BEUGH.

I hate this.

The original result turned out quite fine, much better than i expected as i, as stated previously, don't have that much confidence or expectations in my skills as an artist. Then I scanned it in, which made it obvious that I had done some serious misses...the biggest one was probably drawing in my old school notebook, on a page with text on the other side. So what picture i have now is slightly invaded by mirror images of text...
Oh well. I did take away as much as i could using GIMP, and although I'm not skilled at all using image editors, i did at least get a result that was better than the image i started with (although not better than the paper original, mind you.) So here she is... DC-Tan!!! ^-^ ;019 ;019 ;019

(Please don't laugh at me)

Now to list a couple of things i think i did wrong...
1. I did not draw on a clear paper.
2. I miserably failed depicting any kind of feminine features.
3. The drawing itself is relatively crappy, and very crappily edited.

But whatever, off from the state of pessimism now, and let's do some update on her data!

DC-tan

Age: 13
Hair: Grey/White, slightly more than shoulder length
Eye color: One green, one blue-ish. (see below)
Nationality: Swedish, for some oddball reason.
Clothing: She wears either knee-length skirts or puffy pants in black/white, a sky-blue vest featuring the "download" and "upload" icons in green and red, a silver chain round her neck, a pirate hat with a large DC++ icon on the front and a disturbingly black eye-patch.
Powers and the like: She has the ability to "skate" on blades of wind, allowing her to cover great distances very fast. She is a master gunman and usually carries around two 18:th century style ornate pistols by her waist. Also, below her eye-patch is her second eye, which is shifting in blue and silver circles, which can see incredible distances as well as through most walls. And other people's clothing.
Personality: She is slightly anti-social, quite shy and not very friendly against others, and seems to have a grudge against almost all the OS-tans. She also at times show signs of self-hate of some degree. Normally, she has a very sarcastic attitude and likes to make fun of people, but is a hard worker when she gets to it. When removing her eye-patch though, she loses all trace of personality and becomes completely emotionless.

As a last note, I'd like to say that if anyone could do a proper edit and/or color of this one, I'd be REALLY happy. My msn is in my profile in that case.

Hope you like this!

QuoteI don't have that much confidence or expectations in my skills as an artist.

You should fix that, your art is great! It's people like you that make this phenomena possible!

Quote1. I did not draw on a clear paper.

Don't worry, everyone makes mistakes!

Quote2. I miserably failed depicting any kind of feminine features.

You did give her a necklace! ^-^

Quote3. The drawing itself is relatively crappy, and very crappily edited.

No, not really. Aside from the mirror text, it's rather clean. Good job!

QuoteAs a last note, I'd like to say that if anyone could do a proper edit and/or color of this one, I'd be REALLY happy.

That would be really neat!

Anyway, I think you did a great job NejinOniwa-sama

Aurora Borealis

Goog job on DC++-tan! But what exactly is DC++ though? But she's cool though!

1. She's a pirate!
2. Old-school fashion!
3. Good at wielding guns
4. And she's cynical and sarcastic!
5. I can kinda relate to her personality

Plus the quirk of her personality changing with the prescence or abscence of her eyepatch is interesting too!

Please stop! I will die from excessive blushing if you continue praising me!!!

*tears of joy* ^-^

Thank you guys...Maybe I'll give it another shot tomorrow, with these differences:
Clear paper!
Larger paper!
Full-body image!
Aaand hopefully some better editing and better drawing. Desu-nyo! ^-^

And Aurora Borealis-san, DC++ is, as you could have guessed from her outfit, a p2p client using the Direct Connect network. It currently has the largest amount of shared files of all such networks (BT not included since it's not that kind of network and seriously fucking HUGE to boot), somewhere around a few Exabytes. An exabyte, fyi, is 10^18 b, or 1 000 000 000 gigabytes.
Really fucking much, in short.

Don't die! then you won't be able to make any more awe-inspiring artwork!

QuoteMaybe I'll give it another shot tomorrow

I can't wait to see it ^^;

QuoteAn exabyte, fyi, is 10^18 b, or 1 000 000 000 gigabytes.

2^60 is a more accurate form, but for all practical purposes, it is one quintillion bytes.

QuoteReally [Fetching] much, in short.

Just my personal preference, but if you wouldn't mind, I really dislike Profanity.

(Sorry for the horrendous censoring, I don't exactly know of many "Replacement" words)

Well, if I haven't already offended you, this next item probably will. I apologize in advance. I took the liberty of "cleaning" your drawing (or at least trying). Obviously, my skills are lacking, but the words are a little less noticeable. In keeping with forum rules, it's in the attachment.

Sorry again, for anything stupid I've said or done.

Yo Nejin.... -v-

Well I have to hand it to you that was a quick turnaround on that DC-tan sketch, and I definitely love the enthusiasm I'm seeing in the fact that you're drawing.
It feels great, no?  ^__^

I'll see what you cook up tomorrow, cause now that you have a good preconcept set in place, you can only go uphill from here.  -v-

The only thing that concerns me, however, is that before you were asking if someone could edit and color the picture for you.  Maybe that was before you got psyched to try again, but if that's still the case, is it because you're not sure how to do it, or just don't have the time to.  And if the former, would you be interested in learning how to do that?   ^^

Right.. I need Ideas for XPS tan.  Im gonna draw her later but ideas would be appriciated.  The computer itself was once the top of the line manufactured laptop on the market (cant say I know much about the tower version tho)
http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m1710?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
usefull little flash for you all to take a look at her as a computer.  Very nice flash I might say as well.  Right then.. over view.. shes a gaming machine.. highly tech, top of the line, and pimped out. Shes got running lights for cripes sake.  Wide screen true color display, all the latest goodies and durrable as all hell.

My ideas for this then are:
mecha girl.. something like KOS-MOS. A girl with fancy looking cutting edge armor bits but still scantly clad, because she is high tech and advanced and cares about her style. She wants to look good, and her look pleases gamers (who normaly like scantly clad big brested girls)  her chest would be pretty big.. she is a monster of a machine specs wise.  I definitly think shes gonna be along the lines of KOS-MOS or chachamaru. Also her body armor bits will have lit color sections that glow on her (kinda like the glowy bits on the gears of war armor sets)  for her running lights. XPS M1710 will be senciled on her armor to show her model number and emphisize that she is a cyborg type girl.  I imagin she would be armed for her love of the fancy high end games that are normaly shooters of some kind. Halflife 2 showcases very well on her. Or FEAR.. hell after dell bought alienware all of the alienware laptops found thoughout the game were replaced with the Dell XPS 1710 because hardware wise, it was practicly made for the game. Her friends would be XP and Vista mostly.. she dosent really understand the other girls.  Probobly hangs out with 360 tan as well but only when XP or Vista is around.. kinda a friend of a friend sort of thing.

Wait a sec, didn't I recommend KOS-MOS before on this one months ago, and you shot the idea down for X and Y reason?

Either it's a change of heart or my memory's bugging out, but I always said that thing looks like a red KOSMOS.  Or an airport runway control specialist....  -v-

(the red lights again...)

Is there a Hurd-tan? I would like to see her as gnugirl who juggles a lot of different objects, cones, torches, globes, harddisks... her hair is grey (She's nearly as old as DOS-tan) but at the same time, she looks young (as she still is not 1.0 yet). She wears typical hacker clothes, ie, they are dark and appear as if she decided to choose her clothes by clicking on the random-button of the closet.

More progress on DC-tan!
I was able to do another rendition, much better than yesterday's.
So did i manage to complete some of the tasks i set before myself last time, then? Lessee...

Clear paper? Yes. I'm not prone to making THAT mistake twice
Larger paper? No, since it's a bother to come by and even so impossible to scan in the whole of it since my scanner is not very overkill in size (Maximally takes A4)
Full-body image? Well, at least more. I stopped halfway through her skirt, since I suck at drawing legs and also there wasn't any space left on the paper, so at least it's more than yesterday's upper-body one.
Better drawing? DEFINIFUCKINGTIVELY yes. It may still not be anything to compare with things that I see people around me do (and the miserable failure of depicting any kind of feminine attributes is still de facto) , but it's at least very much better than i've done in the past. I used this pic of 95-sama as inspiration and reference for the artwork, as well as of course my old pic for details and so. I was thinking about adding a tree in the background, since it seems like she's leaning against something, but against all odds the bottom of the paper got a rip when I removed it from the scanner, so I decided to leave it as it is. Also, after many miserable failures at rendering her hands and stuff I decided to screw that part and shoved them up behind her back.
Better edit? Nothing so far, and thus I won't be posting anything right now either. I probably won't be able to post anything at all until late tomorrow evening, since I'll be spending most of the day racing down a sunny mountainside covered in snow on my brand-new Atomics. Then again I probably won't have to do as much editing as on yesterday's pic, so it might not take that much time.

So that's it. I'll do what edit I can before I sleep...the rest will be done tomorrow. Luckily though I've got a heavily extended weekend since my school decided to have some downtime until Thursday, so I'll be having plenty of time of improving my skills and drawing more DC-tan images.

C-Chan, the coloring thing is probably both. I don't have the skills to do it, nor the time to neither learn nor do the actual coloring of the sketches. No, until the happy day when i actually is able of doing anything that doesn't look like crap with my own hands, I'll leave the coloring business to those who know the arts of the trade. I guess I AM slightly interested though...the possibility of that interest being piqued by more sketching and greater need for coloring is not that diminutive.

And C-Chan, personally I think that I'm very slow at drawing stuff... -_-'

I thought you asked that last time before you disappeared.  ^^;

Still no Hurd-tan, so I'd say she's on the market if you'd like to draw her.  -v-

*sigh*  Oh well, at least you say you'd sort of be willing to learn one day once you have more time and you've built up your morale with more sketches.  The problem with leaving it to other people is that, a) they may not be compelled to do it very quickly, and b) they might not draw it to your specifications, based on whatever you have in your imagination.  So the sooner you pick up those particular skills, the better it will be for you to be the master of your own destiny (so to speak).  -v-

BTW, which 95-tan pic inspired ya, if you don't mind me asking?  ^^

Hoo-boy! Do I know the feeling...  ^____^;

.....Huh?  Wazzat?  '__';

...

In any case, speaking of the Captain, I'm pretty sure he'll think the end is neigh after I say this....

But just yesterday, having nothing better to do or read on my commute, I decided to *gasp* SKETCH for the very first time in years.

And I'm not talking vector sketching, but actual real pen and paper (more like my daily planner) doodling!  @__@

Started first with a page full of eyes, which are now pretty much on the ball for me, and then tried my hand on a preconcept sketch of my FreeBSD-tan rendition.  ["Elda-sized"... ^^']

Eyes were okay, but naturally I was sucking at first with FreeBSD-tan's head due to my unsteady hand.
However,... perhaps it's because I've been drawing with vectors for almost the entire year,... but when I switched to PLOTTING points on the paper first, and then drawing the lines along said points,... EUREKA!!!

It starts to look halfway decent!  ^__^

Figures my mind is now stuck thinking in curves and anchors now, just like how I can't visualize well without color....  -.-

EGADS!!!

You know what, C-Chan? Coloring isn't as hard as i thought it was, you just need to try a bit. As for the edited DC-tan pic I said I'd upload yesterday, it's been postponed. Reason? Well, I just figured it'd be unnecessary to post a half-edited sketch when you're gonna put up a colored one later. Ehehe...Excessive smudge ftw.

Fan-tas-tic.  ^___^
Now I'm uber-happy to hear that!  ^v^

As long as you maintain yourself goal-oriented, there should be no such thing as an impossible drawing task.  Simply come up with something you want to draw, research or practice ways to achieve the kind of drawing you want, then just draw it.  You can always go back and fix anything that doesn't meet your criteria,... that's one very good benefit of digital art, though not to say there aren't ways to correct your work on print.  -v-
