Nice! Now I'm tempted to draw a Carmeldansen (err... however the heck it's spelled!) parody too! ;010

I recognize the other girl too- it's Haiku-tan!

Well they are cute, no doubt about it,....

But...

What's with the war part?  Those two look about ready to dance a gig or something.  @__@

(their poses look mighty familiar, though: http://ostan-collections.net/post-50297.html#50297 )

The fact that you, aparently, don't know that they're dancing Caramelldansen disturbs me. A lot.

Seems to me that you have been living under a rock for a pretty long time. So I command you to watch this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UX6e7sO1ss0)

Matter of fact, I have been living under a rock,... several at least.....  -.-;

So wait, they dance this,... "Caramel Sundae Whatsis"....over and over again for 2 minutes straight?  Ooooooooookay.... @.@

.....

I fancy that if this were turned into a 3-hour Rave tune, they'd wear out their hips.  ^^;

What hurts me the most is that people do not recognise they actually parodise the Popotan opening, they just call it "caramelldansen".

They are Haiku (left) and Tiger (right) anyway.
Title: OK, I'm guilty
Post by: NejinOniwa on June 07, 2008, 04:05:03 PM
Well. I've probably seen the original remake (with Popotan's characters and Caramelldansen) once or twice, and read it was from there.

The amount of times I've seen other remakes, with this song, is HUEG. So now it's just called Caramelldansen...

EVOLUTION OF MEMES 101!?

Funny is that, "Caramelldansen" is a pretty old thing.
The recent super hueg popularity is probably because of the japanese finding out about it. IIRC originally the caramelldansen was a "western" idea.

Actually I recall Popotan OP parodies with different characters before the first caramelldansen ever appeared.

The popotan dance was good and funny, but adding Caramelldansen to the mix made it godly.

Also, arguing about how it should be called its as silly as the whole GNU/Linux naming debate. IMHO.

But of course, I don't recall saying "people is stupid, it should be called Popotan OP parody, not caramelldansen".

What's so stupid about the GNU/Linux debate anyway? I don't think it's even a debate; it's GNU/Linux, Linux just refers to the kernel, period.

QuoteWhat's so stupid about the GNU/Linux debate anyway? I don't think it's even a debate; it's GNU/Linux, Linux just refers to the kernel, period.

It's silly because a lot of people are already used to call it Linux. It's more simple saying "Linux" than "GNU slash linux". It's not like anyone who takes the time to learn about Linux will be oblivious to the fact that Linux is just the kernel.

It's like going to a store and asking for 9.8 Newtons instead of 1 Kg of something. It's technically more correct, but people are used to using Kg (or pounds, whatever they use in the USA).

And this ends here. I don't even use Linux to care about naming conventions, and this thread is about dancing.
woo.

So two wrongs make a right, right?

QuoteIt's like going to a store and asking for 9.8 Newtons instead of 1 Kg of something. It's technically more correct, but people are used to using Kg (or pounds, whatever they use in the USA).
It's not, because you are referring to the mass, not the weight.
They are different units for different measures.

Hey! That's not right either! Newton is measurement for force, in this case the force created by gravity pulling an object of a certain mass in its direction; Kilograms are measurement for mass, which is what we're trying to find out here. If you measured by Newton instead, 9.8 N of apples would be much more on the moon than here on Earth! And-

...okay. I'll shut up.

In mechanics, Newtons are used to measure force *and weight*
I failed to explain the context.

In everyday's life, when you go to the store, when people say Kilograms they think they're referring to the weight, but using mass units. That's why it's technically incorrect.

QuoteSo you spoke, so it shall be.

For the GNU/Linux naming debate, from my side of the tubes its over. I'm not stopping you from discussing it with someone else. EDIT: *Preferably in other thread.*
Quote
We just call it weight, even though its totally wrong.

This is my point.

The mass is constant, no matter the gravity. The weight is M*g=N, thus a function of the mass of an object and the gravity that affects it. One kilogram of apples is always one kilogram of apples, no matter where you might be it's always the same amount; However, 9.8 Newton of apples, while being 1 kg on earth, is in outer space so many apples Even Horo Wouldn't Eat Them All.
One kilogram of apples is always one kilogram of apples. We just call it weight, even though its totally wrong.

GNU/Linux matters, I'm not getting into.

.
Yes, but a balance calculates the MASS, which is what most of the people think it's the weight.
It's not a technical mistake, it's just using the wrong term, from a pratical standpoint using kilograms or newtons is NOT the same thing.

Anyway I've posted my cd, since this is a war I can't post another one until someone else does.

QuoteYou got the rest of the frames on the go as well, Aurora?

Actually, the way they're drawn, it shouldn't be very hard at all to animate that.  It certainly requires far fewer frames than my last unfinished GIFs:

http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/10570/win2.gif
http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/albums/userpics/10570/DancingOS9.gif

You only need to animate up to the point where they swing their hips to the left -- the rest can just reuse the same animation frames but in reverse.  I would say 5 key frames are required, for a total of 10 frames for the main movement, plus two quarter-second pauses during the pinnacle of each hip swing.

There really aren't that many free GIF animation applications, due to patent issues (as well as a drive towards new alternatives).

Problem with Image ready is that it doesnt have a very friendly animation interface.. at least when I last used it. Tho its what I planed on using for my carmeldansen.

GIMP can handle GIF animation, and the interface is friendly enough for me to use, but I doubt it's the best software for the task.

According to the Wikipedia article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imageready

Imageready should be bundled with all releases from Photoshop 5.5 going forward.  I myself own 6.0, so I've used ImageReady quite comfortably for a few years now (and it runs quite solid in Wine).  Admittedly, while Gimp GAP is a fine solution for people on a budget (and who don't want to skim the surfaces for questionable shareware), it's not really the same thing -- then again, for legal reasons, it's not really a feature that can be perfected much to begin with.  ;)

Much like Flash, GIF is a proprietary solution that is best worked with a proprietary program.  Despite its flaws, Imageready is workable, offers a very robust timeline and optimization functions, and is usually bundled with PS.  :D

I'm wondering,.... it may not be displayed as an icon in your Applications folder , but it might still be accessible from within Photoshop.  See if you can click on that bottom icon in the main toolbar (it looks like an eye in version 6.0) -- this is the ImageReady Quick Link.

Worse comes to worse, work on the frames with confidence, then one of us can compile the images into a nice GIF animation for you.  ^^

QuoteIsn't there a .png-based variant that can store animated layers?

That would be "MNG"...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mng

...but it's not well supported by anything.  Animated SVGs probably have more browser support than MNGs ever will, and that's saying A LOT.  ^^;

Actually, it was APNG i was thinking about, which is supported by Gran Paradiso a3 and upwards - meaningly, once Firefox 3 goes out of Release Candidate stage somewhere now in June, the support for APNG should increase to some 20% or what now it is FF is holding, of all internet users (provided, of course, that all users immediately update their browser to FF3 over FF2, which is not likely to happen, but still).

Still, I don't even know what program to encode it with >_>
