also, i thought it was Conquerors of Shylaman. :0 (I WAS JOKING FOR THE RECORD, NO NEED TO CORRECT ME GUYS, DON'T BE A DERP)

Conquerors of Shymanlanadingdong?

Anyway, I know OSC is probably used to my ohgodwhyaresomepeoplesuchbastards indignation by now and you're probably tired of hearing about it, but an article I (rather unwisely) read last night annoyed the hell out of me and I just feel like rambling about it. Basically, a woman wrote an open letter of sorts to her Fundamentalist Christian and Tea-Partier mother explaining why she lost her faith in Christianity, researched many religions in an attempt to find one that fit her spiritually-speaking, and even spent some time as an atheist before discovering Islam through some Muslim friends and deciding that she wanted to pursue that faith. It was a pretty long letter and was obviously quite emotionally-driven, exactly what you would expect of a personal plea for acceptance from a daughter to her disapproving mother. The letter indicated that she is in her 20s, an asexual and a survivor of sexual assault.

Anyway, this letter, originally posted on a personal blog, got picked up by Jezebel.com, which is an *okay* site most of the time (some articles are excellent, most are mediocre, a few are downright awful). The thing is, Jezebel is home to one of the largest hives of sanctimonious pseudo-progressive a-holes this side of /r/atheism, maybe, and even before I got to the comments section I knew there was going to be an absolute shitstorm. The amount of vitriol was appalling, not just insults against her choice of religion but the author herself, calling her self-indulgent, naval-gazing, and shallow among other things, and people suggested that she was just passing through a "phase" and would change religions again soon. (Because apparently if you take a lot of time, research and "try out" different religions before settling on one you're indecisive and incapable of making a sincere choice.) Of course the author's sexuality was dragged into it too, with some people suggesting that an asexual couldn't be "a proper Muslim" because Islam places so much importance on marriage and family, and that maybe she "became asexual" in the first place because she wasn't loved enough by her mother as a kid.

Considering the sheer amount of hostility that Jezebel commenters have exhibited in the past toward religious people (both benevolent AND malevolent religious people), asexuals (cause asexuality is totes slut shaming!!!!!! Everyone should want lots of sex and lots of sexual partners at all times and if you don't you're repressed!!!!!!) and people who choose to adhere to "moral codes" or more traditional lifestyles (be it on religious, cultural or personal grounds), none of this was exactly surprising to me, but it still pissed me off.

Sorry for the rant, I just felt like venting about that. :/

This is why I don't care for religion.

it's all good, bells. given the opportunity i'd like to punch that site in the mouth. >>;;

@pent: get some mint. and some honey. it will help. -w-

@leaf: i sincerly doubt you're the tallest, especially since 1. the topic of height has never come up, so you don't have a basis for comparison, and 2. you didn't list your own height to begin with, meaning you have something to hide, indicating you don't ACTUALLY think you're the tallest.

I cannot stand people unable to deal with length units. For the record, I'm four furlongs and a stone. *corrects glasses*

stewartsage

For the record, I'm about 6'

I'm at that point where there's nothing to do anywhere, yet I still keep going to work to do nothing in a different location and get paid for it.  Yay.

Chocofreak13

@pitkin: my god, you're huge. :0

5' 11" or about 180 cm, here.

Bedlam.

10PM is a time for bedlam. The students of the city open their windows and scream out their anguish. Screams of anguish, however, are pretty tame - mostly because it's not something that people enjoy doing, so they don't put all their force into it, or for that part learn to do it well.

Screams of excitement, however?

Tomorrow is Valborg - or Walpurgisnacht - and Uppsala celebrates this tradition in a rather extended manner.  There are different notions of different days outside the main attraction, of course, but the day before Walpurgis - tonight - is generally acknowledged as "Kvalborg". There are numerous puns based out of this, of course, but when the clock hit 10 PM I was sitting in my room watching Elementary...

And the screams began.
Not scattered showers, like it usually is - when you hear it at all, that is. No, this was a monsoon in comparison to that - it sounded like a distant battlefield, echoing roars and shouts crashing against each other in my ears. It went on for ten minutes before stopping, and I was, I admit, actually starting to feel a bit spooked. Of course, sitting alone in a rather murky room watching a show about a genius solving murder mysteries you'd have to be absolutely paranoid to understand and overthinking EVERYTHING, does get to you. I did, I suppose, bring it upon myself. To some degree, at least.

I needed to vent for a bit. Tomorrow's the night, however, and I'll burn my worries away in the bonfire.
YOU COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS

Sounds rather... deep?

EDIT: Well I thought I should look up the holiday on Wikipedia...
...  kinda reminds me of Chinese New Year, without the animals of course.
