I'm not fond of gemstones in general (or rather the idea of spending lots of money on little trinkets), but I can name at least a half-dozen that I kind more interesting-looking than diamond. Heck, garnets, opals and quartz-based jewels are my favorite gemstones - I'd much rather be given one of them than a diamond. -w-

@bella: i prefer coloured gemstones. with that in mind i do like SOME diamonds, such as chocolate diamonds and champagne diamonds, but straight-up diamonds that disappear in water are kinda boring, imo. i don't get why women go gaga over something that looks the same as lead crystal. :\

Not if I don't propose to him with a piece of LINC or AN/FSQ-7 computer first. (After a persistent letter-writing campaign to the CHM or RCSRI to let me have a "spare" piece of one of their computers, that is) >>;;;;

Oh and Kari we're on the same page re: gemstones. I much prefer the colorful jewels to plain white / clear diamonds, even if they're a "lesser" gemstone. I suspect most of the hype surrounding diamond is sue to their status-symbol nature. :/
