Title: non-existant computers
Post by: Chocofreak13 on January 12, 2009, 06:13:34 PM
ik that the concept of an altimit-tan was spoken of in another thread.

but since no one's gotten around to it, i have the urge to come up with one.

and for anyone who's played the .hack// games (the quartet) what about a starchild-tan?

and all the "supercomputers" from various sources over the years? lyoko-tan??

hmm, just something to chew on, i guess.

Fairly sure these "fictional computers" don't have representation, nor any real place in the fauna, so to say.

Yet there is a (or should I say many) GlaDOS-tan(s)!

Indeed, but then again most things that become extensively popular tend to generate various spin-off designs. I can't think of any other FC -tan.

Aha, no problem. Shockingly enough I've only played the demo, it seems my Linux-tan can't handle Portal without freezing WINE...

I've considered drawing some fictional OS-tans before... but... never really got around to it. ^^

i claim altimit..... >_>

lol, since they technincally ARE computers, why not?

........can i have lyoko tan too? :3 (i'm sick, pity me!! xD)

Was the supercomputer really called Lyoko? I know the digital world was.  I kind of thought that Aelita would count as Lyoko-tan.  What about -tans for Rockman.EXE computers? (Gah, the vs. 100 Peter Griffin Torso-bots challenge in EXE 5 is annoying.)

Are there -tans for the Pokémon Storage System?

There aren't any fictional computer-tans (except for GlaDOS-tan) as far I have seen and I have lurked on the net characters imageboard a lot! I think all the fictional computer-tans are fair game!

I would assume that anything related to computers is fair game to  make a tan for...

Post by: Chocofreak13 on January 17, 2009, 10:38:10 AM
tee hee.

alex: idk what the supercomputer was called, they always called it "the supercomputer" either that or it would be xana-tan, (that's the most likely one) since xana TECHNICALLY WAS the computer.
ps, alex!!! we finally hit win. 95 status! we have bars! we made it!!! <D

idk about the poke storage system. go ahead. (if i was gonna do it, the first thing that popped into my head was a robotic nurse joy! xD)

smokey-san:then why don't people start making -tans for computer components themselves? ik i've seen a set of dualcore-tans (a very cute set of blonde twins)
a SODIMM-tan........pfft lol probably an airheaded bimbo (get it?)
Title: non-existant computers

hehe, in my case it's my ab-so-lute lack of drawing skills preventing the creation of a tan for every component in my system...

LOL, SLI-Tan ; a siamese twin?...

I'm surprised nobody's made any mention here about a HAL-tan (and much LESS surprised about no mention here about a SAL-tan -- SAL 9000 is a ground-based sister computer to the HAL 9000 system, for those who don't know), and darned curious if anyone would be making a -tan for that one boss from Kirby (the one that looked like an RPG).

Of course, due to my extreme lack of talent when it comes to drawing, I'm probably not going to be able to do anything to rectify any lack of these . . . *sobs* I SUCK AT DRAWING THE HUMAN FIGURE.

Draw a HAL 9000-tan? I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't let you draw that! j/k!

But if drawing is not your specialty, maybe you can still contribute ideas for a character's details, personality, etc?
Title: non-existant computers
Post by: Alex S on January 17, 2009, 09:42:28 PM
Actually, I'd rather a HAL-kun was drawn, lest there be mind-scarring consequences.  And XANA-tan? Bad idea. Draw XANA-kun instead.

And, to Blear, I can't draw people very well either, but I can draw inanimate objects. Look at the Calculator-tans thread for some of my sketches.

And, just saying, it's kind of annoying to me when people don't capitalize, use apostrophes, or otherwise violate grammar.

In the words of Strong Bad: "Whatever happened to capitalization? It used to be so cool."

Also, on the topic of Strong Bad, Lappy-tan, Compy-tan and Tandy-tan should be drawn. Being beige boxes, not very many options for design ideas, but personalities should be easier.

I keep thinking of the Hardware Abstraction Layer in Windows...

I remember HAL9000 to be a childish F***ing B*a***...
Title: non-existant computers
Post by: NejinOniwa on January 18, 2009, 04:23:43 PM
B*a***? I think someone censored in the wrong direction, here >_>

But I dunno about that, I've never read the book, seen the movie or whatever, I just know stuff. But it's possible, I guess, although further factcheck wouldn't hurt if you were to personificate it.
Title: non-existant computers
Post by: Smokey on January 18, 2009, 05:21:01 PM
Oh it's not up to me to personify the HAL...
The only fact i know absolutely sure is that it had one huge red eye, so maybe making her a cyclops...
I'm thinking Torunga Leela from Futurama here, so don't mind me...
Title: non-existant computers
Post by: Alex S on January 18, 2009, 05:29:56 PM
Once again, I've always thought of the HAL 9000 as male. Didn't it have a male voice? So, HAL-kun, maybe?

actually yeah xana-kun sounds better.......and we don't have enough boys as it is. :/
altimit would be a girl though.

ARRGH YOU PEOPLE HURTZ MINE BRAIN ;_; go ahead with your talking, i will be in the corner crashing quietly me-tan style. (actually, "quiet" isn't the best way to describe me's crashes.....0_0; )

we should get on it.

bob, the only way you'll get better is to practice. :3 i did, and i must admit i've improved greatly from my early work. xD (some of my early work scares me a little now.....xD )

hal-9000 or GlaDOS. I know ive seend GlaDOS pics before, but nearly all the ones ive seen have just been random animu girls with cores bolted to her in one way or another... not very creative.

I don't like those "Mecha Musume"-inspired GlaDOS-tan designs either T_T (and I can't think of a good one myself).

But I am currently working on a chibi HAL 9000-tan. She'll have short hair, an eye patch, her visible eye glowing red+yellow and wear a black+silver bodysuit.

you mean like ME?

i agree though, i don't like the current glaDOS tan either.  too mech. (i like the eye colour though.)
eh, when i get around to it, i'll upload the tans i've made. (that means all, not just the non-existant ones.)

i and ME are alot alike. we try really hard, but always screw up.

speaking fo screw-ups, i have to type like the wind, for i have a storybook due tomorrow. (it involves os-tan, so maybe i'll upload it. xD but that means i have to get around to uploading that comic too....)

to clear the air, nejin, i have no intention of stalking you. i just don't care, you just remind me of people around here. and doctor house. which i'm missing right now. so i should get going.

oh look, i'm off topic again.

another hint for the riddle: the final answer is 2 letters long.

Why isn't there an Analytical engine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analytical_engine)-tan..? How cool would that be, steampunk, victoriana (maybe a maid?) etc ;171 . Not fictional but non-existent (unfortunately). Difference engine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Difference_engine)-tan would be her idiot (not Turing-complete) savant big sister or something...

Had to register just to say this... carry on.

Non-existant =/= fictional (actually, most of the -tans we now deal with are from long-lost systems), this should probably be talked about over in a more appropriate thread.

Always considered making those two, along with Antikythera Mechanism-tan. Just don't know enough about mechanical computers to try my hand at them yet though. -v-

Made a version of Babbage's Ana-tan & Diffie-tan (http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?pos=-8530)... I went for the Victorian thing rather than steampunk, someone with character design and composition skills would probably render them more steampunkish and, well, OS-tanny. If any of you do, please don't let this version restrict you.

Here's the motivation for various stuff: Dif-tan has a crank on top like one of her prototypes, and recites [ed: values of] polynomial functions. She's a bit dim, as mentioned, being non-Turing complete...

Ana-tan's corkscrews are number discs and her bow is made of instruction punch cards. I didn't come up with a good way to indicate how absurdly far ahead of her time she was, maybe the energetic character gives some hint. She was never built, thus no limbs (and I also suck at drawing hands and feet but let's pretend that has nothing to do with it...)

(The Difference Engine wasn't built either (until 2000s) to be exact, so imagine peg legs or something...)

I tried to upload this to vintage gallery but apparently there are some Standards. [ed 20.9.: It got approved... so apparently they have NO STANDARDS  o_o... updated link to point at that.]

That, my boy...is sincerely creepy. I give it to you, for "prehistoric" computers those are pretty well thought out, as is your design. We'll likely continue development on this, but I'll say personally that it's a good startout.

i agree. they're quite beautiful, and your concepts are great. however, wouldn't this post more likely go in the vintage thread? this is a thread about fake computers from movies. tv shows, books, ect.

speaking of which, did we ever talk about a TARDIS-tan?
