Okay, people. It's that time of the year again.
What's that? What time?
IT'S CHALLENGE TIME, YOU DUMBASSAnd this time, we're going to go with the infamous Nuzlocke challenge. I'm fairly certain most of us have at least one pokémon game somewhere - or enough cpu power to emulate one. So without further ado...here goes.
I'm probably going to be playing HeartGold or SoulSilver, but I might also do one on Black/White 2 when I can get my hands on them.
POST BRIEF RESULTS OF YOUR RUN HERE EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE: INCLUDE GYMS DEFEATED, POKEMON CAUGHT AND CASUALTIES.
Rock on.
This makes me want to dust off that old Pokémon Crystal challenge run I started back in 2011
Yeah, I'm a bit tempted to get back on my SoulSilver Gym Leader run, as well. We'll see if I do... :)
i lost my files for the gym leader challenges so i'd have to start over on those. but i've been wanting to do Nuzlocke for awhile, and was wondering when you'd pick up on it. this seems like the perfect excuse.
now guys, i was using Ruby and Crystal for my gym leader challenges, so should i go with Gen1 for this or should i go with Gen3 cause that's when the titular pokemon actually appeared?
also, my Nuzlocke will consist of the basics, but instead of releasing them i'ma put them in the PC and forget about them. (box 12 or something.) cause i hate releasing my pokemon, it's too sad. ;^;
i'll abide by the "one pokemon per route" rule but i think i'm gonna do the rest on easy mode since i anticipate having a tough time with this. also, is that "we can only catch one pokemon per route" or "we can only catch one pokemon PER VISIT to a route"?
Quoteit's too sad. ;^;
BUT THAT'S THE THING.
When they faint...they're DONE FOR. Bye-bye forever, no second tries.
It's SUPPOSED to be sad, and it's SUPPOSED to make you angry when you lose them. Nuzlocke is half about the difficulty, and half about the emotional rollercoaster it makes of an otherwise boring grind.
so i can't just toss them in the PC (mausoleum) instead of releasing them (burying them in the ground)? i wouldn't use them again, obviously, they're "dead".
let me see if I can make my rom of b/w work...
kickass, we got us a 4th member. the gym leader challenge only had 3.
now the question is, which version do i pick....
EDIT: nej, i have another question, what happens if the first pokemon we meet on a route faints? is that route then considered a wash?
It's a wash. Be more careful next time!
There is an optional rule that allows you to skip to the next one if it's a duplicate (you've already got it in your dex), however.
And NO, using the PC as a mausoleum is cheating as well. That way you can just say "well ok I lost him but I can always go back and look at him whenever I want", NONE OF THAT. Lose a guy, it's GAME. OVER. for him.
ARE YOU MANLY ENOUGH TO DO THIS, MINION
I'LL TRY, MASTER
glad about the skipping doubles rule. helpful.
NOW TO DECIDE WHICH VERSION TO USE ;^;
EDIT: what do i do if i get an egg, master?

NUZLOCKE CHALLENGE TIIIIME
Eggs and gift pokemon are yours to do whatever you wish with, afaik. Heh heh heh...
mel posed an interesting question, WHAT DO IF FIND WANDERING POKEMON (entei, raikou, etc) ON THE SAME ROUTE AS A POKEMON YOU'VE ALREADY CAUGHT?
also, is it only one poke per route or one poke per VISIT to a route? you never answered me on that. :\
One poke per route only. For example, I accidentally the weedle on my journey to Mr Pokemon's house; when I go back there on my way north, I still won't be allowed to try catch anything. One shot per route, period.
So I've completed the intro storyline and got my balls handed to me and shit (hue hue), so there shouldn't be much stupid segments left.
THE TEAM AS OF NOW:
Scramjet the Chikorita - Lv6 (Tackle, Growl, Razor Leaf)
Awesome the Glaceon - Lv5 (Powder Snow, Sand Attack, Scratch, Growl)
Bonk the ScoutPidgey - Lv6 (Tackle, Sand Attack)
Twitch the Rattata - Lv6 (Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack)
Moving onward!
Found and Fixed HG... Startin' my Journey...
My DStarter: WarHero II
I think I'm going to start on this later tonight
Started this with Pokemon White, its good to get back into Pokemon every once and a while.
Hopefully my PSVita won't get to lonely as I play on the 'ol DS Lite...
Will post progress every once and a while.
so we ARE allowed to gameshark, or does nej suddenly acquire a glaceon every time?
still deciding, ugh.
in the spirit of the game, the only AR code I'll use is the one preventing the black screen
Like I said, I had to use an old save in order as a base in order to overcome my save file issues, and while I was at it I added in some balls as well; this was to enable following the rules right away, however, so I didn't have to wait for completing the introplot to start nuzlocke-ing. I will likely box Awesome at some point, though - she is rather overpowered at the moment (evolved and all that), but when we progress further into it she'll get more in line with the competition. I do need to fill up my team first, though, so I'll keep her until then.
okay. i'ma start a new file and i think i'll go with ruby, since it contains the nuzlocke's namesake.
I don't know if I could do this, I've had an emotional attachment to these creatures ever since the show came out.
I don't know if I could kill them like that.
But I will try, with a rom of Emerald.
My current team consists of:
Mudkip lv.15 Male Tackle, bide, Mud-slap, Water-gun
Ralts lv.12 Female Growl, Confusion
Lotad lv.4 Female Astonish, Growl
Seedot lv.3 Female Bide, Harden
Zigzagoon lv.3 Male Tackle, Growl
Wingull lv.4 Male Growl, Watergun
Alright, people! Status report.
I'm currently up in Azalea town, preparing to take on the 2nd gym (Bugsy). I've just dumped my dear Awesome in the box, feeling that my current team is well farmed enough to take on whatever comes its way - and she is quite overpowered, anyway. I figure I will refrain from using her until I find an Eevee or something - that, or run out of other decent party members.
I've not had a single fatality so far, but I've had 2 Weedles die on me while catching them, so there goes 2 routes' worth of pokemans. Dearie me.
I've avoided catching any pokemon down in the Slowpoke Well so far, and the same goes for the Sprout tower; I'm probably going to trek back up to the tower later tonight to see if I can catch a Ghastly. This project should be decently safe; since we're playing with the "no doubles" rule, and I already have caught both a Bellsprout and a Rattata - which are the only other pokemon that appear in the tower as far as I know - I should be able to safely net me one ghostie.
ENOUGH PLANNING! THE TEAM SO FAR:
[Box] Potaters, Lv6 Bellsprout
Singah, Lv7 Zubat
Lifeline, Lv6 Spearow
Awesome, Lv13 Glaceon
[Party] Surprise, Lv7 Togepi
Bonk, Lv14 Pidgey
Scramjet, Lv14 Chikorita
Malachite, Lv16 Geodude
Twitch, Lv14 Rattata
I'll probably be farming up to finish these evolutions on my main party members soon enough, so yeah. Allons-y!
SOME FARMING LATER...
Singah is Lv8 and in the Party, Surprise is Lv11 and in the Box, and we welcome our newest team member: ZHUGE LIANG THE MOTHERFUCKING LV6 GHASTLY, captured by a plan as cunning as it was dastardly.
Fuuuck yeeeah, ghost types.
EDIT: MFW when facing a Beedrill with Zhuge, who keeps spamming Fury Attack against me while I whittle him down without getting a scratch
MY ZUBAT
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
i assume we're not allowed to catch a new [insert pokemon here] once the one we had is 'dead'. :\
Well, you can if you want to - but that means spending a catch on a route you haven't been to, like usual. You CAN catch dupes if you want, but doing so still counts as a catch on that route.
My current team consists of:
Marshstomp lv.16 Male Ralts lv.13 Female
Tackle, Bide, Mud-slap, Water-gun Growl, Confusion, Double Team
Wingull lv.16 Male Skitty lv.7 Female
Growl, Watergun, Supersonic, Wing Attack Growl, Tackle, Tail Whip, Attract
Seedot lv.3 Female Zigzagoon lv.3 Male
Bide, Harden Tackle, Growl
Lotad Died
They all have the Pkrs for some reason
I beat Roxane
You might have encountered a wild Pokémon that has Pokérus while training. If you don't know, that's a good thing; as it helps make them stronger :3
Marshstomp lv.21 Male Ralts lv.13 Female
Tackle, Rock-Tomb, Mud-Shot, Water-gun Growl, Confusion, Double Team
Wingull lv.24 Male Skitty lv.14 Female
Growl, Watergun, Supersonic, Wing Attack Growl, Tackle, Tail Whip, Sing
Nuzleaf lv.14 Female Zigzagoon lv.3 Male
Bide, Nature Power, Bullet-Seed, Growth Tackle, Growl, Cut
Thanks for telling me.
Beat Brawly
So, I'm starting this up, and because I feel like it, I'm kickin' it old school by playing through the original English version of Pokemon Blue. Thus, the adventure of Penti vs. Gary M. (Yes, the "M" means exactly what you think it does -w-) begins.
So, after I catch or fail to catch the initial Pokemon for a route, am I then allowed to use said route to level grind, or is level grinding not allowed at all?
-Current team-
Agumon: Lv6 Charmander
Blackjack: Lv4 Pidgey
Highwind: Lv3 Spearow
had some issues saving....

Level grinding is allowed as much as you bloody well want to, chap. :)
Marshstomp lv.21 Male Kirlia lv.21 Female
Tackle, Rock-Tomb, Mud-Shot, Water-gun Growl, Confusion, Double Team, Teleport
Wingull lv.24 Male Skitty lv.14 Female
Growl, Watergun, Supersonic, Wing Attack Growl, Tackle, Tail Whip, Sing
Nuzleaf lv.14 Female Zigzagoon lv.3 Male
Bide, Nature Power, Bullet-Seed, Growth Tackle, Growl, Cut
Ladies and gents, let me tell you a little something...
GAMBLING PAYS OFF :D
I was too impatient to wait until the last gym to get one, so I spent some half hour in the Game Corner and LOOKIE WHAT I GOT :D
Introducing, HARKNESS THE MOTHERFUCKING LV15 DRATINI
Because as we all know, Dratinis are the sexiest thing since ANYTHING.
Now it's time to kick some gym leader ass with this bitch.
DRAGON'S RAGE BITCHEZZZ
All my pokemon died against the electric gym leader, I wasn't ready...*sob*
First Kirlia, then Nuzleaf, then Marshtomp, then Wingull, Skitty and Zigzagoon never stood a chance.
Wtf, how can you lose Marshtomp that easily in an Electric gym? He's Water/Ground, dude.
You shouldn't even have brought Wingull there, though - that's just tempting fate.
:'( yeah...
if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
though this has made me tempted to catch a backup team in case of this eventuality. >>;
@nej: BADASS MOVE MASTER! >:3
Currently in Viridian Forest; training my newest party member a bit (I typically keep everyone evenly-leveled). My newly-caught Caterpie had an epic power struggle with a Metapod that was one level higher than it; which made for a tense fight >:3
-Current Party-
BaconDick: Lv5 Caterpie (Tackle, String Shot)
Agumon: Lv6 Charmander (Scratch, Growl)
Blackjack: Lv6 Pidgey (Gust, Sand Attack)
Highwind: Lv6 Spearow (Peck, Growl)
Monty: Lv6 Rattata (Tackle, Tail Whip)
I'm gonna try again with Fire red
New current team
Charmeleon lv.16 Male Rattata lv.3 Male
Scratch, Growl, Ember, Metal Claw Tackle, Tail-whip
Pidgey lv.3 Female Pikachu lv.3 Male
Tackle Thundershock, growl
Caterpie lv.4 Male
Tackle, Stringshot
Good luck :3
So, I made it to Pewter City. I just narrowly avoided losing Agumon and Monty, thanks to a Weedle, but with some studying of how much HP it takes away when walking back to the Pokémon Center, combined with some strategically used potions (The only two I had), I was able to help both of them survive.
Also, BaconDick evolved into a Metapod. Insert your own joke here
-Current Party-
Agumon: Lv7 Charmander (Scratch, Growl)
Blackjack: Lv7 Pidgey (Gust, Sand Attack)
Highwind: Lv7 Spearow (Peck, Growl)
Monty: Lv7 Rattata (Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack)
BaconDick: Lv7 Metapod (Tackle, String Shot)
Simon, may I ask why you're keeping your starter so MUCH far ahead of the others? It makes for bad balance, in my experience. Grind the others some first!
Also, Pent, while it's pretty good to keep your levels even I'd much advise you to get on the Mt. Moon route a bit and grind some more. In my experience you need average levels of at least 10 when taking on Brock, and in your case I'd recommend a bit more still since you don't have a starter with a type advantage.
A few nasty crashes with my Emulator has screwed me over a bit, but my save file is still in shape and I'm keeping backups to be safe. Worst case scenario I'll just grab the backups and export them to my flashcart or something.
THE TEAM:
Gendou - Lv16 Vulpix
Harkness - Lv21 Dratini
Zhugeliang - Lv21 Gastly
Malachite - Lv22 Geodude
Twitch - Lv20 Raticate
Scramjet - Lv19 Bayleef
RESERVES:
Bonk - Lv18 Pidgeotto
Awesome - Lv13 Glaceon
Diabeetus - Lv12 Drowzee
Marley - Lv5 Oddish
Lifeline - Lv6 Spearow
Surprise - Lv11 Togepi
Potaters - Lv6 Bellsprout
I'm in Ecruteak at the moment, preparing to take on various Gyms and Towers for much winnage. Gendou learns Flamethrower at 24, after which I'll be looking for a Fire Stone to evolve her with; Malachite and Zhuge both evolve at 25, and Harkness hits stage 2 at 30. I'm keeping around Twitch for safety since he's just what I need against the Ghost gym (Normal-type makes him immune to most of their moves, and he has a bunch of Dark-type moves), but after that I think the rat might be going into the box. I'll see what I can find to replace him with...
I'm a bit sad that neither Zhuge nor Malachite will be able to evolve to their maximum levels due to FUCKING TRADE EVOLVES, but w/e.
And man, Harkness is so fucking badass I'm almost crying. DRAGON'S RAGE, BITCHES, 1HKO EVERYDAY, IGNORE DEFENSES LIKE A BAWSE
@Nej: You can't access the Mt. Moon route until after you beat Brock. Someone standing right at the edge of town will stop you and take you to the Gym every time, until you have the Boulder Badge :\
Also, I'm currently grinding right now outside of Viridian Forest. I'm trying to get BaconDick up to level 12, so it'll learn Confusion; which is my best shot
That sounds excellent. Keep in mind, however, that as a Bug/Flying type he has a 4x weakness to Rock-type moves...
It might be beneficial for you to get some status-inducers mixed in there; alternately, just blast on with non-physical moves best you can. Heck, Charmander's Ember works fine enough most of the time, and he's beefy enough to take a few hits if you grind him a bit.
The fire red rom is fucked up, I can't save
@Nej: Noted. I'll likely have my Charmander on backup, as well as Rattata if I get it to level 14 (Hyper Fang is powerful early in >:3)
It might be an issue with your emulator's save type, which is especially common if you're using Nocash. Check the settings for your save type.
It's the VisualBoyAdvance Emulater
I'd recommend you switch over to Nocash, in that case - while autodetect is a bit crappy, you can usually fix the save type if you take a few minutes (or just google it).
I'm interested in this Pokemanz challenge. Buuut I need to download no$gba and the Pokemon games so I'll have to give it a miss :(
Or you can just, I mean, go about and do that and join in when you're ready. :)
doeet. :3

currently playing as Nutella the Crystal Trainer. rival's name is Biscoff. about to go up the route from Cherrygrove to Violet City. i'd like to catch one more before i challenge Falkner, which would be interesting given that since it's nightime there's a whole host of new pokemon. (in 3 battles i saw a Hoothoot, Spinarak and Poliwag. couldn't catch any though since they're on the route i caught Sora. >>; )
Oh, Crystal. That takes me way back, it does. I remember being all torn up by my old black brick Classic Gameboy couldn't play it, and I ended up getting a GBA so I could actually use the cartridge I'd got...
It was good times, it was, and probably the last of the pokemon games I really was "into" at that first stage of things. I actually bought Sapphire when they came out, but by that time (2003) I was a fair bit more grown up, and I had to get it with my own money as well. While I did like it quite a bit, and many of the new Pokémon were just awesome, it just wasn't as expansive or clear-cut as Crystal had been. Hell, some of the features in Crystal were actually REMOVED for R/S. Though they ended up putting them in Emerald, which is in my opinion the best G3 game by far, but at that point I'd already moved away from the handhelds and started using emulators for everything.
Crystal was (and is) my favourite of the "classic style" Pokemon games (i say "classic style" because i mean where you run around and catch things, unlike games like Stadium, Trozei, Snap, etc etc.). considering someone was already challenging, g3, i figured going g2 was my best bet. plus, it's the first one where you can be a girl. -w-
speaking of which, at the past time of writing my entire team was female. i've since caught 2 more, so now only 5/6 are female. -w-
NEW POKEMANS
Shui the Poliwag (male)
lv 5 (currently)
Bubble
Enyo the Zubat (female)
lv 3 (currently)
Leech Life
I nearly went with Crystal, but since I still have the file for my old Wooper-only run I never finished, I decided to instead do Blue. It's been a long time since I played a G1 game, so I figured I'd go for it.
So, I just narrowly defeated Brock. BaconDick was in the red, having soloed all of Brock's Pokémon, but I managed to pull through before Onix could catch me with the energy it built-up with Bide; leading me to victory. Now, healed up, I prepare to head toward Mt. Moon
-Current party: picture form-
@K: Yeah, I keep getting almost full female teams as well. It's really weird...
It'd be good enough in some cases (Dratini for example) weren't it for the fact that you're not allowed to do any Breeding in this gamemode -_-
One last update before bed.
I'm now outside of Mt. Moon, with my party at about level 14 or so. Also, there's a new addition; a Jigglypuff named Eggie, which was a pain to get and level up due to only knowing Sing, but once she hit level 9, she was more than capable of holding her own with Pound.
On this route, I kept constantly running into Pidgeys and Spearows; of which I already have (Blackjack and Highwind, respectively), so I was starting to think it was a bust until I encountered a Jigglypuff
nice one on the new pokemans, man. -w- pound is really useful, and sing might seem stupid now, but just wait around until you can lull Sabrina's powerhouses to sleep and just chip away at them. -w- (i'm really thankful Shui has hypnosis now, i don't think i'm gonna get rid of it (ever) despite it being a really early move.)
@nej: the funny thing is, this is only the second time i can remember getting a female starter. it seems like you typically have a 1/3 chance of getting a chick starter, but usually the one i pick is male. funnier still, the other time was on my physical Crystal cartridge.
i'ma update after, since i'm still playing. :3
EDIT:
yes, both Hotaru and Tanuko have evolved. -w- Tanuko's power caps out pretty soon (considering the biggest move i have to look forward to is either Fury Swipes or Rest....yeah), but for right now she's a solid base pokemon. current stats are as follows:
Hotaru the Quilava (female; starter)
lv 14 (closer to 15, actually)
Tackle
Leer
Smokescreen
Ember
Sora the Pidgey (female)
lv 13
Tackle
Sand Attack
Gust
Tanuko the Furret (female)
lv. 15
Tackle
Defense Curl
Quick Attack
Jade the Geodude (female)
lv. 11
Tackle
Defense Curl
Rock Throw
Shui the Poliwag (male)
lv. 10
Bubble
Hypnosis
Egg (genderless atm)
just got it
i could throw it at stuff but that would defeat the purpose of even having it since it would die
box'd:
Enyo the Zubat (female)
lv. 10
Leech Life
Supersonic
to give a brief status update, after level grinding for a few hours to get everyone 10+ (and then to evolve Hotaru and Tanuko since they were so close anyway), i went after Falkner, who was a bit of a cakewalk. netted me a good pool of cash, a badge, and a TM for Mud Slap; i'm thinking of using it on Shui since he's the only one who CAN use it, anyway (unless by some miracle Jade can learn it, but somehow i doubt it). will go off to the Ruins of Alph and Union Cave after taking on the Bellsprout Tower tomorrow.
A bit of a tip for eggs: there are Hoppip on the route just east of Azalea, and they DO NOT HAVE ANY OFFENSIVE MOVES if I recall correctly. I'd verify that first, of course, but even a lv1 togepi can beat a lv8 hoppip with no offensive moves.
I think.
Otherwise just use the power of swappage ;)
As fore male/female starters, believe it or not it's even lower. All starters have a 12.5% chance of being female, versus 87.5% of being male. So getting a female starter is incredibly lucky indeed, since it allows for breeding...
...if we weren't playing Nuzlocke. :|
I beat the Ecruteak Gym yesterday, btw! Dratini is fucking amazing. :D
I just ran into Entei. In the water. Leading with a Lv24 Geodude against a legendary 16 levels higher.
I was fucking scared, man ;_;
Luckily he just ran off, but still EEK
Y U NO CATCH
but srsly, IN THE WATER? THE FIRE LEGENDARY? THE FUCK??
makes about as much sense as this:
after completion of nuzlocke, if Hotaru is still alive, then i will breed. she'll have earned it by then. -w-
(now, just to find a ditto who isn't going to be scared off by her.)
about to start playin' again. i think i might go to the route beyond violet and catch something first, since sprout tower is gonna be a great opportunity to level up. :3
I no catch because 1: Nuzlocke and 2: Not a chance in hell of doing so if I tried. My highest pokemon is Lv25, remember...
If you need breeding partners just look up their egg groups (http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/egg/ground.shtml). For Cyndaquil it's actually really damn easy.
DRAGONAIR, BITCHEZZZZ
Ok, so Team Status:
Harkness Lv30 Dragonair (FUCK YEAH)
Gendou Lv20 Vulpix
Malachite Lv25 Graveler
Zhugeliang Lv25 Haunter
Twitch Lv21 Raticate
Scramjet Lv24 Bayleef
I also recently caught a Lv24 Tentacruel, which I named Cthulu, and Bubbles, a Lv23 Poliwag. We'll see what comes of those two - I might swing one in to replace The Rat sooner or later.
our of frustration, i threw a pokeball at a growlithe without doing anything else first. and i caught it. 8)
WANG FIRE, BITCHESSSS
Yeah, Growlithe and Vulpix both are a fucking pain to catch due to Roar. I just put my Gastly up on the front and put her to sleep, but that works too sometimes ^^
So, I'm now in Cerulean City. Things went well, as I added a Geodude named "Dood" (Because Disgaea) that I found in Mt. Moon, and a Sandshrew named "Raichu" (It's an old in-joke about a poorly-made Pokémon matching game on the official website xD) that I found on Route 4. Dood's rock-solid defense (pun intended) made him a force to be reckoned with. But, since the next gym up is water-based, he's hiding out in my PC (As will Agumon, once I make the trek toward Bill's house, and catch something new to train.
Sadly, Raichu the Sandshrew was not meant to be; as it died at the hands of a Rattata twice its level right after I healed it up and was about to begin training it ;_;
-Current party-
Agumon: Lv15 Charmander
Highwind: Lv15 Spearow
Monty: Lv15 Rattata
Eggie: Lv15 Jigglypuff

@Nej:
So, everyone in my current team is up to level 17; as I tore through Gary M's team like they were nothing (Well, that Pidgeotto was a worthy opponent of my Charmeleon; that battle was neck-and-neck).
Now, I take a break for the night. I'll go after the Nugget Bridge next, and attempt to catch some more 'mons on my way to Bill's house (Which gives me time to train for the battle with Misty)
forgot to update last night. got through union cave, but not before catching a Rattata at Sprout Tower and having the egg hatch in Violet City. in the meantime, i've also caught a Hoppip. i kept running into doubles in Union Cave, but finally found a Wooper as well. outside of it, i also kept running into doubles, except this morning, when i caught a Ekans.

EDIT: narrowly beat Biscoff the rival when i was searching for better training grounds in the Ilex Forest.
So, I just tackled Nugget Bridge. Compared to the battle with Gary right before, those trainers were easy -w-
Now, I take a break; with plans to head to the grassy field and try to catch something new :3
nugget bridge always seems easy....it's like taking gold from little kids. wait, you are. how is this a good thing again?
i hath begun on my MAD DASH TRAINING SEQUENCE (aka Evolution Training). level 20+ or bust!!
Nice. My party is currently about level 17, with a few at 18. I plan on having them at about 20 or so before I set foot in Misty's gym
Man, splitting my time between my run of W2 and Nuzlocke is making my head spin. There's so much weird shit going on in G5...
TACKLE HAS A BASE DAMAGE OF 50, THE WHAT
EXPERIENCE POINTS ARE MODULAR AND SCALE DEPENDING ON LEVEL DIFFERENCE (meaning, it's easier to get up to par but a lot harder to get overleveled)
THE C-GEAR IS MADE OF SHIT
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
they're wearing their important hats.
i'm 2 pokemon into the training. i still need to give sora a bit more since she's not to level 20 yet, but evolving is nothing to sniff at. i've been approaching this training more strategically, as Emi was mostly trained in Union Cave (where her Water Gun could kick some rock and ground-based ass) while Sora was trained in Ilex Forest, where her Gust blew away the Bug and Grass-types. not sure who to train next, i'm thinking one of my fire-types (either Wang Fire or Hotaru), since they're higher-level than the rest, meaning they won't take as long. either that, or Shui, who's currently level 16. his attacks, however, make him a bit of a bitch to train. :\
my nuzlocke is on hiatus... going reg on the SS
well, maybe you can update with your status on that. :\
now that Sora is at level 20, i've switched gears to train Hebito. progress was at first slow, but switching training areas from Ilex Forest to Route 33 has helped, as has Hebito learning Bite at lv. 15 (means he can take down a geodude on his own rather than having Sora finish it off). Hebito will evolve at lv. 22, at which point i'll switch gears to train someone else, maybe Lemongrass.
well, since I'm still starting I have gone bitching about saving issues I beat the bird Gym Leader, but the Rom crashed...
which allowed me to find some poke I had not found (bellsprout) and some twice, so I can trade...
and get something I didn't want, but now have
Ad Finished the Sproutower, and Back to fight against the Gym Leader
Remember, kids: leave no stone unturned
I meant to post that pic while it was still semi-relevant (When I was in Mt. Moon), but oh well. The message of "check anything that looks suspicious for hidden items" still stands -w-
So, I just went out on route 24 and managed to catch a Bellsprout. I was a bit disappointed when I found I can only catch a Oddish on Red, but Cactaur the Bellsprout will prove useful against Misty later, after some training
Vulpix died while I was grinding for the Cianwood Gym challenge ;_;
TENTACOOL, DAMN YOUUUU
Swagtotem has evolved to Xatu, however, so that's good.
EDIT:
Finished the Cianwood gym without fatalities. CLOSE CALL MASTERR
Alrighty. I've been hunted by glitches today, but now I'm finally saved up enough to give some definite statements...
I'm on the hunt for Entei. I have him asleep and at half HP, and I just caught myself a Misdreavus to keep him from running with Mean Look. Route 35 is yet to be used for a catch, and it's fairly easy to get him there. I'm going to train my little ghostie first to make sure he survives that battle (and possibly take the Steel gym while I'm at it) but after we're done with that, it's dog hunting time.
THE TEAM:
Zhugeliang, lv31 Haunter
Swagtotem, lv26 Xatu
Malachite, Lv26 Graveler
Harkness, Lv33 Dragonair
Reich, Lv18 Seel
Magistreus, Lv20 Misdreavus
Scramjet, Bonk, Cthulu and Twitch are sitting in the box 'cuz I'm training my new bitches.
And I mean bitches. It's like, out of all the pokémon I've ever USED throughout the game, only 3 are male. Bonk, Scramjet and Zhugeliang. THE REST ARE ALL FEMALE, WHAT THE FUCK.
THOSE WHO DIDN'T MAKE IT:
Singah the Zubat
Gendou the Vulpix
YOU WILL BE MISSED ;_;
EDIT: Man, the Steel gym is such a pushover. I didn't take a single point of damage whooping Jasmine's (rather sexy) ass...
The team remains the same, but levels are:
Reich lv25, Magistreus lv24, Malachite lv27, Zhugeliang lv32, Harkness and Swagtotem remain at 26/33 respectively.
NOW BEGINS THE HUNT FOR ENTEI
GOOD LUCK, MASTER
sucks about your vulpix. ;^; on the bright side, WE NOW KNOW NEJ'S TYPE
training is going well. -w-
My type? But I thought we already established I'm an Ice-type, what with the vikingness and Glaceon-moe and all.
>hurr "Nejin's type" in a pokemon thread
Also EEVEE GET!
While Ternity the Eevee I just got from Bill will probably be hanging in the box for a good while, I CAN NOW UNLEASH THE AWESOME.
Take it bitchezzz
Edit (5 minutes of farming up Glaceon later): I FUCKING LOVE THIS POKEMON SO DAMN MUCH
ENTEI, BITCHEZZZZZI named it Teide, because volcanoes hurr.
EDIT:
I'M ON A ROLL, RAIKOU IS ALSO IN THE BAND NOW
BADASSERY, MASTER!!!
as for nej's type, well, we were aware nej was an ice-type, but i didn't know he was weak (in the knees) against steel types. :3
(i'm a psychic type. -w-)
Beat the Bird boy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcG9OfXRwcI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcG9OfXRwcI)
got trapped in letterland
I'm an Electric type -w-
I plan on playing more when I get home tonight
Kari, did you miss the memo on what types are super-effective against Ice-types? Fire, Rock, Steel and Fighting. Of course I'm weak against Steel-types if I'm an Ice-type! That goes without saying!
I'm pretty much a Psychic/water kinda guy..
We've kicked the asses of Team Rocket twice, and we're on our way to the last Gym. THE TEAM:
Magistreus, lv37 Mismagius
Scramjet, lv31 Bayleef
Harkness, lv34 Dragonair
Reich, lv34 Dewgong
Awesome, lv30 Glaceon
Swagtotem, lv26 Xatu
BOX:
Zhugeliang, lv33 Haunter
Clause, lv30 Red Gyarados
Romulus, lv40 Raikou
Teide, lv40 Entei
Invus, lv23 Electrode
Cthulu, lv24 Tentacruel
Malachite, lv27 Graveler
I probably need someone with Strength soon, though, so I'll likely bring out Malachite for that. Likewise, Clause and Cthulu will probably soon see use as HM-slaves for Waterfall and Whirlpool (not sure if the term applies if it's just one single HM, but hey).
ONWARD WE MARCH
...and now, a special message:
So, Cactaur hit level 18, as I now make my way toward Bill's house on Route 25. Also, Blackjack was just narrowly killed by a Spearow; squeezing by with just 1HP left .__.;
But, Blackjack evolved into a Pidgeotto, so everything is good now.
Also, I tried to catch an Abra, but the damn thing broke out of the Pokéball and teleported away >_<
EDIT:
So, now I'm just about ready to tackle Misty. I think I'll get everyone up a level or two more, especially Cactaur, and then charge in -w-
@nej: then no wonder you like jasmine. she's super-effective. :3
still in training! Wang Fire got the next round of training after Hotaru, and did extremely well, learning leer in the process of getting to level 20. Jade has evolved and currently stands as my highest-level pokemon at level 27. she also learned Selfdestruct, but seeing as how it's a stupid move that i would never imploy willingly, i got rid of it when she learned Harden. Tamagotchi was the next to get to the goal, reaching level 20 with a bit of difficulty (seeing as how metronome's his only combative move, unless you count the newly-gotten sweet kiss, which causes confusion), but now stands there just fine. i doubt Tama will be used for more than support, though, at least until he learns double-edge at level 38. considering Tama's difficulties in training, he often received support from Lemongrass, who was the next to hit 20 (21 actually). in the process, Lemongrass also evolved into a Skiploom, and learned tackle, poison powder, stun spore, and sleep powder (current lineup of moves is poison powder, synthesis, sleep powder, and tackle).
today i intend to draw. tomorrow, training may resume.
(the middle picture, doesn't it look like the sprite is a tokusatsu hero? GO GO POWER TRAINER)
So, I beat Misty without too much difficulty; all she was able to use against Cactaur was Tackle, which made it easier on me.
Sadly, Dood was lost when I began some post-gym training before heading south to Vermillion City ;_;
But, Monty evolved into a Raticate, so I guess the sadness balances out with badass-ness
-Current party-
Highwind: Lv19 Spearow
Eggie: Lv19 Jigglypuff
Blackjack: Lv19 Pidgeotto
BaconDick: Lv19 Butterfree
Agumon: Lv19 Charmander
Monty: Lv20 Raticate
-On the bench-
Cactaur: Lv20 Bellsprout
-The graveyard-
Raichu: Lv6 Sandshrew
Dood: Lv15 Geodude
EDIT: Check out my time 8)
all's well. -w-
So apparently I HAVE to go deal with fucking Lugia before they'll let me run off to the League.
WHAT THE FUCK, HONESTLY. I'VE HAD IT WITH THESE DAMN LEGENDARIES ALREADY
just yesterday you were praising them in your party. :\
look on the bright side, lugia is a great asset and aeroblast isn't a move to sniff at. -w-
Entei and Raikou were caught by me after painstakingly stalking them all across Johto, planning for two hours and training Misdreavus for three, then spending another hour chasing them to routes I hadn't caught anything at yet and there FINALLY getting the drop on them. That was an EFFORT, and I succeeded.
Lugia, on the other hand, is just railroaded into my face. "HURR YOU MUST CATCH THIS LEGENDARY BEFORE ADVANCING FURTHER INTO THE PLOT KTHX" - and they're not even decent enough to give it a viable catch rate, either! Hell no! It's 5, just as low as any other fucking overpowered uber! FUCK THIS SHIT. No, thanks, I think I'll just mash her head and be done with it, honestly. _-_
That's why I preferred the way Lugia was handled in the original Gold\Silver. You don't have to in order to continue the plot; it's more of a side-quest than anything
@nej: catch and store? it could be part of the plot later. >>;
@pent: that's what i think all legendaries should be, honestly, side-quests more than anything. sure, they can be interweaved into the plot, but to have them be the main focus of the game detracts from what IS the main focus of the game. >>;
Well, IMO that varies depending on how it's handled, honestly. For example...
Suicune in the original Crystal was pretty much ONE OF the main foci of the game. However, it wasn't any big railroading shit going on with it, and the plot was seamlessly woven in with the rest of things as well.
Kyogre/Groudon/Rayquaza in RSE were, in effect, the main focuses of their respective plotlines - and set the example of later ones as well. Not nearly as well-done as Crystal, of course, but Emerald and its two opposing teams, none of which were obviously "the good guys" like in RS (where one was the evil team and the other was just trying to stop them), came close.
Black/White were this as well, and there was a good amount of that stuff going on in Diamond/Pearl too. Platinum gets special mention, however - while you DID get railroaded into catching one of the legendaries available in that game, it was the penultimate climax of a looong story arc, right after you defeat the big bad, AND it had you navigating a twisted dimension-defying gravity freak maze to get there, which was damn well the first time I've honestly been wowed by a Pokémon game since Crystal. In general, the "Special editions" of each generations are by far the best ones imo - Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum. I really hope for a gen3 remake soon, because that shit has potential in it.
Agreed. Platinum was fucking sweet; especially the Distortion World
i think it has to do with the baseline already being established, meaning that for the special editions they can embellish it with all sorts of details. for example, crystal was the first one to include a female trainer, animated pokemon, and the Battle Tower.
Indeed. Just makes me wish they'd put that much effort into a plot line from the beginning, though...
It might be too much to wish for, but I really want pokemon to "grow up" at some point. :/
considering the recent entries into the franchise, i'd say that's not going to happen before the whole thing withers away. :\
this was never discussed, but what do we do about the pokemon available for trade in towns? and what about the bug catching contest?
unrelated: there's a pokemon app for iphones/ipads/etc now. you have to pay for it, and it only comes with the Unova pokedex from the get-go; you have to pay more for the other regions than you did for the app. overall i'd call this a no-go. >:\
Indeed, when you can just get online and bring up Bulbapedia :\
damn straight. :\
indeed... I'd rather use the THOUSAND pokemon info sites for fre than to pay for the apppppp
I use Serebii.net personally, I find it more easily navigable on most subjects within a specific game. Bulbapedia is good for specific in-depth things like explanations on Breeding mechanics and the like, though.
Personally, I'm treating ingame trades as no-go. Besides, they're all pretty useless as far as pokemon go anyway, so why bother - this guy in Blackthorn wants to trade his Dodrio...FOR A DRAGONAIR. ARE YOU BROKEN OR SOMETHING?
The Bug-catching contest...I treat that as a separate area of its own, honestly, split into two parts. You need to catch the first pokemon you find in there, UNLESS you're in a contest; if you're in a contest, you can ignore Nuzlocke rules and play it as usual to catch the strongest bug you can and win the contest, AS LONG AS YOU RELEASE IT AFTERWARD. I use the contest as a way to farm Evolutionary stones, not to get bug pokémon.
I also utilize what I refer to as the Tentacruel Clause. It's essentially an extension of the No Dubs rule; while No Dubs does not count upward in the evolution tree, the Tentacruel Clause counts downward. The name comes from its most common application in my case - namely, having caught a Tentacruel allows you to skip catching a Tentacool. Much like the No Dubs rule, it is to promote diversity in your teams.
if that's the case, i'ma just wait till the contest is on to catch something there and get the most badassery one i can find. SCYTHER? I THINK SO
if all else fails, it'll just be banished to the back of the box, never to be used towards any nuzlocke. (not that this'll come up for awhile, i haven't even beaten bugsy yet due to MASS TRAINING.)
is seribii really better? i've been using bulbapedia this whole time. :0
I used to use Serebii, but I found Bulbapedia was more convenient; in that, if I want to know the attack power of Mega Punch over Pound, I just search them and have detailed info instantly, or reliable in-game maps of areas, etc.
the detail can sometimes be confusing, but i'd rather have too much than too little. :\
Bulbapedia's wiki format makes it easy when you know what you're looking for, but Serebii is better when you don't.
ahh, okay. i'll stick with it then since i usually look for targeted things.
any updates, people? :3
Well, I got an LOL from this trainer:
Then, I began my trek toward Vermillion City. Highwind was nearly killed by a rather mean Butterfree, but pulled through in the end
and evolved into a Fearow >:3
Also, Blackjack hit level 20, I obtained a bicycle, and caught a Meowth on route 5 (Which I named Nyantaro; as a reference to Softenni >w>). Now, to do some training to get everyone else up to level 20, and then it's time to board the SS Anne
EDIT: I went into Diglet Cave, and caught myself a Diglet (Named Leona. Yes, another Softenni reference); which will help me out with the next Gym :3
nice, dude. i like having several different types, so in this case Leona will be a major asset. nyantaro will also make training kick that much more ass. -w-
as for that trainer, it reminds me of a former friend who got mad at me because i didn't like her boyfriend. i told her that i found it sad how she based so much of her life around him, and she stopped talking to me. good riddance, as far as i'm concerned. :\
Indeed. Having multiple types is always nice
So, I just defeated Lt. Surge. I'll let this image speak for itself
Now, to do some training, obtain Flash, and crawl through the Rock Tunnel
EDIT: Caught myself a Drowzee (Named it Osaka, after the character from Azumanga Daioh -w-). Now, to train her and then head into the Rock Tunnel
Well, I'm way behind in my regular game and I'm glad I switched to Regular... If I had tried nuzzlocke I'd have ti restart... I went to town 2 where the bitch bugsy Floored me with that Motherfucking scyther, but in the second attempt I went smart and creamed hir...
here's my After Gym party:
it's implied that I'm not renaming the cokemonz
So, I'm making my way to the Rock Tunnel...and BaconDick bit the dust along the way ;_;
However, a new member rises to take his place: Dr. Insano, the Voltorb. Now, to get everyone on equal footing and then enter the Rock Tunnel
-Current party-
Dr. Insano: Lv16 Voltorb
Cactaur: Lv22 Bellsprout
Blackjack: Lv22 Pidgeotto
Highwind: Lv22 Spearow
Monty: Lv20 Raticate
Agumon: Lv23 Charmander
-On the bench-
Leona: Lv23 Diglett
Nyantaro: Lv23 Meowth
Osaka: Lv23 Drowzee
Eggie: Lv24 Jigglypuff
-The graveyard-
Raichu: Lv6 Sandshrew
Dood: Lv15 Geodude
BaconDick: Lv22 Butterfree
NOOO! Baconcock nooo!!!
Indeed :[
So, question for whenever Nej posts in here again. With "different areas", do different floors count as different areas?
Like, if I catch a Zubat on the first floor of the Rock Tunnel, will I be able to catch something again on the second floor, or will it still count as one area regardless of floor, even if encounter rates are different between them?
Speaking of, I caught a Zubat...and then a Spearow decimated it as soon as I started to try and level it up :\
Different areas are just that - different areas. A route is an area, a cave is an area, et cetera. If you want something in a cave only available on a certain floor you had best stock up on repels, and hope your luck holds.
So in short - no, they do not count.
Alright
So, now I venture through the Rock Tunnel. I can see my way thanks to
FLASH! Ahh~ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pv7HNAtCH74)
(Yes, I had to make a Queen reference somewhere >w>; )
On the way, I ran into this guy; who asked if I knew what cosplay was
Of course I do (After all, half-assed Lass crossplay a few years back >w>;; )
Unlike my usual "fight everyone and everything, find all items" strategy, I took the "get the hell out of there as fast as possible" strategy; using some maps to navigate my way through the twisting maze. This is probably my least favorite part of Kanto; the one place I avoid going back to
Okay, here's a little something you might have missed if you haven't played B2W2:
WILD. EEVEES.
An unlimited supply of Glaceons, everywhere.
wait... what? :o
Castelia City Park. Wild Eevees.
I've caught 2 so far and I'm getting my 3rd right now. :D
I gotta check that out now
FOUR EEVEES IN MY PARTY
GET ON MY LEVEL
I have one perfect Glaceon candidate, and another who's likely going to become a Leafeon. Not sure about the two others though, but I'm leaning towards Flareon for one, and the second might be a decent Umbreon (it's the same setup as the Leafeon one, but I don't want to have dubs).
EDIT: FULL EEVEE TEAM IS NOW GET
Sweet. I just got an Eevee, myself; from the Celadon Mansion -w-
WHEN SUDDENLY OUT OF NOWHERE, SHINY JOLTIK
I have 2 shinies on my W2 team now. WHAT ZE FUCK ES GOING ON HAR?
Is anyone else still doing their Nuzlocke run?
I just reached Fuchsia City in mine. About to go to the Safari Zone and suddenly have 30 Tauros because 4Kids skipped an episode try to find a Dratini or other cool and unusual Pokémon. Then, I fight Koga.
Although I have not tried this my self, it's interesting to see what teams you guys can come up with.
To those who don't know, a Nuzlocke is basically a fan-made Expert Mode. Go to page 1 for information, or look it up on Google.
An Egg Run is sort of like a Giant Gamble. You never know what you're going to get...
An Egglocke is a fan-made True Master/Super Hell Mode. God have mercy on your soul, if you plan on doing this run...
Spence, you don't have to explain everything, odds are they already know.
Especially since most of the people who post here have done it.
Of course I failed and gave up but that's not the point.
Well, I just wanted the minority to know what the heck we're talking about.
The minority wouldn't read this thread in the first place...
there is no minority here. and even then, everything is explained on the first page. :\
I am starting nuzlocke on fire red and only using 1 type, may have to bend some rules
tbh nuzlocke covers a wide range of rules, and i think the idea behind it was that you should use what fits your nuzlocke best. maybe i'm misinterpreting it a bit, but hey, we can't stop you.
also, go introduce yourself over in the member introductions (http://ostan-collections.net/forum/index.php/topic,125.4605.html) thread. -w-

I thought you were a spambot at first because you have an unusual name.
Not really unusual; just a character from Lord of the Rings (Well, the Hobbit. Set in the same universe, at least)
I need to get back to my Nuzlocke run, to be honest ^^;
Not really a revive but here.
>mega evolve
Saged, reported, called the cops.
Seriously though I've picked up my Sacred Gold run somewhere. Good gods that hack is so much harder, but man it feels good to beat things now.
good on ya, mashtur. -w-
