hanging out before the con was teh awsome :3
my first one was Spirited Away
Spirited away, you say?...
Hmmm.. that sounds interesting...
here is a link http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=112
OMG!!!
Did you see how hard they raped the title when they translated it into Dutch?! Man, Dutch is LAME!
Oh, eehm, sorry for bashing my native language before thanking you for the link...
It looks good. :D I'll go watch it ( i do hope that it's not licensed yet, because the nearest anime/manga store is 30 miles away and it's REALLY small, so they probably wouldn't have it right there)...
try amazon , they are good and cheap 10â,¬ are fine for it , !
Hmm, that would be a great way to get Anime on DVD the way i like it...
(I now have Japanese dubs, wich is good, and dutch subs, wich i don't like...)
Everything sucks when dubbed.
Damn near everything, at least.
Some things, however, suck so much they become OH HILARITY.
Also, doesn't everything sound awfully awkward when translated into your native language, especially from Japanese...?
Yeah, only i once watched Ice Age with Flemmish dubs...Now THAT was hilarious... :D
Although I must say this thread is strange because official thread "your introduction to anime" already exists here:
http://www.ostan-collections.net/topic-169.html
...but I want to comment here because I want to answer to NejinOniwa and Toki who have a question:
Quote from: "NejinOniwa"Ok, off-topicness detected.

Quote from: "Toki"Viking anime... viking anime... Record of Lodoss War almost... not really. I don't remember. o.o It's been a while.
As I said in the other thread there is an interesting Anime of 1974 that in Italy it is named "Vicky il Vichingo" and original name was
"Chîsana baikingu Bikke" [EDIT]original german name is "Wickie" [/EDIT] and it is a co-production of Austria + Germany + Japan.
I believe it should be japanese animation while characters are german...
I remember it because it was the first japanese anime in Italy, and it is historically remebered for that.
I saw it and was quite good (even if a bit linear in the plot) and sure aimed at child audience.
Also I remember a Viking movie from TOEI, in which Hayao Miyazaki realized the Character Design.
Film was a flop in Japan, and sure it is very very very SAAAAD plot movie, But Miyazaki was so good that he became very respected and gained many positions in TOEI management...
Movie was called in Italy with various names, because it was considered sad and violent and it presented a very lame editing of the scenes of the story (european cuts? american cuts? censorship cuts?), and marketing tried to change its name to enhance its poor appeal.
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_grande_avventura_del_piccolo_principe_Valiant
I don't know if there are english version (but sure there should be one... At least now that Miyazaki has become famous, a modern version of this movie then it should had been re-mastered)...
Name of this film is "La grande avventura del piccolo principe Valiant" / "Il segreto della spada del sole" / Horus â€" Principe del Sole, original name is "Taiyo no ÅŒji - Horusu no daiboken".
So if you are searching for Vikings related anime now you know what to search for...
You can search for an entire serial cartoon, and also you can search for a movie...
[EDIT]
OK from articles of Wikipedia in my country I extended the search and I reached the english names and versions of both these anime...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vicky_the_Viking.
(YAY! I'M DA MAN! :smoke: I knew it was original european character design... The article confirmed it... ;010 )
Also I discovered that in Italy there are selling DVDs of Vicky...
Here this link brings you to the italian Opening theme from DVD:
http://video.libero.it/app/play?id=45fd9b0cc6d55f5d5f838cbfc3184a25
Here are some images:

As being orignally a german cartoon, I bet that Vicky should be famous in Germany too, in the seventies...
So it is more logical that there should exists also a german release of DVDs.
Also, German are famous to be precise, and very professional, so I hope that german version should feature multi-language soundtrakcs (german, english, japanese)...
Check for it on E-Bay or Amazon...
Also I found that american name of Prince Valiant/Horus is this:
"Little Norse Prince Valiant"...
Now check E-bay or Amazon or even the "Mule" for searching it, because it should be very very rare and I think it is not sold anymore...

Sorry, I could not subscribe your point of view...
Here in my country dubbing it is very professional, and often it reaches very high quality.
Unfortunately as here in Italy were dubbed more than 500 japanese cartoons, and many were imported in the seventies, there were an inflactioned market of anime, professional dubbers were used too often for real movies, and cartoons are considered just a market for childs, that it must receive no quality attention, and this lead to a certain number of lame dubs...
"Kimba the Lion" by Osamu Tezuka was sure LAME dubbed here in Italy.
my first anime...mmm
dragon ball? xD
yea...
but...captain tsubasa maybe...
i don´t remember >.<
Voltron. Old old anime kind of like power rangers except in the late 80's
"Los Caballeros del Zodiaco" or Knights of The Zodiac. =)
After it, Dragon ball came second.
I ve watched a few animes when i was small, but the first one i watched should be either Yu Yu hakusho, dragonball Z, or slam dunk.
1985... i guess it was Doraemon... or maybe Mazinger Z?

ohh, That dug out some memories... The actual name of caballeros del zodiaco is Saint Seya
My first anime was either Voltron or Robotech. I started watching both of them about the same time, so I'm not sure which one came first.
First anime....Doraemon...
But at that time I don't have any idea what is anime. Starting from the year 1997 after watching Neon Genesis Evangelion. Starting from there I start my quest for anime.
Mmmm i hve seen so many that i'm not sure; but one of them was Mazinger Z, captain tsubasa, sailor moon; robotech, Saint seiya!! Dragon ball, Shurato, yu yu hakusho and there is anotherone about a robot with a number (88,28, i don't remember)

That one!! i had seen the remake of 1980; and yes it has many names depending of where it was broadcast
my first anime is astroboy, blak and with version, the OLD version
First anime? Doraemon, i guess.....
The ending was strange.....
. _ . Ive never seen Doraemon, but there are so many references to it in so many shows i feel like i have XD My Japanese teacher in highschool was a fan of it when she was a girl she said
WTF, you had Japanese in highschool?!
That would be sooo nice, i would've started watching proper anime earlier then, and understand it better...
Well, had i known about fan subs at the time, i prolly would have done better in the class. But yes, we had Japanese, then again Seattle is where alot of import products get imported to the United States from. We have alot of Japanese and asian people here, prolly more then say california has mexicans... well prolly not, but we have alot. We have asian markets, there is a Japanese district in downtown Seattle, heck I cant remember of the top of my head but Seattle has a "sister city" in Japan. Our class even had exchange students. Unfortunatly the only chance i get to use any Japanese is when I order and pick up my teriaki or when Im asking where the yakisoba sauce is in the market.
Tho, that reminds me. I have oppertunities to visit Japan here soon. My sister in the USAF and my mom who she takes care of as a dependant are headed over to a base there for a few years. I think there are ways they can get cheap tickets for family to visit.... =_= i never got a cance while I was still in the USMC but in LA there were free military flights every wensday to japan, on a first come first serve basis.
Oh, sweet...
And the Dutch AF (as far as i know) does station its personell in the US a lot (for periods up to a couple of years... YAY free appartment, free ar... FREE GAS!), but i haven't heard of them going to Japan? The major AF co-op stuff is in america, right?
The US has several major bases in Japan, but ive never heard anything about holland <_<
Naah we go to the US since there's (at least that's what they told me) some kind of major NATO co-op training exercises... But that's airforce...
But (in an effort to stay ontopic) i saw Akira as my first anime, six years ago...
My first anime was Ghost in the Shell. Good tech one.
Wicked... GITS wasn't my first but dam it was sure the best, BTW it is the first i ever tried to collect completely...(have GITS, GITS innocence, GITS SAC, and i'm still looking for SAC2nd Gig and GITS SSS, so i have em all on DVD instead of half of it on HDD)
So in short: GITS W00T, YEAH ;215 ;010
You know, i dont think ive ever seen ghost in the shell all the way through.. I should take care of that when i get some spare cash
please do, it's worthwhile...
although try to catch it on tv (or so) first since it'd be a shame if you didn't like it... (although i hardly think that's possible :D)

Chotto mate kudasai.....
GITS, you say it with enthusiasm and full of passion! ^_^ So i guess GITS must be a good anime...
But what is GITS stand for?? I never know that anime exist!!
Ghost In The Shell, and i find it a brilliant anime wich also has good philosophy views...
Oooo.... i know that one.... ;047
It's a good anime indeed..... ^_^
Seriously, GITS works in so many ways...
i think it was captain tsubasa or dragon ball
Dragon ball is (in my opinion) not a real anime... ;014
CLAUSE 125 of INTERNET-NATIONAL TROLL LAWS:

Well it's been a long time but I will never forget my first anime.
It was Slayers and I have seen all 4 series, 6 ova, and 5 movies ;001
good stuff that. I havent seen any slayers in some time come to think of it <_<
On that topic...
SLAYERS EVOLUTION-R, SUBS THE FUCKMAWHEAR!?
OMFG i'm probably going to sound so old here but my first anime was.....*BLUSH* watching the first run of Robotech on American tv EEP *HIDES*
Hey, I loved me some robotech as a kid, I still love macross. I feel its far supeiror to gungam and all the similar shows. Its really the show that made transformable mecha and giant robots popular :P
I missed the 80s era by a few years (born 1988), so I unfortunately did not experience that part of early anime fandom. ^^;

i totaly agree though my own tastes run to strange extremes i suppose its all based around mood for me but some of what i consider classics put me in an odd head state like Akira or NGE or even SE:Lain but i like to watch some of the silly shojo stuff with my daughter even though shes a bit young still to get alot of it

You were born in the year my first anime was released, Akira...
And good grief, there's a lot of anime from the year i was born (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Anime_of_1985) wich i have yet to see... ;015
Quotebut i like to watch some of the silly shojo stuff with my daughter
I feel so much like a kid now. ;_;
So?......... Most of the time i eel like some old relic...
Mine was Heidi, Girl of the Alps
(one of the titles of World Masterpiece Theater)
The following anime's I saw where all of that same collection (with the exception of Tetsuwan Atom, Mazinga Z and Speed Racer)
Hard to tell, I think it was Voltes V when I was 5, later on, I was able to watch Juuni Senshi Bakuretsu Eto Rangers and Slamdunk. After that well otakuism followed....
Voltus V, it brings back memories!
My friend collecting that stuff, from manga to anime.
I don't find it interesting though! It's so oold...^_^
Compared to the new anime..... it's just ooold! ;047
Heidi reminds me of that Gintama episode I watched recently...I LULZ'D.
first...
is...
oh,
SNOOPY and his friends.
well, in fact, It's not first, but top in my memory...
second anime is...
-- Marybell or SweetMint and... St. Tail.
these are in Japanese words, -mahou sojyo anime-.
Ah, snoopy,penuts... Good times... ^_^

Yeah I know it's old but people are in to it because of the Super Robo Taisen series most probably...
Wow. . Lesse, if I can remember right the first anime I saw, and that I remember enjoying, was an anime movie that had a female bounty hunter tracking an alien who could eat something, and make it into a monster. . . Her ship could talk, and I saw it back on the Scifi channel when it was -good- and not riddled with crappy shows and even worse movies.
Then after that it was Galaxy Express 999, and then ( my favorite ) Armitage the Third. It is the basis for my longest standing RP character!
Aria: The Zerim animation

my mom hated sailor moon, said she was a ditz :p
Ouch.... well we can't please everyone....

Yes! That is it! Thank you so much for finding that for me! Now I must go ferreting around the Internet t00bz to find this and relive a small part of my childhood.
Do you remember them showing a live action movie based off of this? I blame that movie for giving me my utter bloodlust over Asian B movies that I have now. I can't remember if the movie was good or bad, but still.
there were two live action ones before the anime. The anime came after them but its a prequal to the live action. the live action ones were simply called Zeiram and Zeiram 2. Much the way The Red Specticals and Stray Dog both tie into Jin Roh
Ooo, I gotcha. I know that nowadays taking animes and turning them into live action ( Death Note, that Nana Girl movie ) is popular, so I just assumed.
God, all this talking is making me feel so very, very old. *Shakes her cane at all the youngin's on her lawn* Git off with yer shiney animes and yer big pants and beepers and your rap muzak!

Tetsuwan atom...
Wow I feel old now.......
My first was Elfen Lied, and it's the reason I'm still watching anime today. It was bloody brilliant! The first time I watched it I had a marathon session and had it done in a whole day. I then watched it again the next day, and the day after that. I loved it.
Still to this day, it is the only anime that's made me cry. I fell in love with Lucy/Nyu and I audibly whimpered at the end when I thought she'd died at the hands of the SAT squads. I'm watching it again now for like the twentieth time and it still hasn't lost its ability to tug at my heartstrings.
I just got a Nyu wallscroll for my bedroom wall and I actually find myself gazing longingly into her eyes on regular occasions. To paraphrase Tara from Buffy "I'm under her spell..."
Nyu=love...
Just hope she doesn't change to lucy at the most unexpected moment o_o
But yeah, I also love Elfen Lied, a litle bloody, but love it (still, caution must be exercise if any family member close by while watching). Though at the end of it, who is the women figure? It's as if the creator make us guessing the figure at the end is what we want.
Elfen Lied was acceptable, except the ending. It ruined it all. I mean, srsly. WHY SO GAINAX?
Gainax?
"Acceptable!?" WFT^^? Elfen Lied is the best anime EVAR!!!!!!
With Gainax I mean Gainax ending. I mean, seriously, I couldn't get a squid's ass out of that black hole of an ending, it was DEEP and GRIMDARK and GENERALLY SPEAKING I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL YOU'RE DOING WHAT'S THIS I DIDN'T EVEN so I in your roommate, if you know what I mean.
Uhh, okay.
I still say it was good...
Well, apart from the ending it was pretty good - however, as with all too many things, that ruined it all for me, so no rewatch this side of the millenia for me.
My first anime is Doraemon
My first anime was "Serial Experiment Lain" in 1999. I found it when, one day, I wanted some Winamp skins. I get one skin of this animes and ... I bought the VHS ( I didn't have a DVD reader at this time so ... ) to watched it. I love it ( even if the story is not the easiest to understand ).
My first anime? Akira (english dub) on a VHS tape in, uhn... 1995? Around there.
Vampire Hunted D followed. They were from this Afghan dude I went to school with.
Ahh, Akira... I have that one on spcial 2-disc edition DVD...
I think my first anime I really watched often was Naruto, and some of that stuff.
My first anime was SAILOR MOON! I was the only kid in my class who watched it over DBZ and by god, I loved it!
o___o...... sailor moon was my first. ~^__^~
i remember getting up at 5 am on saturday when i was 5 yrs old just to watch it on the tv with the volume turned up to like, 4....<D any louder and me and sis would get yelled at. after it was over ghostbusters would be on. :3
after the series ended pokemon filled the void a little.....but then i discovered Cyborg009 (<33333) and everything was alright. untill that ended ;___;
Cyborg 009 was awsome!
Chocofreak13, Vegapunk
You are not alone, Sailor Moon also^^. Many girls in my age will say that it was their first anime (same as pockemones and Flower Angel Run Run)
Chobits. Saw my younger sister watching it a couple years back on Anime Network on Demand (shame I can't find it anymore on the iControl system... damn you, TWC!), so I decided to sit down and watch a few of the later episodes offered.
Then I found Youtube... and yeah, now I'm hooked on Spice and Wolf.
In my mind, I don't really consider (yet others I know do) shows like Naruto or Pokemon a real anime. It's been overly bastardized by everyone in the US.
Well, frankly the "real" japanese versions of those two shows - and pretty much everything else rapekilled by 4shitz - are quite watchable. (personally I've pained myself through the Naruto fillers over one week, then proceeded to follow the somewhat acceptable actual plot; also watched ALL the Pokemon movies in japanese. First time I watched Movie 1 was a raw...damn that was hard. ^^)
Economy and Wolf is quite amusing at times...the only question I have is WHERETHEFUCKISMYSEASON2, lol. -w-;
Chobits...meh.
I never really fancied CLAMP very much. Somewhat excepted with Tsubasa Chronicles, but that's a bit...yeah, at times.
i like chobits. mah crazy of a sister has the entire series, both manga and anime. i have a chi plushie (actually one of my first anime plushies, she and inuyasha were my first, bought at the same time).
i hope Reborn! comes to the us. :3
Chobits...another clamp creation that I follow back then. Quite good if you ask me.
Btw nejin, if you follow Tsubasa Chronicles, you better follow xxxHolic too. Both of the two story are intertwined very close with each other. Not just because the story going at the same time, but there's much more.
Speaking of clamp, the only thing that sometime bugging is probably is their complicated relationship between character.
Like I said, I try to avoid most CLAMP things. I just follow Tsubasa because well, I got caught, and there ain't much to do about it. -.-
The first anime that I remember is Mazinger Z ( just some chapters. Because here in Mexico it wasn't totally transmited ).
After Mazinger I remember Speed Racer and Dragon Ball ( They were great ).
Mines was Doraemon (or Sailormoon...)
my first was gundam
long live gundaaam ;012
doraemon still intresting
First anime... Doraemon... but that was watching it as a TV-show as a kid
[probably includes Voltron, Transformers Masterforce, Speed Racer, DBZ, Sailormoon (some very few eps)]
first actual anime that i watched (after i knew what anime was) - Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz... and then it grew on from there
Azumanga Daioh
That I remember?
Pokemon
That I actually saw? (I was like three, my mom took me to them)
Slayers
I would say Sailor Moon and DBZ on cartoon network back in the day. It was a bad bug that still continues till now lol
Welp get ready to google if your TOO young.
I THINK my first was either Astro boy or Tobor the 8th man, Can not leave Gigantor out of there either. Then there was Prince Planet, Kimba the White Lion, Jonny Cyper in Diminision Zero, Marine Boy and Speed Racer. They were on TV around the same time, courtesy of Wee Willie Webber's Cartoon Cartoon Club. Those were the days... The days of Black and White anime since Kimba was the first full epispode anime. anything before that was not in color...
My first anime(not including speed racer cuz i'm not sure if it counts) I'm not sure which one I saw first was either sailor moon or DBZ.
first anime was 風ã®è°·ã®ãƒŠã,¦ã,·ã,«^^
i loved nausicaa.
hmmmm let's see my first anime were captain herlock, G force, Mazinger. these were the ones i watched on TV when they were broadcast back in the late 70's and early 80's but my first actual VHS anime were wicked city, battle angel, akira, demon city shinjuku and of course the classic ghost in the shell (notice they are all movies and not series) i was a little weird about that in my anime beginnings... i think i dated myself when i mentioned about broadcast anime on TV back in the 70's and 80's... i is an old fart!
I'm pretty sure my first anime was Tenchi Muyo (that or Dragon Ball Z). Not sure oAo
my fist anime would be card captor sakura, second is samurai x and third is dragon ball
but for the first manga i read was sailor moon...
I think the first anime I ever watched, was Dragonball Z, and then I watched Card Captors, with Toradora! being the most recent.
Personally I think I'm going to watch Toradora again, as it was an awesome anime.
Like many people, my first anime was Dragonball Z...
I consider Outlaw Star to be the one that really pulled me into the anime universe though. My gateway drug :D
~Troop
First full anime i watched was Beserk.
Was introduced to Dragon Ball in '95 but never really got into it so i don't count it.
The earliest or first anime I heard was Sailor Moon, but I never watched it. The first one I made an effort to watch was a mecha anime. I can't just recall the name.
Sailor Moon
galaxy angel
Duh my was Pokemon. Who didn't like Pokemon
lots of people.
and i just noticed there's nothing but newbs on this page .____.
what is wrong with that Choco
Speed Racer was my first, Pokemon was my second. >.> And Cowboy Bebop and FLCL and Inuyasha were my first "big kid" anime. d:
I like to watch anime so much and my first anime was Digimon Adventure.
I was 6 years old when it came out.
DIGIMON~~~~<3
I never really like digimon
in order:
sailor moon, pokemon, digimon, cardcaptors, cyborg 009, .hack//legend of the twilight, cowboy bebop, trigun, big o, inuyasha, ........and so on.
So you got your start watching "big kid anime" on Adult Swim, too? :D
I remember, years ago, watching those Adult Swim anime with my brother-- during the summer when he stayed with us, and I was able to stay up late. Oh, how exotic and exciting and new anime was to me... *is nostalgic*
I never watch Adult Swim anime *cries*. Okay, I have seen Cowboy Bebop a few times and re-watched part of FLCL (aka the anime that my mentally unbalanced friend wouldn't watch)
ANIME DOES NOT AIR HERE. ;_;
That's why you need p2p ;D
Anyway, my first real anime, non swedish dub was area 88.
I LOVE SAILOR MOON! First anime I ever saw!!!
Hey, the most like a child, watching the cartoon "Sailor Moon
Sailor Moon was the first anime I ever watched. Then I watched DBZ.
you're all sailor moon people huh XD
Most likely because it was one of the first anime made popular widespread? Amongst with other classics like Dragon Ball and some other ones I don't even remember - after all, back then many people did not even know the term 'anime'.
Quote from: "Exa"Most likely because it was one of the first anime made popular widespread? Amongst with other classics like Dragon Ball and some other ones I don't even remember - after all, back then many people did not even know the term 'anime'.
true enough.
XD
sm was my first too, followed by probably pokemon, then digimon and so on.
i miss them. :[ back when digimon was still1st-2nd season and still on air, when misty was still hanging around with ash and when we could see serena/usagi eat dango and fall over on the villian. xD
mine were classics or big ass robots you decide :D
Started watching anime since 4. My first anime was digimon, then about the same time pokemon. Inuyasha and Ranma 1/2 (animated ver.) was pretty good also. Currently watching one piece, Ranma 1/2 (Comic), Super radical gag family (浦安é‰,,ç‹å®¶æ—- not sure anyone watch this ;013 ), Sexy Commando Gaiden: Sugoiyo!! Masaru-san and let's go! inachu ping pong club.
sailor moon was too girly for me ;020
I agree with you there KGM
Quote from: "stewartsage"I agree with you there KGM
which part are you agreeing with?
Sailor Moon being girly
I second this notion... not surprising, I'm more of a seinen/shonen person and never been particularly keen on magical girl as a genre.

Hey! Same here ;012 ;019
Magical girl is definitely not my style, but I have an unfortunate weakness for shoujo manga, I think.
EDIT: Correction, there is one magical girl I'm okay with:
Both Sailor Moon and Pokemon. back in like 96 to 98, when pioneer still held the distribution rights to both.
I believe it was Dragonball. I could have been watching Sailor Moon earlier, though.
SAILOR MOON!! My sister and i would actually stay up all night so that we didn't miss it:D
My first anime was pokemon but... I think that if I could have picked I would have gone with Zachbelle
I believe I posted in this topic ages ago, but the first I ever saw was Sailor Moon; which my sister was obsessed over. A few years later, I discovered Pokémon :3
Would either Puffy AmiYumi or Teen Titans count (i HIGHLY doubt it.)?
either than those, Inuyasha.
Mine's still Azumanga Daioh.
Speed Racer and later Pokemon.
@dustii: that's tricky, given that the Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi Show seems to have been japanese in concept, but not in style, while teen titans was american in concept, but japanese in style.
if that's the case, i'd say yes to TT and grey area to HHPAYS.
sailor moon still. -w-
As far as I can remember I'd go with the Über Classic Mazinger Z... But could have watched Cap'n Crucharlock
