16,000 ton bulk carriers converted to cement storage facilities!

Red-Machine

Ah, a storage hulk!  The Royal Navy used to do that all the time.

US Navy did too, all of it's ships-of-the-line eventually ended up as receiving/stores ships.  The Pennsylvania was hard aground on it's own garbage by 1861.

The J.B. Ford in the early 70's on the Maumee River.  As of 2011 she's 107 years old and still afloat as a cement barge.

The E.M. Ford.  In revenue service from 1898-1996 she was afloat in ordinary until 2008 when she was cut up for scrap.

The oldest ship currently afloat and in revenue service is the St. Mary's Challenger, built in 1906.

All three are self-unloading cement carriers.
